Suck It Up Or Go Home is a book about the courage to stand up, keep going and never give in! On this channel you'll find videos from the book and the author's life in martial arts. These include training on the Yoshinkan Aikido Senshusei course in Tokyo, Japan.
Chida Sensei at the Yoshinkan Aikido 50th All Japan Enbu, Tokyo, Japan.
One of the greatest practitioners of Yoshinkan Aikido, Chida Sensei performs at the 50th All Japan Enbu in Tokyo, Japan. I was lucky enough to be in Tokyo to see this demonstration in 2005 and would start my Senshusei journey the year after.
Arguably one of the toughest martial arts courses in the world and described as 11 months of hell, the international Yoshinkan Aikido Senshusei course is the subject of the book - Suck It Up Or Go Home - A True Story About The Courage To Stand Up, Keep Going And Never Give In! The book charts the author's early life from being bullied at school to the Muay Thai ring and to Tokyo, Japan. More than just a book on martial arts, it contains life lessons on courage, discipline and the determination to keep going, no matter what.

Sunrise from Mount Fuji / Fuji-san - Yoshinkan Aikido Senshusei.

The Japanese proverb states that someone who climbs Mount Fuji is a wise person, someone who climbs twice is a fool. I climbed it before the start of the Senshusei course and it was an incredible experience. You climb to the summit overnight, then watch the sunrise before making your descent. I'd never felt cold like I did at the top of Fuji-san before and was glad when the sun came up. I descr...

I guess the behavior on the streets of Iwama by the aikido uchi deshi isn't what Saito sensei and the locals would have appreciated much these days.
А чё они бегут на него как ужаленные
受け身が‥みな同じで面白くないなあー
Балет, ей богу
А зачем сенсей во время показательных выступлений танцует брейк-данс? Вот эти характерные движения руками а-ля движения робота....зачем это?
I know that dojo very well! Back training there again after 8 years off the Matt! Forgot how completely exhausting Jiyu Waza was!
Thanks Shaun, a long time ago now 👍.
Nice work!

Hey, look. You can see my name on the wall!
Untested martial arts are no different than religion. Aikido has some good principles and techniques but unlike judo they haven't been forced to adapt techniques to skilled attackers.
It’s a difference between theory and practice You don’t need to spar to play around with techniques and feel which ones feel powerful and the like.
Sensei Friburger Yoshinkan Akido
Great skills on how to fall when you get touched.
you are trained to fall that way because if you dont your shit gets broken or hyper extended

Try it on an uncooperative aggressor rather than a compliant senior student and you'll get a different outcome.
Try what?
@@MarcusStanton-yg5pr those techniques
Whenever I have been uke for an Aikido black belt, I always had the strong feeling that I could not have resisted those techniques even if I had wanted to do so. Once I laucnhed a committed attack, I could not escape being thrown by the technique: if the black belt had done nothing, I would have hit him.
@@omarmirza9957 Were you unrealistically swining your hand like an axe?
@@Youdontknowwhatliterallymeans I was attacking as I was meant to, with a downward strike. It was the same motion as I see used in street assault videos, when an attacker brings a weapon down on his attacker's head or face in trying to finish him off.
I personally really enjoyed AWP, it’s an interesting and entertaining story. But, as a martial artist I found your title much more interesting and informative as well as entertaining. The big difference obviously is your martial art background and the fact you went to Japan for a purpose and not enrol on the shinsusei as a cultural experience. You get a better insight in to the training, which is what I wanted to read about. However both books compensate each other and when reading your story and AWP you get a broader idea of training and living in Japan. Much respect
Thank you for the feedback, which is very much appreciated. Great to hear you enjoyed the book. I also enjoyed AWP, which was a key driver in my decision to go to Japan and take the course. If you’d be happy to leave a book review on Amazon please I’d be very grateful. Osu!

I felt the same 👍. His classes, as I describe in the book, were the ones you wanted but didn't really want at all 😂.
Excellent interview with one of the Yoshinkan legends! Thanks for posting!
Thank you Ken and glad you enjoyed it 👍.
RUNNING AND CHOPPING LIKE THIS MAKES THE "ATTACKER" OFF BALANCE. SO YOU DON'T NEED TO THROW HIM, HE WILL FALL BY HIMSELF.
Finally a slightly educated person who isn’t ignorant to the martial art
Very nicely compiled into one... never get tired of watching
Yoshinkan Sucks !
I swear that aikido will be rendered useless against a boxer
I don’t agree perfectly ! I’m am Aikido teacher and practitioner and my son is a professional boxer 🥊 Aikido is not only about falls, is also about key to the joints and other tricks. Of course, a boxer is someone unpredictable and very fast. That’s why, I’ve learned a little of boxe 🥊 with my son and I mix with aikido. Take care.
