I Would Buy Ten Of These If I Could!

This is my 03 Buell XB9S. this is going to be one of the only rides I'll be taking on her until i can address a few maintenance issues.
Should You Buy A Buell?
มุมมอง 47K2 ปีที่แล้ว
i do not recommend buying these if you want to hoon around on. you have to remember they havent made these since 2009-2010 for the very latest models. Parts production also stopped abruptly at that time. In a large sense, whats left is all we got, so respect these damn bikes!

Theres some stupid festival in town, and wherever that happens the roads just become ridiculous with incompetence. i find it ironic how im mentioning the brakes sucking on this bike then someone pulls out in front of me. maybe i should heed that warning.
Very Different Than The Buell

first time ive shared the fz on here with this exhaust. i never get bored of this bike.
Spotted A Buell In The Wild!

this was my 4th of july cruise. went out to my favorite corners before the rain came, and spotted a slick looking 1125CR out playing on the turns as well.
The Best The Buell Has Felt Yet!

so i replaced the old ngk copper 8 plugs with some new ngk iridium 9 plugs, replaced 2 breather hoses, also cleaned and oiled the old k&n air filter extensively. shes much happier now, and minutes ago noticed my batter terminals were loose, have yet to see if that made a difference at all. i love this bike.

FZ-09 Exhaust Update, Stock Pipe Back On
Nice bike! I Just picked up a 2003 xb9R. You are definitely right about the low RPM throttle input throttle input. Really jerky. Thinking about taking it to a local tuner, sense there is really no information on how to tune these bikes. I have a Buell tooth, so I may try data loging.
That things sounds so good
Soon or later, Chinese will make a good copy of these bikes, you can already find an SWM which is a copy-paste of the Sportster 1200. Usually their engines run smoother. In the meantime…I need one (original)!
Bonjour Toi et ta Buell vous n'avez pas de chance, il faut réclamer des routes avec des virages au gouvernement ! Ou venir en Normandie, ici il peut y avoir des routes avec plusieurs virages😁
Please keep up the videos and make one of you riding on some back roads
I'll do my best. Life is a little complicated at the moment, but I will try to get some more out this summer. I appreciate the feedback 🙏
Curious about where you’d find information on how to do your own repairs on Buell bikes. I’m fairly mechanically inclined, but I’ve noticed it’s harder to find “how to” videos featuring this bike. Any help?
The first thing everyone will tell you is to source the service manual for your model and year. Theres several reputable guys in the facebook groups that can give advice. Aagaard Moto Foundry is one of those guys, and he has a TH-cam channel as well
Been riding Buells since 1998-cyclone then lightning12ss Most fun bikes to ride I have ever had-still have the XB Erik was ahead of his time
He absolutely was, i love my xb!
Just got my first bike, an xb12x. Onnnnly rode it onnnce and it was like a love at first contacr situation.
I sort of miss my Ulysses. It was a great bike living in the mountains but damn, if you don't have at least a 34 inch inseam it was a reach to the ground. The torque and handling characteristics were great for a twisty road enthusiast though.
When my bikes are cold and its cold out they have very little low end power. Just gotta warm up so the right amount of air gets in. Choke helps.
Is this bike the xb9 or xb12
Xb9
None the wiser from the incoherent 'content'.
Thanks for the kind words! Im striving to have as good of content as you have, oh wait...
Once a bike is shut off it is impossible for it to get any hotter.
Nice bike! Buell motorcycles are really fun to ride! I've had one since 2008 even though it only has 16,500 miles on it. But I still go on some great motorcycle rides here in the south of Brazil. th-cam.com/video/P25UVnrqB8E/w-d-xo.html
I own that same bike in that same color
If you're not floggin it, 100K miles. Easy.
In the market for a new bike. Considering XB12S or FZ/MT09. In terms of overall riding experience which do you enjoy more?
My fz09 is a much more aggressive riding experience. The xb is very well balanced between comfort and performance. That's a tough call for me, i really like having both.
Thanks for the feedback! I think I’m going to pull the trigger on the XB while these things are still in the market with low mileage.
What backpack is that?
Vanguard VEO 46 Discover.
I have had Buell's since 2008, The bike I have had the least problem with is my XB12 Scg. It can be problematic to change the spark plugs but with a small rubber tube over the plug will ease the process getting a new one in place. I do ALL the maintenance myself on very bike I have.
Was your bike fan not working ?
When these bikes were still in production I found Buell was a good brand if you were lucky enough to own it as a second or third bike. But it was lacking in performance as a main bike. I always liked the way the XB9 / XB12S lightning looked.
Yea, they didn't become power houses until the 1125 and 1190s, but the earlier models just have a particular charm to them.
38K on my 2008 1125r. Slouched off the last 5+ years due to kids and work. No issues and lots of smiles.
Man! I miss my Buell! May not be the fastest bikes around, but I loved the sound (Jardine can) and the character! They handle well too.
Had an 09 Buell XB12scg, and man I miss that bike, super fun to ride, tones of caracter with lots of torque......... but not a good bike for someone who wants simplicity and reliability with the ease of maintenance of a Japanese bike, you gotta be really into these bikes for them to be worth it.......... just sayin I now own a z1000
I owned a 2002 X1W and commuted to work for 3 years on it. Mine had race can, K&N intake and dyno tuned made 105hp. Sorry I sold it to pay bills
I bought an 08 XB12 ss 14 years ago and its the best overall bike I ve ever owned in 50 yrs of biking. Its makes me laugh out loud when I am riding it ! Soooo much fun !
