Midwest Low Vision / Dr. Jarrod Long
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 15 ม.ค. 2018
Dr. Jarrod Long has been a leading expert in low vision care since 1997 and has helped thousands of patients get the most out of the vision they have for the things that are important to them. From almost normal 20/30 vision to well beyond legally blind, Dr. Long will customize a treatment plan and prescribe what is necessary to help you reach your goals.
Top 5 Questions to Ask your Low Vision Doctor
Midwest Low Vision is located inside Long Family Eye Care at 660 South College Avenue in Bloomington, Indiana. Dr. Jarrod Long founded Midwest Low Vision and has practiced low vision as a specialty since 1997. They now have satellite locations throughout south-central Indiana.
Our low vision patients typically have dry macular degeneration, wet macular degeneration, Stargardt macular dystrophy (a.k.a., Stargardt's or Stargardt disease), diabetic retinopathy, traumatic brain injury (TBI), albinism (including ocular albinism), glaucoma, optic neuropathy, brain stroke, and many other vision-limiting conditions.
Not all of our patients are legally blind. Many are partially-sighted, have lost their peripheral vision (tunnel vision, hemianopsia, hemianopia), or even have near normal vision. In the latter case, they may simply need strong reading glasses, strong bifocals, or prismatic reading glasses...special glasses just beyond what most eye doctors would normally prescribe.

Reading telescopic glasses are designed to enhance near or intermediate vision. Mobility is not practical with a reading telescopic pair of glasses and one should never try to walk while wearing them. The telescopes are typically mounted in the bottom of the carrier lenses and angled down making it comfortable to read or work on tasks up close. They can be mounted on-center for computer use as ...

good day, can you recommwnd someone here in the Philippines tgat could help us with that glasses because my brother is suffering from limited peripheral vision on both eyes after his craniotomy, this changed his life drastically coz driving is essential to him. doctors here only prescribed us nerve regeneration meds that might help but will take lots of time.

what is the price of this eye glass? what is the the name of this reading eye glass?
I have presented several options from "regular" glasses to video devices. There is a wide range of prices from one end to the other. Regarding names, again, there are several options presented. Please take a look at the chart for more information. Thank you.
Thank you for this valuable information. Can you recommend anyone in the Maryland, Washington, DC area that offers this service.
Of course! Visit www.ialvs.com and Find A Doctor in your area. Dr. Azman and a few associates should be close. --Dr. Long

Hi sir
I m froom Pakistan can we import it? ur chat contract ID
this is a really neat idea. What are your thoughts on the binocular glasses that they have where people can watch TV with them?
The non-prescription, simple ones are better than nothing. But, the high-quality, prescription-style that low vision doctors order are the best. They have your exact prescription for the exact distance(s) you require and they possess the best quality optics in the world. However, because the prescription ones are much more expensive, it can come down to what you are willing to pay for the best TV vision possible. Take a look at the video I did on the subject here: th-cam.com/video/gjgacjSodZU/w-d-xo.html Visit www.ialvs.com to Find a Qualified Low Vision Doctor near you. Thank you, Dr. Long

Is low vision has a cure?
@@maryjanearaza-castillo4150 I'm sorry, no. Until all forms and causes of vision loss are eliminated from the world, the condition of having low vision will exist. Treatable, not curable. Thank you, Dr. Long
Hello Doctor i am from India. I had a major retinal tear in my upper peripheral retina i had barrage laser to seal the tear but after that i had experience less visual fields downwards. Being to these conditions i am facing depression and anxiety all the time. Please help me would these Svag glasses would help me to get my inferior field of vision to restore properly. How to order these glasses please suggest.

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Abbas Ismail, and I am writing to you from Zaria, Kaduna State. I work as an admin assistant at the Distance Learning Centre, Ahmadu Bello University. I am visually impaired and have very low vision, which significantly impacts my ability to read writings on paper, even with reading glasses. Currently, the only way I can manage to read is by taking pictures of documents with my phone and zooming in on them. This workaround is far from ideal and has become increasingly challenging and psychologically taxing. I am reaching out to you to request any assistance or recommendations you may have to help improve my situation. Any support, whether technological or otherwise, would be greatly appreciated and would make a substantial difference in both my professional and personal life. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Abbas Ismail
I appreciate your detailed message and your concerns. I wish I were able to help remotely, but I can not. Visit www.ialvs.com and Find a Doctor. Regards, Dr. Long
Are MaxDetail Glasses a good choice for my 92 year old mother with macular degeneration?
Relative to doing nothing, they are a good choice. However, the BEST choice, if possible, is to schedule her for a low vision evaluation. Visit www.ialvs.com and Find A Doctor. Thank you. -- Dr. Long
Hello Dr. Long. Because of an heart attack related brain damage, my father lost peripheral vision on his both eyes. We haven't measured it actually but approximately if you take nose as the normal line, he has 30 degrees on both sides making it up to 45 or 60 degress i think. Basically he can't see someone standing on his right or left. Does this help in this situation? And do you know anyone in the UK who can help us?
I'm so sorry to hear this. It might be possible to help with prisms. I'm sorry, I do not know of anyone in the UK. - Regards, Dr. Long
Do you have a clinic in the Phillippines?
@LuisaAgena-c3w I'm sorry, no, we do not.
How can we have this glasses ?
Thank you for asking. You need to see a low vision doctor who prescribes them. They are customized for you and cannot be directly ordered. Find a doctor at ialvs.com/doctor-directory/
are these available in the UK England
Possibly. You'll have to do some searching though. Best of luck! Dr. Long
Love this video. I just also got my binasal occlusion on my prisms following my TBI. This is great work, thank you!

