The Benefits of Buying Local
In working to feed our families real food, one of the most challenging parts can be knowing what foods to buy and how to wade through all the different labels and understand exactly what they mean! For me, this is one of the most important reasons to shop locally whenever I can! Not only can I put my money back into my own community and get better quality food, but I can go straight to the producer to ask questions to know exactly what I am putting on my table. In this video we interviewed Mendy, one of our favorite local producers to learn some of her thoughts on the benefits of shopping locally!

    I was googling yoghurt making and your video popped up. I have a crockpot too. I like how l dont have to buy an instant pot to do your recipe. Have you ever left the yoghurt to set for more than 24hrs? Will the level of probiotic properties become even more beneficial if it's left to set for more than 8-12 hours do you think? If so will it fail to increase the levels of probiotcs if l did let it go for 24-36 hours? I have a lactose free yoghurt to start mine and lactose free milk ready to make it. I have chosen lactose free as l am on a meat/fat diet where milk is never consumed. I will do it your way in the crockpot as you have shown. Thank you for not overcomplicating how you do things in the kitchen.

    • @chicorygirlwellness
      @chicorygirlwellness หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! Thank you for watching! I personally have never left it longer than about 12 hours. I have read that a longer culture time can increase the probiotics, but you also want to be careful about leaving it too long as it can cause problems as well. If the bacteria runs out of sugars to eat when left out too long, it can have the opposite effect and kill off the good bacteria. It can also significantly change the flavor of the yogurt making it a lot more sour which means you might have to add more sugar to make it palatable especially if serving to children or someone who wouldn't like the flavor. I hope that helps!

    Is grain free diet applicable for a underweight person ?

    • @chicorygirlwellness
      @chicorygirlwellness 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! This is a great question! I would think it would be fine especially since a grain-free diet is more of a healthier eating lifestyle rather than a diet to make you lose weight. It can lead to weight loss in those that may need it since it helps to give the body more real food, promote healthier digestion and support against inflammation and balanced blood sugar. It's goal though is to help the body be healthier, balanced and nourished so I would think it would be fine! I would just make sure to get healthy, well-rounded portions including healthy fats and proteins and of course, if there is an underlying health issue to being underweight, they may want to consult their practitioner. I hope that helps! Thank you!

    God bless you for this video. What about buckwheat is that not considered a grain?

    • @chicorygirlwellness
      @chicorygirlwellness 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Buckwheat is actually taken from the seeds and is considered a fruit and not a grain. Some people on a grain-free diet still avoid it because it can contribute to inflammation in some people, but some don't have a problem with it. It can also sometimes be cross contaminated with gluten products so is sometimes avoided on a gluten free diet as well. We have tried it, and it didn't seem to bother our crew and made a really nice hot cereal for breakfast! It is definitely not considered a grain though so is one of those foods that is good to look at individually.

    • @shakeyj4523
      @shakeyj4523 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chicorygirlwellness All grains are fruits. Not all fruits are grains. What you eat in wheat and rice are also seeds, (and fruit). The literal definition of "grain" is "A small, dry, one seeded fruit of Cereal grass". The reason Buckwheat is not considered a grain, is because it is a Dicotyledon, and not a monocotyledon. In other words, Buckwheat is not a grass. Cereal grains are grasses. If you don't even know that basic fact, I wonder what else you got wrong.

I personally use either magnesium l-threonate or magnesium glycinate. Glycinate is a great option as it is one that is more easily absorbed then some of the others. The brands that I have used and liked depended on the variety you choose. For the threonate, I like the Dr. Mercola brand. For the glycinate, I just tried the Dr. Eric Berg brand and like it. Intact whole grains do not have the problems you listed. Why not just stop eating refined grains and flour based products? I don’t think the problem was that you put some wheat berries in your sallad, had some steel cut oats for breakfast or some brown rice with your beans.

      Essentially it means avoiding anything that includes wheat, oats, corn and rice so, yes. However, I have noticed that some people include things in a grain-free diet that other people don't and there are some really great ways to replace those things! We avoided all of those things except for some pasta replacers. Some people still include rice because they don't feel it bothers them. A lot of people also avoid legumes, but we do still eat dried beans including using chickpea pasta. I actually just put up another video as a follow up on the differences between grain-free and gluten-free and it has some great replacement suggestions and examples of what you can eat. No vegs or fruits? Eat everything in moderation is the key. Meat only harm you

    • @tenmillionvolts
      @tenmillionvolts 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kimtran2010 Meat is what we are designed to digest very well. We can absorb the nutrients much more easily than we can from plants. Fruit is full of sugars which cause health problems (carbs). Vegetables contain phytotoxins and anti-nutrients. We mostly cook those out, but we don't know how badly those affect us over time. Therefore, you can do without them and just get what you need from animal products

    Number of eggs/amount of calcium powder anyone know?

    • @chicorygirlwellness
      @chicorygirlwellness 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! If you go to minute 2:49 it has the recipe for the toothpaste itself and gives all of the measurements. I use about 8 Tablespoons of eggshell/calcium powder per recipe. I need to count how many eggs I use for each batch, but I would say it is probably around 2 dozen. I hope that helps!