we have now two in the family, one 06 Ulysses and now a 06 XB9
🤘
Planning on picking up an S3 in the next couple weeks and riding up to Fond du Lac to surprise my grandma, Might see you on the road!
Nice, man! I love the s3's and s3t's!
Man, you really should increase that idle, they are set at around 1050 rpm, and do a proper TPS reset.
I have, my idle adjuster is fucked.
@@kylehazelton That low idle is not good for the engine. I'm amazed that the oil light doesn't come on. I think that the low power you refer to is the cold oil and low rpm. From a felow BUELL lover (I have a XB12S), you really should increase it to 1050 rpm and do a proper TPS reset. Don't ride her with such low idle.
@motosRAT 👍
@motosRAT Once we get above negative temperatures here, ill plug it into the computer and get back to you about the idle speed because i think you're exaggerating how low my idle is. But to each their own.
@@kylehazelton I'm just speaking from what I can see on your tachometer.
Is the 2002 buell X1 lighting a reliable bike?
If its original and well taken care of, they can be very reliable. Some have converted to carb over the stock fuel injection for more peace of mind. But with most bikes, how it's been maintained is the biggest factor.
Where is this? Looks like tulsa, ok.
Im in Wisconsin
I miss my M2 Cyclone.
Yo, I live near Hamburg, Germany. I used to own a S 3T, but had to sell it when I went overseas for some months, and man, did I miss that scoot! A few weeks ago, I found a M2 on EBay and instantly fell in love. Last weekend, me and my lady took the 200 mile trip by car, picked up the bike, and I rode it home. Me happy? Why, sure! 😊
love your content Kyle, but why is the video quality only 360p today?
Because i dont get enough activity here for TH-cam to prioritize my quality. It takes hours sometimes for 1080p to come through.
@@kylehazelton I didnt realize that its TH-cam that controls that, interesting learned something new today!
@leepierce3256 yea, it's all youtubes doing. 1080p should be available soon. Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for watching!
@@kylehazelton yep its 1080p now
Where in WI are you?
Oshkosh
Awesome video man! We love just watching you ride. The camera quality could be better but, I would watch it regardless. Thank you for the video!! Merry Christmas!
I take the quality comment back! TH-cam didn’t render the 1080p yet. 😂
@@ColdF32 thanks for watching!
Me and Jack race each other with his Ulysses. I call them the Juggernauts 😂
We all know jack is an imaginary character, buell tube frames are tye bees knees
awesome bikes, very reliable, my 03 XB9R has 80k miles on the OD. Also crap loads of parts cross reference to other stuff. They need basic maintenance and not much else
love your content Kyle, just curious have you ever ridden a Ulysses and if so what did you think about it?
Thank you! No i have not, but i plan to get a ride on every model i can. The Ulysses would be my choice if i decided to venture out of town a bit. Thanks for the comment!
@@kylehazelton Im saving to buy one, I have always wanted a Buell, and specifically want the Ulysses. So if I can get one, I would be happy to let you take it for a spin!
@leepierce3256 Ulysses are loved world wide. I will absolutely take you up on that offer if we're ever close. Im actually thinking of ditching this mundane commodity trap and buying an RV to tour the us in. Im still pre infancy stages of this, but it's calling!
@@kylehazelton well I live in North Florida, so I know thats a drive for you, but if it works out and we are ever close I will honor my offer!
Love these bikes. Too bad they're not made any more. Would be nice if Erick would make them again. 2008/09s were awesome bikes. They need a comeback. I for one would buy one or 2. P.S./ If you put money down on that bike & the dealer sells it before you pick it up, they can be sued. Been through that deal before.
Buell motorcycles are in production again. The 1190rx 1190sx are back in production but have absolutely nothing to do with Erik Buell this time around. This new company has been making some foolish decisions (in my opinion) and may not last long. But the opportunity to purchase a brand new EBR 1190 is a reality again. I hope one day this new Buell will have enough sense to throw tons of cash at Erik to bring him back into the picture.
Whoa! 😆 I had to get used to the instant torque too 😆👍
I get it! every time I ride my 06 XB12-X !
Man, you guys have No Traffic. Must be nice. Everybody's trying to run over each other down here all the time. Crazy. Always did like Buells. Was a Buell/Harley dealership 50 miles from my house. But when I inquired about the Buells, was immediately directed to the H.D. line up. After I further inquired about them, the sales guy just left. That's why they didn't do well. Why would dealerships have a product to sell if they feared it? Motorcycles are a different deal. Was getting lots better, then the bottom fell out again. Plus, now, all we got is gov. mandated BS & high pricing.
Everything today is for the benefits of the rich elites at the expense of the consumer. Harley has always been like that though. And the new company just seems to be some rich investment company that had no business taking the rights of Buell like they did, given the direction theyre taking things.
Buell’s are addicting
I have a 05 that my friend built as a track bike. He decided that it would be easier to test drive if it were registered. The registration lists the make as assembled from parts. Asm-pts. The title lists it as home made. It's a really fun bike but I would be afraid to ride in in any other states. It seems to be immune from law enforcement in this state but it probably would be impounded in many others. It has no signal lights, no speedometer or instruments of any kind. It had no mirrors until i put on little bar end mirrors. I have had better motorcycles, faster motorcycles, more refined motorcycles, but it is in my top two for fun.

