    Is there much difference between eforce platinum and oxygen string?

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Platinum is monofilament and oxygen is multifilament. Generally, multifilament is preferred in racquetball for its softer feel, possibly slightly higher power, and the ability to see the strings fray as they get closer to breaking. With that said, I think 90% of players probably wouldn't actually feel the difference in how they play in a blind test. I've played both extensively and I generally prefer stringing with cheap string frequently rather than expensive string less frequently (although I have a stringing machine, so...) But generally when people ask me what I recommend, I say "if you have to ask, I'd suggest the cheaper string and just restring more frequently rather than paying +$15 for multifilament". Fresh strings feel like they make a much bigger difference than mono vs. multi (to me).

    I got an E-force Chaos racquet to string. I string 99.9 percent tennis. It kind of looked strange that one side of the 4 tubes was quite a bit higher than the other side of the 4 tubes. What I discovered is that one side is not attached. Is there an way to reattach a group of 4 tubes?

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly the same issue I mentioned at the beginning of this video, and probably not uncommon. I've been careful/lucky it hasn't happened to me yet. But as I understand it if you remove the grip and the metal pin in the handle the tubes can actually come out and you can replace them. How, exactly? I don't know, as I haven't gone through that process. But you'd have to call E-Force directly and see if they can send you the replacement set. Alternatively, you could just use some normal tubing (like I use when grommets are broken) and stretch it out a bit then feed it through the handle. This would alleviate the stress of the string rubbing directly on the base of the handle a bit and keep some of the vibration-reducing properties. Good luck!

    Second question I forgot to ask, do you have to double pull on the mains or is there any particular reason you dont pull tension at the throat of the racket?

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible to pull at the throat of the racquet for some racquetball racquets. But unlike tennis racquets, many racquetball racquets use fan patterns, integrated grommets, power rings, handle tubes, and shared holes at the throat that all can cause various issues. On E-Force racquets for example, since the mains actually come out the bottom of the handle, most machines can't physically pull that far away from the frame (the handle adds about 7-8" extra length before you'd be able to pull the string). Bottom line is, most manufacturers recommend double-pulling, although if you CAN single pull, and are willing to deal with any associated hassle, it might be more accurate to do it that way.

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing! I've never tried ATW in racquetball but will have a look at this pattern and maybe try it on my next Gearbox! I did consider doing 2 piece for these, but there aren't enough shared grommet holes for 6 tie offs (you need 2 extras for the string dampener on Gearbox racquets). So you can easily string 2 piece with a traditional dampener but not with the stock dampener -- thus, your 1-piece method might be a great solution.

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dampener is put in after stringing is otherwise complete. And since you're feeding it through on its own piece of string, you'll need to tie knots on both sides of the frame. But those knots should be pulled by hand, not tensioned by your machine, as the dampener's string does NOT need to be under tension any more than necessary to hold the knots snug.

    Nice to see you make some vids again! Just watched your E-Force video and this one. I heard you mention, and I'd love to see this clothes pin method when dealing with Ektelon racquets with O/Speed Ports so you don't have to use your table brake? I do string myself and would love to start stringing for players in my local community, I have an Alpha Pioneer Machine which is a good machine, I was looking to get the Wise tensioning head to add it to my machine, but the one thing I don't like about my machine and what attracts me to the Gamma X-ST and to do the setup you have is, although mine does have somewhat of a table brake function, it's pretty much a screw underneath the base of the swivel portion of the table, and to "brake" you tighten this screw with an allen wrench.... However they didn't make that very easy, or fun to do, because it's a such a small confined area to reach under there to tighten. So to be doing that and then loosening it every cross string... Big pain. Arrgh. :D

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I haven't had many racquets to string lately but I will try and make a video if/when I get another Ektelon with ports. Basically you can drop a clothespin (old school all-wood style) over a main when pulling crosses on Ektelon ports and it will help maintain the spacing between crosses without the brake. Check out "Stringing Prince Rackiets" on TH-cam (by Mr10sStringer). That guy knows what he's talking about. And I know what you mean about the Alpha braking system -- it's in fact one of the reasons I went with the Gamma machine instead. However, now I almost never use the brake at all (more experienced stringers than myself recommend against it), and the Alphas look like a better overall value!