What TV settings are better? brightness, contrast, etc.
Well, generally high contrast, "sports" setting. But, really everyone and every eye condition is different. So, whatever works best!
I'm low vision and side vision problems
I have a swollen macular hopefully a injection to shrink it
I have a pair of these glasses for reading and another pair for distance. They are a little heavier but you get used to them. They have changed my life!! Dr Long and Holly are the best!!
Any contact where I can get this?
Sure! www.midwestlowvision.com
Her glasses are cool!
Wow❤!
intresting i have a 20% left side vission loss due to a brain tumor and multiple surgeries. it's tough to explain how it feels because your brain filters the loss out.
Yes. I can't imagine. No one can truly understand unless it happens to them.
This is amazing!🤯
Will these work on a patient who has low vision due to myopic, keratoconus, and macular degeneration. Very high stigmatism. Also due to macula and retina reattachment. He wears rigid gas permeable contacts.
Of course. There's a good chance they will! Any forms of vision loss can potentially be helped.
Dr. Long is definitely one of the great ones, he really cares, he is one that helps his patients to best utilize the vision that they still do have, unfortunately I can't say the same about many other doctors, you are greatly appreciated Dr. Long, i believe I've spoken with you a few times over the phone
These devices have been a life changer for me, i was born with Achromatopsia, was told my entire life that I'd never be able to drive, well now I am a bioptic driver, the freedom and independence that I've gained is unmatched, thank you for sharing this great info Dr......oh and i am very familiar with you, your clinic are one of our prescribers 😊
Granny had binoculars on😊
Amazing, no other words need to be said.
I have a birth defect no peripheral vision can that be fixed with these glasses ?
Not typically, but it's hard to know what might help without having your vision evaluated. These, or another style, could work. -Dr. Long
Holly is the best at explaining things! I have had my glasses for 2 years and I remember how exciting it was to be able to read at a normal distance with one pair of glasses and easily recognize people’s faces and learn to drive with the other pair of glasses. It changed my life!! I didn’t realize how much I had missed.
I agree, she's excellent! -Dr. Long
Is this a solution for stargardt disease problem. I mean, can a person with SD return driving and seeing people faces?
@@lipecanad4 of course! Holly is our lead low vision tech and she actually has Stargardt Disease. That said, you have to realize that you may be at a completely different level of vision even though you have the same disease. --Dr. Long
Can you tell me the name of these glasses or what to ask for, my grandmother has macular degeneration, this would mean the world to her.

Hello. My granfather has both macula lutea and cataracts. He's 88 and he can't see well. What should we do about it? He's been having his injections for the past 4-5 months (I guess) but it has no good to him. I'd be happy if you could answer 🙏

Is there anyone in or near cincinnati ohio that coukd help with wet macular degeneration and glaucoma?
Yes, there should be several medical eye doctors to choose from. As far as low vision care, Midwest Low Vision is only a couple hours away if you are having functional vision issues. Best of luck! Thank you.
@midwestlowvisiondr.jarrodl8904 ok. Thank you. Will check, or set an appointment to come there.
I love my distance glasses! I can see expressions on people’s faces which I didn’t realize I had missed so much. Dr Long is awesome!!!
I have hard time driving. Daytime ok but night bad. My doctor test my eye with new glasses that don't work. Said need shot in my right eye. I have catracts too.
Thank you for sharing. Difficulty night driving is one of the most common complaints I hear in my general practice, as well as in my low vision specialty. Filters and some special lenses, such as E-scoops, can help, but there are no easy remedies. Sometimes, night driving must simply be avoided. Best of luck to you. -Dr. Long
What about uses with a computer?
Thank you for the question. Many of these options will work for the computer, but a few considerations must be taken into account. First, the working distance. Typically, you won't be comfortable being too close to a monitor -- which rules out a few options, such as microscopic systems. Second, the position of the monitor. Is it a laptop, viewed well below eye level? Or, is it a desktop, at or above eye level? Third, field of vision can make a difference too. With larger, or multiple monitors, a small-field telescopic lens might be difficult slow and frustrating to use. Finally, on the plus side, you have light being emitted from the monitor, so proper lighting is not as much of a concern. Wide-angle telescopic systems are preferred, but larger monitors and special software should be considered as well. --Dr. Long
Dr.long Im mel from philippines and my mom has wet macular degeneration for a long time. I would like to ask how to get appointment to have a consultation schedule with you, so that you can evaluate my mother eye sights if what glasses will work for her..thank you..
Please call or email. My contact information is in the description of the video. Thank you!
Hello, our son has right side visual field loss due to a hemispherectomy surgery. He currently has prism glasses, but they don’t have the side lense seen here, we were told that the prism is “built in” (his lenses look like normal flat lenses). Could you tell me, if what he has is the same as what you offer? He’s 5 so it’s hard to know if the glasses are helping him or not since he doesn’t give the best info about what he can see/not see.
What I am describing is different. They may not work for him at his age. But, he'll adapt better than most. - Dr. Long
Do you think what you’re describing could be beneficial for him in the future?
@@sittingonacorlflakePossibly, yes. It's a tool for expanding his vision. But again, he may adapt so well that any aids or special glasses may just be a hindrance.
Thank you for sharing this story and resources!
