Rovos Rail at De Grendal
มุมมอง 127วันที่ผ่านมา
While out walking the K9, we stopped to take a breather at De Grendal Station (as usual) when an unexpected Rovos Rail came into view around the bend from Avondale (Monte Vista Line). Interestingly the train seemed to have been turned already (evident by the observation car behind the locos) ready for the return journey back to Pretoria which took place the next day.

Rovos Rail Chase : Ruiterskop to Laingsburg PART 2
มุมมอง 131หลายเดือนก่อน
This chase was done on 27 October 2024. This Rovos was running about 7 hours late. Class 18E motive power was in use and later the 43Ges can be seen making their way to Salbar siding where the 18es will be shut off and the diesels will take the train to Worcester due to the wash-away that is still under construction at De Wet.

Trainspotting at De Grendal / Avondale
มุมมอง 1792 หลายเดือนก่อน
While out walking my sweet K9 friend along the tracks at De Grendal and Avondale, Prasa and Transnet each made respective appearances. 2 class 36GES were heading back to Bellville depot after doing some work at the Harbour sidings. Prasa however we're hard at work getting commuters to and from work. Ceres Rail also out and about, was heading back to Cape Town via the harbour, with the 2 Transne...

Just love the sound of the traction motors on these EMUs
@@marval44039 They sound like it's about time warp into hyperspeed
Sometimes, the best catches are the most unexpected ones. What's even better about this was that the train was using its own locomotives with the 5E running under its own power. When last did you see an electric loco running past here?
I couldn't agree more man. If I'd walked down i would've gotten them on the bend but it was too hot. Man the last time I got another electric loco other than the EMUs was back in 2023 with the Shosholoza
What an AWESOME suprise it was, driving on the N1 on that Sunday afternoon, and then all of a sudden to the left,, on the track,,,,," WOW. ROVOS RAIL.... " Beautiful.....
@@lionelwalton6784 about where did you see the train
@Imsaptouw at the blockhouse / bridge.
@lionelwalton6784 I see, was that last weekend, were you standing with a camera?
@Imsaptouw i was with the small truck. I recorded with my phone.
@lionelwalton6784 aahh yes I remember you now
Looks like a former Queensland Railways loco, many NSW and QLD locomotives were sold off to African and South American countries. Fancy looking train, is that for tourists?
Yes it is an Import. It's a private luxury train here in South Africa.
Thanks friend did the class 5E pull the, whole train including the diesel locomotive
@@nigellennert8967 Yes, up until Salbar. I got them again outside of Touwsriver with the 5E still leading
9:25 has to be my favorite clip with that curve. Also love the friendly nature of the Rovos personel especially that lady at 5:34
I have to agree with you Marval, the crew is very friendly and I must admit Oom Kobus was expecting to see me along the tracks. Laingsburg has alot of curves as you may have seen in the last 2 clips. Can't be everywhere at once so long zoom does help.
Thanks friend I must say the video is of very good quality clear as the sky. How far up north is this where the crew change took place
@@nigellennert8967 Thanks Nigel, This crew change was at Ruiterskop couple of Kilometers outside of Laingsburg
Nice, very nice indeed. Two in one special.I loved the train with the mixed containers. Seems like the two trains swapped crews
@@marval44039 Thanks man, yeah they swapped crews, so I got the same crew back down again. I thought it was a unit manganese train until I saw the contents and the containers
Great stuff
The trains 🚂 switched from MTN to Telkom
@@KohlerSAStudios That's a good one 🤣
Mandatory speed restrictions?
@@KhotsoZwane-ym4zq yes signals not functional
How far is the harbor from here? cause I see the container train was running without a telemeter
@@marval44039 Its about 24Km
That was during the 1980s
Thanks friend nice video the class 36 GEs still looks very good. On another note a recently saw a few pics of the class 36GMs doing shunting work in Cape Town Harbour
@@nigellennert8967 i think prasa still has one 36gm doing shunting at Culemborg yard
In the US their locals are mostly GP9’s just like us here for the Class 36.
@@KhotsoZwane-ym4zq correct, but sometimes they have their big GEs doing shunting aswell
Yerre, but the wind was blowing kwaai there at the beginning. The clip at Buffelsrivier is too nice. Lovely stuff 👌🏾
@@marval44039 Thanks bossman, the wind was not playing, I think wind speed was about 40-50kph. I was trying to re-create a clip form previous years at the bridge
Thanks friend nice video. Where exactly is, salbar
@@nigellennert8967 Thank you Nigel, really appreciate the feedback. Salbar is the siding at the first (or last tunnel, depending on the way you're moving). So from Touwsriver side, Salbar would sit outside the first tunnel (the longest of the 4). It overlooks the Hexriver valley with impressive views.
Mooi content boet. It's just a shame the 38s got lost along the way. It would have been awesome for you to see them in this section. Hopefully, laingsburg will get some rain soon. The river bed looks so dry and depressing
@@marval44039 Thanks boss, my wait to see the 38s continue. You'll never believe how quickly that river dries. Just last month that river was flowing.
Awsome.. I like scene where the train is crossing the bridge and the dry river bed
@@nigellennert8967 Thank you Nigel, ive always wanted to catch the Rovos there
Great video! I was pretty surprised to see the new yellow paint stripes down the side and above the cab, it doesn't look too bad. I see I make a little appearance at Kalbaskraal. 😆
@@MichaelShannon3322 I noticed the paint aswell at De Grendal, I was lost until I saw your guys' white car and the corolla, so I knew I just had to follow you guys😅
Great stuff buddy,🤪

