I am so glad that I learned Dr. Hamilton's method. I took my 3-day-old newborn to a pediatrician with 32 years of experience. When my baby was crying, the pediatrician said she couldn't do anything to listen to my baby if my baby kept crying. A wonder why this works ? , maybe gives them a sense of stability and gives them a chance to look around because they can’t communicate or make themselfs sit up and look around on their own.

Tried this and it worked great! I think there's several reasons why it works: 1.) Babies don't have strong neck muscles and in "the hold" they don't have to engage them. 2.) From "the hold's" perspective they have an unobstructed view of the world (from floor to ceiling) and this gives them context and orientation. It must feel natural and calming which explains the mesmerized look on their face. 3.) The hands pinned to the chest creates the sensation of stability, like gripping something tightly during a roller coaster ride.
