The Benefits of Buying Local
In working to feed our families real food, one of the most challenging parts can be knowing what foods to buy and how to wade through all the different labels and understand exactly what they mean! For me, this is one of the most important reasons to shop locally whenever I can! Not only can I put my money back into my own community and get better quality food, but I can go straight to the producer to ask questions to know exactly what I am putting on my table. In this video we interviewed Mendy, one of our favorite local producers to learn some of her thoughts on the benefits of shopping locally!

How you clean them from outside the shel
I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking how I wash the outside of my eggs? If it is that, I just use dish soap and water to clean them off.
Excellent video by the way! Love the way you edit and very informative
Thank you!!
I did keto for 4 weeks due to IMO, bloating almost gone immediately ❤ now I am trying sugar free and grain free!
Can it reverse cavities
Great question! I have not personally witnessed it reversing cavities but feel it has made a huge difference for us in preventing them. There are resources that talk about reversing cavities and that a remineralizing toothpaste like this could be helpful with that, I just haven't personally seen it do that. I really like the book Reversing Tooth Decay as it has some great info on that topic.
I was looking for how to use mountain rose herbs hair color! Thank you!
Thank you for watching! Mountain Rose Herbs has so many great products!!
I was googling yoghurt making and your video popped up. I have a crockpot too. I like how l dont have to buy an instant pot to do your recipe. Have you ever left the yoghurt to set for more than 24hrs? Will the level of probiotic properties become even more beneficial if it's left to set for more than 8-12 hours do you think? If so will it fail to increase the levels of probiotcs if l did let it go for 24-36 hours? I have a lactose free yoghurt to start mine and lactose free milk ready to make it. I have chosen lactose free as l am on a meat/fat diet where milk is never consumed. I will do it your way in the crockpot as you have shown. Thank you for not overcomplicating how you do things in the kitchen.
Hello! Thank you for watching! I personally have never left it longer than about 12 hours. I have read that a longer culture time can increase the probiotics, but you also want to be careful about leaving it too long as it can cause problems as well. If the bacteria runs out of sugars to eat when left out too long, it can have the opposite effect and kill off the good bacteria. It can also significantly change the flavor of the yogurt making it a lot more sour which means you might have to add more sugar to make it palatable especially if serving to children or someone who wouldn't like the flavor. I hope that helps!
Thanks so much! You know your yoghurt! Tangy yoghurt doesn't sound too awful for me so I will try your method for 36hrs & see. Can l ask if you've tried to make L Reuteri style as well?
@@sofiamiliaressis5403You are welcome! I have not tried L Reuteri style.
I love this !! Just decided to switch to a gf lifestyle and will definitely save these recipes. Thank you so much! 😊

Is grain free diet applicable for a underweight person ?
Hello! This is a great question! I would think it would be fine especially since a grain-free diet is more of a healthier eating lifestyle rather than a diet to make you lose weight. It can lead to weight loss in those that may need it since it helps to give the body more real food, promote healthier digestion and support against inflammation and balanced blood sugar. It's goal though is to help the body be healthier, balanced and nourished so I would think it would be fine! I would just make sure to get healthy, well-rounded portions including healthy fats and proteins and of course, if there is an underlying health issue to being underweight, they may want to consult their practitioner. I hope that helps! Thank you!
Do look good
I will give this a try, I’d be tempted to put a dash of himalayan or Celtic salt and xylitol for sweetness 👌
God bless you for this video. What about buckwheat is that not considered a grain?
Buckwheat is actually taken from the seeds and is considered a fruit and not a grain. Some people on a grain-free diet still avoid it because it can contribute to inflammation in some people, but some don't have a problem with it. It can also sometimes be cross contaminated with gluten products so is sometimes avoided on a gluten free diet as well. We have tried it, and it didn't seem to bother our crew and made a really nice hot cereal for breakfast! It is definitely not considered a grain though so is one of those foods that is good to look at individually.
@@chicorygirlwellness All grains are fruits. Not all fruits are grains. What you eat in wheat and rice are also seeds, (and fruit). The literal definition of "grain" is "A small, dry, one seeded fruit of Cereal grass". The reason Buckwheat is not considered a grain, is because it is a Dicotyledon, and not a monocotyledon. In other words, Buckwheat is not a grass. Cereal grains are grasses. If you don't even know that basic fact, I wonder what else you got wrong.
Buckwheat is not a Grass. Grains come from Grasses.

