The Evidence found in Clue's Soundtrack

In this video, I take a look at John Morris’ score for the 1985 film Clue. Even though comedic film music can be one of the hardest genres for a composer, comedies tend to be underrated when compared to other genres. But a closer look into Clue reveals evidence of a level of skill and creativity that is equal to the best in film music. If you enjoy the video, please Like and Subscribe! Join our...

    Heard about this video from the podcast "Wizard and the Bruiser". Partway through watching I checked the channel info looking for more of the same, expecting a long list of previous film breakdowns and many thousands of subscribers - it came as a shock to find quite the opposite. What I'm saying is this is a thing of beauty. Not just your analysis but the editing, including text and graphical notation to help the viewer grasp things easily, with perfectly cut examples from the movie. All put together it's something I'd expect to see from a long-established channel that's grown immensely with time and experience. And that only means you've got great things ahead of you! 🎵🎶🍍

    ABSOLUTELY GREAT analysis, man! It's so educational and precise. You definitely should do more of this. I suggest another great Silvestri's score, which is the Predator. You can notice that, moreover, they're alike! Thanks for the video.

    Your editing is amazing and its surprising that this is a one man channel! One that deserves more recognition really. I found your comment from Phil Edwards' vid on Vox and I have to say you have perfected the editing style. I have to ask how??? Maybe you saw the "how to edit like vox" vid by nicksfort which was really good, but I'm asking how you developed them, what did you work on etc. . Really impressive work, keep it up, I hope you get big one day.

    • @jigowatts1304
      @jigowatts1304 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, can't say how much your comment means to me. I'm definitely influenced by Vox's production value. Plus, I love Phil's video. The fact that you picked up on that is amazing. In terms of developing skills, I've been working in video production for 10+ years. Some of it takes a bit of time. At the beginning, I worked a lot with After Effects templates from Videohive. That allowed me to learn After Effects and understand how things work without the burden of starting things from scratch. And I still use templates sometimes for speed purposes. But one of the reasons I started this channel was to invest in developing advanced AE skills. And I have to say, it's been the thing that has helped me the most. It's a space where I can learn at my own pace, without the pressure a job brings. While I did learn on the job, that environment doesn't allow for experimentation and learning things that take time. So yeah, watching a lot of Vox videos (and a lot of other things too) and begin by imitating what I liked so I learned how to do things. And once I had some basics, I started being able to develop (hopefully) my own style. Also, a couple of courses on Skillshare where key to properly learn some things I has knowledge of, but didn't really knew that well. Stuff like this was really helpful www.skillshare.com/classes/The-Ultimate-Guide-to-3D-in-Adobe-After-Effects/99410767?via=search-layout-grid. And of course, TH-cam tutorials. Almost everything I want to do, I can search a tutorial for it (but I think you probably know this). Thank you so much for watching and your encouraging words.

    This video is absolutely fantastic. Thank you very much for making such an informative and in depth video that was broken down and explained exceptionally well. You’ve really hit the nail on the head about the small changes and variations on the main theme bringing a completely different feeling to the scene. I got an email last week that there was a new reissue of Hook, but I cannot for the life of me remember who was putting that out. Possibly MOV? I'm sure you've already heard about it. Great video man. So many great answers. I was actually opposite of you for vinyl collecting. I started off only buying popular music and would only get CDs or digital albums of soundtracks. That was until I discovered Mondo. That John Williams Greatest Hits was also one of my earliest CDs! That Mask of Phantasm story is awesome. That's the dream to find one of those gems. It's on my bucket list to visit Amoeba one day. I regret not getting that LOTR set. I may try to track down that blu-ray set. Social Network and Tron are great choices. I think I have used those as well.

I've played for a buncha years, but am just now challenging myself again to learn piano, theory behind scoring films, and just more technical music in general. I'm bored of music that just stays in key. To me, its almost like music in ABCDEFG major or minor is boring now, and isnt even creative at all. Wanna break out of that prison of 8 options lol.
