The 17 w s m was a rip-off almost $400 for a gun that would shoot without buying an additional stock an ammunition that is impossible to find and when you find it there's no real choices in bullet configuration and weight. For example, the Hornady round comes in full metal jacket and soft points designed to be used on larger game. Canal Winchester has this new 21 Sharp they can shove that one too

I ended up getting a 22 wmr because you can't find 17 wsm ammo, or even the guns. Otherwise I would have definitely gone with the 17 wsm. I wish they were more popular. They would have been the perfect gun if all you ever wanted was one gun for everything.

Fyi. Extractor can malfunction and may not eject shell casing or round out. Visibly check chamber. Racking slide alone doesnt mean its clear.

I have a savage 93 fss in 22wmr. Really cool gun, and accurate. Dropped in.a riflebasix trigger and bedded the action, versa pod bipod on front. 50 on 50 at 200 meters, and good groups at 300. There is 10 shots mag. The only problem is the price : 22wmr runs at 5 times the price of the 22lr...

It's not the same projectile. It's copper jacketed and the case overlaps the projectile. The chamber is also designed slightly different to accommodate the thin step from case to projectile.