    • @level27xrock
      @level27xrock 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome thank you very much! I will check out his videos. Any particular reasoning why against using table brake/locking turntable? If I can avoid it then sticking with my machine seems like a good option, it just seems so nice to have that little switch to flip and have it lock in place when I see you do it in your videos, ha!

    • @level27xrock
      @level27xrock 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, pleased to tell you that I am likely to get this same setup you have here with the X-ST and Wise setup thanks to you and your videos as well. To me it looks to be the perfect at home setup that won't break the bank to string for myself and some semi part time volume for others. Although with the price of the two combined that is just around the territory of opting for a Gamma X-ELS, but I would very much prefer the linear puller of the Wise rather than the rotational gripper of the X-ELS. Thanks, and cheers

    • @Luk3d4wG

      @@level27xrock Congrats! Hopefully you have a table to put it on already. Now I kind of wish I had a stand (like a Gamma 6004 or 5003) instead, because they have a smaller overall volume/footprint. Otherwise I've been very happy with it. And I agree about the linear pull, I have no interest in rotational pullers personally.

    • @level27xrock
      @level27xrock 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do! Hoping this will still work out with the X, I looked around for some kind of stand to use for my Alpha initially, and oddly enough Klippermate has this metal stand thing you can buy for their machine for a decent price, and you just plop down your stringer on top, so I got one and been using that the last year and a half on the Alpha. Hoping the X will fit on top of it with no problems, it takes up a little less room than a small table and has the height. But now that I have the option... one of those Gamma stands made to mount underneath the Prog/X machines look pretty sweet...

    Do you ever have trouble mounting racquetball frames on your 6-pt mounting system? I'm in the market for a machine and am torn between a 6-pt Gamma and a Prince Neos 1000

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem, although occasionally I need to get creative with the bottom middle mounting point. Here's the thing: people seem to agree the Neos 1000 is a workhorse machine, and its mounting system is great for rball racquets. The issue I have with that machine is that I'm not comfortable with the inflexible clamp angles for rball racquets. Most racquetball racquets have a somewhat fanned string pattern (taper towards the bottom), so being limited by 90 degree angles with the Neos means you'll be introducing slight tension inaccuracies which isn't a tradeoff I'm willing to make. I'll take more accurate tension over easier mounting. For tennis where strings are generally not fanned, Neos 1000 looks great to me. A machine like the Gamma X-St or 604 do have 2 point mounting options as well.

      @@jnhanson75 One thing about the lower-level ELS models -- they use an electronic tensioner, but it's a rotary system. I'd actually prefer the linear pulling system of the Wise 2086. I'd suggest considering a Gamma 6004 and a wise tension head (or an Alpha Axis Pro/Apex Speed). Alternatively, the ELS 7xxx or 8xxx or 9xxx appear to include a built-in linear head. But be careful that those machines support racquetball-size frames. I looked seriously at the Alpha Ghost a few years ago, which is actually a really good value, but it lacks support for some of the longer racquetball frames.

But one I could not mount (too long) so I did it on the Neos and when 1 goes to 5 impossible to use floating clamps. Yeah I know what you mean. I played RB two to four times a week and was getting lousy expensive restrings so I decided to get my own stringer. My knees gave out a few years ago and I had to give up, but I still string for the young guys. Sure miss playing, I loved it.

    Can you do any of the modern HEAD racquetball racquets? It's a total mind boggle how the strings don't go outside of the frames for the crosses! 🤔🤨

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've done a number of them (although I don't know that I'll be posting a video any time soon, not sure yet). Basically you pull tension under or over the frame (rather than through the hole) and clamp as normal. Alternatively, what I've been doing lately is pulling the string through the internal grommet and pulling tension over the opposite side of the frame. This puts less direct strain on the strings but more strain on the internal grommet hole. I'm not sure which method is better...

    Hey Luke what string are you using? Which do you like the best for racquetball?

