A Prayer for the Stressed and Overwhelmed

“As I leave this Earth and sail into the infinite cosmic universe, the wars, the triumphs, the beauty, and the bloodshed, the ocean of human endeavor, it all grows quiet, insignificant. I'm nothing more than recycled stardust and borrowed energy, born from a rock, spinning in the aether. I watch my life backwards and forwards and I feel free. Nothing is real, love is everything, and I know noth...
Viktor Frankl on Living Twice

Viktor Frankl quote that has stayed with me ever since I saw the movie About Time. “Live as if you were living already for the second time and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as you are about to act now!" It seems to me that there is nothing which would stimulate a man's sense of responsibleness more than this maxim, which invites him to imagine first that the present is past and,...

This is what all the wise people have told us throughout the history of the human race. To understand how we really want to live our life, we have to travel to the future to see what its like looking back, but since we cant time travel, the 2nd best thing we have is imagining it.

So why did Hitler choose that kind of life? What did he need to work through? And what about the people who chose to have life long disabilities and incurable painfull disease? Very strange choice. How does he explain this? Sounds like utter nonsense to me.

My family had a pastor some years ago who was/is the picture of narcissism: My way or the highway~don't *ever* question my every whim~gaslighter extraordinaire. He was abusive, wouldn't have known proper church discipline if it smacked him in the face, but he got a pass from many parishioners because "his father abused him". Our family finally decided to leave (which I believe is what he ultimately wanted) but it was one of the most frustrating and painful things we'd ever gone through. Which also would have pleased him. On the odd time when I see him in public (grocery store, etc.) he doesn't say a word but just looks at me with shark eyes.

This is my father. Going from one church to the other saying, "they just dont see and appreciate all my special gifts." And disappearing if anyone of them try to say he is ever wrong in his abuse. He always said God dorectly called him to be a pastor over a flock and wanted to basicly makr his own cult. Its pretty sick.

Thanks for sharing, this is another way life is telling me to start to feel my body and allow the energy to move, rather than running a story to avoid feeling. Moving from blaming other to taking responsability to what is happening inside of me.

War will always happen. Human beings will always fight one way or another. That's why the military exist. If you can get rid of all desires- which is impossible; a military will always be needed. I'm proud of being a member of the armed forces. And I'm proud for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice not for the country, but usually for there friends.

And let's not forget the upper echelons of organized religion! They added and deleted what their egos decided what was right or wrong in the Bible, which they said in most cases was the indisputable word of God. In the Catholic church which eventually was centered in Rome (originally it was in Constantinople) there was the various councils of Nicea - and others, here's where they REALLY began to edit stuff. THEY decided to a great extent what Christianity was a was not - what the dogma was and was not. But the real story and Good News is that we each have the Mystery and Grace that abides within us! That can never taken from us as it abides within us. WE ultimately get to decide - God immanent and God transcendent - God within and God outside of us. The Kingdom of God lies within.❤

What?? The Church decided what Chrsitianity is. The Bishops at the Councils of Nicea, Constantinople and Chalcedon rejected political influence on the religion at each council. Christianity was never a philosophy. It was, and is, and always will be a religion. The distinction lies in the role that divine revelation plays in the formation of the idealogy. You cannot call Christianity a philosophy when the central tenant of Christianity is that it was founded by a man who claimed to be the God of the universe, was put to death for claiming such and who rose from the dead to prove His claim. It is the most religion-y religion. This is an obvious attempt to politicize your religion, and likely to make excuse for sins explicitly condemned in scripture. You cannot have politics before religion.

Except that Catholicism is only one branch of Christianity, and many of the decisions made there are disputed by other Christian sects.

"You get a lot more from a kind word and a gun than from a kind word alone." -Al Capone Peace talks only work if you can say "or else" at the end, otherwise your non-violence can be safely ignored and interpreted, correctly, for the weakness it shows.

You seem to believe that there is an alternative available at present. At the current time, the West and more specifically the United States has done more to increase the personal freedom and privileges that individuals can exercise routinely than any other country. This is not true for the majority of the world. Most countries do not come close This is a terribly flawed and seemingly cruel world but as it stands, the United States is the absolute least of evils that has ever been. And trust me, the nature of society and power absolutely dictate the need for an overarching stabilizing force. If left to themselves, many countries would actively attack one another as has been displayed over the entirety of human history. We cannot rely on the hope of goodwill alone, there must be an active threat of significant violence to deter any potential attacks Are all of our pursuits 100% noble? No but thats because corruption and evil exists everywhere. Thankfully the entire government, while inefficient, is not outright evil. Human lives have been lost in the pursuit of protecting a free society. There are worse causes to die for. Sadly some die unnecessarily although you could argue all deaths are unnecessary. That is true to a point and that point is when the enemy decides their goals are more inportant than their own adversaries lives. Humans are aggressive and domineering by nature. They will not abandon their ingrained instincts because somebody presents a good or well-rationed argument.

Non violence works when your enemy is also intreated in peace and non-violence, but thats is rarely the case, what should we have done after Pearl Harbor? found a Non-violent way to respond? what about 9-11, we should have found a Non-violent way to respond? It sounds good in theory, but not practical!