I'm really happy with my 3 Buells. I have two 2003 XB9S (1 street, one track) and a 2008 1125R. Great handling, super reliable. I never see another one going the other way! If parts are no longer available at the local H-D shop, then eBay is a ready source for everything.
Wow what is that paint job or paint? On your bike I love it! Could you please share much gratitude!
It is a translucent polycarbonate. They offered multiple colors with the translucent plastics
Ever go through the Appleton Area?? I swear I’ve seen you before lol sweet bike! I’m going from a street glide to a buell next season I’m 20 years old still like to go fast the cruiser route ain’t for me😂
I'm at approx. 60,000 Miles on my 2008 XB12Ss. Love it. bought it used with about 45,000 on it. If you have too much backfire it could be leaky intake seals or exhaust leaks. If your idle wanders up and down then likely it's your seals. If you have an aftermarket exhaust, it's good to send the ECM in to IDS Solutions and have them remap it. I love these bikes.
Thanks! I suspect intake seal leak, i have a noise at a very specific constant throttle. Almost sounds like a vibrating whistle noise. Mine is an 03 and i was looking to do the throttle body upgrade, and plan to do seals at that time as well.
@@kylehazelton Easy to test the seals while the engine is running, almost stupid easy (look it up online). Then check your exhaust for black soot possible by welds, that would indicate an exhaust leak, harder to check by the exhaust gaskets. Also, if you have access to your injectors, its a good move to take them someplace that can do an ultrasonic cleaning on them. As for the whistling sound, i would also scrutineer your helmet, unless its at the same RPM every gear. but start with the intake seals first. if you remove the throttle body boot, make sure it's seated when you re-install it, otherwise you'll get a violent cut in power at about 3500 to 4000rpm where the velocity stack gets sucked up against the airbox and cuts off flow.
I can save you 15 mins. YES!