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It says right in the video -- Dunlop 17g Synthetic Gut. I was mostly using it because it was one of the few I could get in that color at 17g. For racquetball in general, I find that for 95% of players, pretty much any 17g synthetic gut works just fine (over a more expensive multifilament). I'd contest that only the top players (or extremely picky) will actually feel a difference. I recommend most people change their string more frequently instead of using a more expensive string. I've played with a variety of strings myself (since restringing labor is free!) and always come back to synthetic gut. Generally, I use 17g Gosen OG-Sheep Micro (black) when the customer doesn't have a preference. I find it easy to string with, relatively long lasting, and I like that it's made it Japan over China (whether this actually makes a difference, I don't know).

    Is there any particular reason why you didn't mention skipping the holes from the bumper set and the grommet set during the crosses process at the top of the frame?

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not entirely sure I understand what you mean. Are you talking about for helping to hold down the gaps between the upper and lower sets of grommets? I rarely do that. Most patterns don't call for it, and I think it looks messier unless the grommets are tending to stick up for some reason.

  • @craigcraig248
    @craigcraig248 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you suggest doing the O3 White with only flying clamps? It seems the W pattern at the beginning wouldn't be possible to get through easily.

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For most people the pull that I do at the beginning is totally unnecessary. It just serves to to increase accuracy slightly because at no point are you running a piece of untensioned string through a tightened clamp. In all honesty, I don't think you'd notice any difference if you did it a different way. I also think there's no way in heck I'd string my own racquets if I had to do so with flying clamps! Priority 1 for me would be to save up for fixed clamps if possible =)

    • @craigcraig248
      @craigcraig248 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just attempting my first stringing with a new machine which only has flying clamps and following the official stringing pattern for the O3 White and quickly saw it may not be possible without fixed clamps. I guess I will just make up a new stringing pattern where flying clamps can work.

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely can't say how to do it "correctly" with flying clamps. They seem to make everything a little more challenging--you'll have to just practice/research and figure out the best way for you!

    • @Luk3d4wG

      Yeah, all the newer models use the double plastic bars. It's quieter and easier to insert straight; probably a better design overall now. Of course, metal just seems more durable, though...

    Pretty cool. I strung my Ektelon Ex03 Black myself which has a very similar string pattern and racquet design. I didn't do the mains though in that order as when you started.. what book are you looking at with instructions? Does it have instructions for a lot of other racquets? Did that come with your stringer?

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a USRSA Digest. It comes with a paid membership to the US Racquet Stringers Association, but you can buy them on some stringing forums from other people who don't need them. I think mine was about $30.

    • @level27xrock
      @level27xrock 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very cool. If I had a more variety of racquets I'd look into that but I love my EX03 blacks so much and I now know the main sequence thanks to your vid. I'm looking for a new stringer too, what model and brand is yours? Is it for racquetball racquets specifically? Or can do tennis racquets as well?

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine is a Gamma X-ST with an aftermarket electronic tension head (Wise 2086). There are no stringing machines made specifically for racquetball -- they are pretty much all made primarily for tennis, and most of them will do racquetball as well. What you get depends on floor space and budget. I think the Gamma Progression STII or X-ST or Alpha Revo 4000 are great starting machines if you're putting them on a table like me. If you want a machine on its own stand, I'd recomment a Gamma 6004. Either way, they're a big investment out of the gate so you might also want to consider how many other people you could string for. And personally, I wouldn't want to string on a machine that uses a drop-weight for tensioning, so I'd expect to spend $500+ on any machine I chose, unless I found a good used one.

    • @level27xrock
      @level27xrock 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a pretty nice setup with the after market electronic tensioner. I have an old school klippermate with the drop weight which .. gets the job done, but maybe I can just look into getting an after market tensioner like that one and make some sort of hybrid like yours. Thanks again for all the advice

    • @Luk3d4wG
      @Luk3d4wG 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem! I believe there might be an adapter that can make the Wise 2086 work with certain dropweight machines (not sure, you'd have to call Wise). But honestly, I'd focus more on getting a nice crank machine with fixed clamps first. Flying clamps/dropweight setups, while cheap, leave a lot to be desired in terms of speed, accuracy, and convenience! =) Good luck!

      Sorry, thought I replied to this already. You are 100% correct; this was NOT meant to be an instructional video. I just did a few of these to show a few customers what the process looks like, and I just kind of talked to myself while I did the videos to fill some blank space, and no editing/prep work for the videos. Definitely not good for any random person learning to string these racquets.
