@phil2pips Their quills are hollow. It's to help them if they fall etc. However, they are sealed off and they can't blow air out of them. Our hedgehog sheds a few at time (really painful to find) and I questioned it myself. Cut a quill (off the hog) in half and you will see the middle is full of air.

@FlumKungarna depends on how big the hedgehog is really...on small ones like this its more like a hard brush?

Mine curled up in a ball and rolled down the stairs... He's ok though!

@mathewbusch they are hollow and you can say quills or spines its just that porcupines have bards on the end and come out when they stick you but no big deal...thats why they call it quilling when the babies loses their baby quills and grow their adult ones

They're hollow, i've found one on my bed, and i cut it in half, and it was hollow. though i don't know about the blowing through them part.

Haha yeah, we all aim for socialized ones, but sometimes you never know what you're gonna get. And even to have it properly socialized sometimes takes eons. My lil one goes into a ball when she has nightmares and thats it! I wish I saw it more often lol. its so cool to watch.

Socialable ones are awesome. I prefer them more than they super shy ones, cuz you can't really pick them up. D: I have to feed my shy one 3 worms before he'll even uncurl.

Yes, they don't hypervenulate though, my mom told me it's them blowing air through their quills. which makes sense cuz the quills are hollow. But yeah, that's normal.

its ok its quite normal for them to do that, esspecially if u have one with a grumpy temproment, we had one that was like that, you just have to spend more time with that one to calm it down, we found rubbing a finger in the middle of its back would make it relax :)