Beautiful to hear that sounds again

Claire has got some legs on her. Love the special look they gave her, too. Awesome compilation, bro.
Thanks bossman, I too was having a look at that makeover. I still don't know if it yellow reflective tape or paint😂
Great video. Nice to see the steam loco without the assistance of the diesel locos
Thanks Nigel, yes they don't need the diesels other than the pass, which fortunately was not on the schedule on this run.
Hi must they still fixed Avondal station
@@nigellennert8967 Yes, along with De Grendal
Thanks for the video. I agree that the x'trapolis moving very silently. Other times I can here the trains passes but not now any more they sneak pass here without any noise
@@nigellennert8967 I can distinguish by horn, but they're so quiet you'd never know they are they if you didn't see it first
Getting creative with intro. The 36GEs sound violent after watching and listening to the first few clips of the silent X'Trapolis Megas 😄
@@marval44039 Thanks bossman, yeah I'm experimenting with new styles and techniques. Those GEs were loud, maybe because they were moving slowly? As for the X'trapolis, those things are ninjas 😅
Great intro 👏 love your vidoes
Thanks boss man, appreciate it.
Awesome video. Love the intro too.
Thank you Mr Rossman🙏🙏
Thanks I believe the malmesbury train has been suspended now6
I used to commute on that train from Kalbaskraal....nice catch 😊
To hear the sound of the blowers once again, completes me.Good job Mr Cameraman.
Thank you Mr Elton, hope you enjoyed the clip.
I see they removed the weeds on the switches.
Aswell as the tree that grew between the 2 tracks
I think I've seen 100 running around here in Gauteng once. To think they've built over 230 of these already is impressive. Still a long way to go to reach 600
They probably test them there before sending them down to us.
:)
2:59 the front locos are they 5E or 5E 1. For me it looks like 5E 1. Train driver on pension.
@@williehill7909 I believe they're 5E1's
Beautiful train
@@Toomaxxebie 🙏🙏🙏
Excellent video very clear footage. If possible please make a video where the class 43s take over from the the electric locomotives on this section
That Request is a bit tricky for me to execute as that happens all the way North of Worcester at Salbar, and I'm from Cape Town but I will definitely try in future

@@nigellennert8967Thanks Nigel, yeah the stations don't look very inviting at all
Why is the Malmesbury train always getting pulled by Transnet diesels instead of PRASA diesels ?
The only diesels I believe prasa has are doing shunting in the yards
Wow
😊
I'm sure the Malmesbury service has been cancelled as well because of the dam collapse?
Has the wash away that happened at De Wet repaired?
@@KhotsoZwane-ym4zq not yet I'm afraid, however teams have been working overtime getting it repaired