I wonder, can i just use a dehydrator to make the granola?
I would think a dehydrator would work great! I don't have one, so used my oven instead. It is one of those kitchen wish list items for me! :) But since you are drying it rather than baking it, I would think that would be perfect!
@@chicorygirlwellness your fantastic food processor is on my wish list!! Lol! I'll have to report back. And in all fairness, I'll be borrowing my parents! Lol! So I don't have either of those things!

Which magnesium supplement do you recommend? Thanks!
Hello! There are multiple different varieties of magnesium, and they can all help support healthy cholesterol but can then target other things as well. I personally use either magnesium l-threonate or magnesium glycinate. Glycinate is a great option as it is one that is more easily absorbed then some of the others. The brands that I have used and liked depended on the variety you choose. For the threonate, I like the Dr. Mercola brand. For the glycinate, I just tried the Dr. Eric Berg brand and like it. Carlson also has that variety and while I haven't tried theirs, they generally seem to have good quality supplements. I hope that helps!
How can I do this with coconut cream?
That is a great question! I would wonder if it would work the same way just using coconut milk and a coconut yogurt starter, but I honestly have not tried it. I might have to now! Sorry, I can't help more with this question!
Wow. Very interesting. I have a few mammoth sunflowers. One of the stalks is around 8 inches in diameter. I will try to make the flour out of it. I wasn’t aware of the tea either. Good info. Thanks!
Thank you! I hope your flour making goes well!
Intact whole grains do not have the problems you listed. Why not just stop eating refined grains and flour based products? I don’t think the problem was that you put some wheat berries in your sallad, had some steel cut oats for breakfast or some brown rice with your beans.
For us, it definitely was one of the problems. We were already eating whole grains and avoiding all refined flours and still facing the struggles I mentioned in the video. If you eat whole grains and have no problem with them, I think that is great! However, science has pointed to the possibility of those issues being linked with grains in general and for a lot of people getting off grains has brought a lot of relief.
She doesn't even know what a grain is. So there is that.
@@shakeyj4523 Quit being a troll loser.
Thank you for your videos. I know they take considerable time and effort to make, and I appreciate your work!
Thank you so much!!
Does it means no rice, bread, pasta at all?
Essentially it means avoiding anything that includes wheat, oats, corn and rice so, yes. However, I have noticed that some people include things in a grain-free diet that other people don't and there are some really great ways to replace those things! We avoided all of those things except for some pasta replacers. Some people still include rice because they don't feel it bothers them. A lot of people also avoid legumes, but we do still eat dried beans including using chickpea pasta. I actually just put up another video as a follow up on the differences between grain-free and gluten-free and it has some great replacement suggestions and examples of what you can eat. It might help give you some more ideas on how you can replace those items!
Such great ideas!
Thank you!

Wondering if it would be worth importing grains form Europe or other areas, who tend to be more careful about these things than the US?
That is a really good question! I have wondered this myself since I have heard they process their grains so much differently than the US does. I have not researched that thoroughly but would probably be something worth looking into!
Many people benefit from going grain-free here in Europe, too. Not sure if it's worth the trouble.
Awesome video, thanks

Hi! Do you know the nutritions in sunflower stalk flour contain??? Thank you!
Hello! From what I have read some of the nutrients they contain include protein, a tiny amount of fat, calcium, phosphorus and carbohydrates.
@@chicorygirlwellness Thank you!

It's the starch my dear. By cutting out the grains you've eliminated a huge amount of starch. Remove the taters ... sweet corn... starchy veggies and legumes. You will feel like a race horse.
I've been grain free for six weeks - it's been amazing, my body is a whole new body - my digestion is 'quiet' and I have no pain anywhere. In the past I went wheat free, which helped a lot with joint pain and stiffness but going totally grain free has taken things to a new level... I am over 60 and I feel like I'm in my 20s again!!! also have benefit of a flatter tummy and loss of weight all over. I do eat more veggies and fruit and lentils and seeds.
I never would have thought about sunflower stalks being edible. That's a lot of trouble, though, for not a lot of flour. Honestly, is it something that you **can** eat, or something that you really want to eat? As in "there is just nothing like a sunflower scone!"
That's a good question! It was a lot of work, but for me I really enjoyed the experience and I love learning all the ways I can use the plant resources that are right in front of me. I will say too that those scones were pretty amazing!
@@chicorygirlwellness I ask because, when I was young, my mother had a copy of Euel Gibbon's book, Stalking the Wild Asparagus. Unless you are caught in a war zone, or possess Mr. Gibbon's, and my mother's, dedication to the cause, you would not want to eat most of the things in that book. We, however, at least tried to eat all of the ones my mother could scavenge. 😆 On the other hand, my mother also gave me a love of Homesteading and I do understand the appeal of doing something yourself, just because you can. And often times being glad that you did.
