you dont get the speed from automatic drift as manual

make sure you actually play 50cc and 100cc to learn why manual is better, holding items (sometimes except red boxes) is better, and learn the one-shroom shortcut on luigi circut, moo moo meadows, gap jump on mushroom gorge, and the lake skip on toads factory. also, use nun chuck if you don't have the OP controller, wheelie, and use standstill mini-turbos when you come to a complete stop.

If you think this is bad, I've gotten beaten multiple times, just before the finish line. The closer you get to the end of the (entire) game, the worse it gets, and the more you get beat, at the last second. I've had multiple races where the top 8 racers are within 2 seconds of one another. And, if I'm not mistaken, you are on automatic. Try manual boost. It takes some getting used to, but I've done a lot better with it.
