Hi I’m happy too see the gears in perfect condition on this drive. Just want to point out that what you mention as ”the hardening has come off” is the result of a perfect running in process where the black surface treatment added specifically for this purpose has done its job. The gears still have the full hardening depth and can be expected too have a very long service life to come.

”The hardening” you mention is actaually a suface treatment allowing the gears to get a perfect surface when running in the gears. The result is the shiny surface you see which create perfect conditions for an oil film in the gear mesh. This gives a long gear life with a minimum of wear. These gears are case hardened and the depth is not affected by the running in process.

Was trying to find a way to contact you but this is the best I can figure. I'm looking at a boat with a D6 and volvo penta outdrive. I've been told conflicting information on the outdrives, all the way from 'junk' to 'bulletproof'.. I'm not really trying to buy a new outdrive every year... is there any info you can tell me on what I should be looking for, and what to avoid?

Deff burned up the impeller. No way hose water keeps up with that kind if rpms...
