According to my theory, Guts said that Rickert can never hate griffith, even though he is disappointed but he can never hate Griffith and may be thats griffith weak point, he gets power form hate and rage thats why Guts was not able to land a hit on him. So I think there will be a point when Guys will understand this and stop hating him because you also know that hating something cannot take you to somewhere and when guts will be able to do this he will kill griffith and at last after the death griffith will come back to its original old tortured body and by looking at his face he will change and leave fighting and go in Saint mode then he will continue his life with Casca and we got a happy ending...

I disagree, the manga is beautifully drawn, but it addapts the novels poorly, it takes way too many liberties and doesn't understand the deepest aspects of the characters, wich ends up ruining some of the core themes of the series. Making it a whole different story, based only on the most supeficial and vague understanding of the series. Everything new it adds screws up the carefuly crafted cohesion of the novels, wich are pretty well addapted in the anime. Even kizu, despite being so different from the novels.

For me, best one is Lost Children. We see how guts (despite being brutal) isn't a monster, he still thinks about the horrible things he is doing, and that makes him not able to kill. To get his full potential, he needs to embrace his darkness, awakening a monster (later we know that it is the beast of darkness). But that monster is starting to get in his head unless he starts caring about others. It shares many themes with Black Swordman. But i think lost children portrays it better

I absolutely hated the anime but about 5 years later tried the manga out of boredom because I liked the concept of Tokyo ghoul but thought it was terribly executed. goddamn am I lucky I gave it a shot because it's second only to aot for me now. everything you said is true. shame it's made out to be an edgy gorror rather than the interesting story it is :(
