    I have been embroidering for many years now, self taught and always used basic stitches and knots. I agree that they are less off-putting. Now I’m exploring other stitches and ways of securing the thread. However I have never thought to thread the needle like you just did! Genius! So annoying trying to poke every strand through the eye…

    Thank you for this video, I found it relatable and most helpful, particularly the advice about Pinterest. Long since decided that Meta cares not a jot for creatives, their censorship and AI policies are proof of that. So I treat Insta as a shop window, a place where folk can peruse and should they wish to pop their head in the door to find out more, happy days. I don’t care about follower numbers, instead trust that your vibe attracts your tribe. This year I intend to focus on my website and subscribers, and introduce Patreon linked to TH-cam. Build a wee community for folk genuinely invested in my art. When it comes to social media, it’s a tool in the kit but prefer to control the narrative rather than have Meta dictate how my business operates. Lastly, I thoroughly enjoyed watching you stitch 🪡

    Really great both yours and your moms methods for storing images. Sometimes I collect images on my desktop full of screen shots in a named by theme folder. I love color also and let it guide me in a creative decision making process. I'll quite often draw on paper an idea and fit other images around it; but mostly love to start with any image i want to explore and get roughly down on a canvas. then see what images i see within the paint. While painting a woman's neck I saw a necklace, an owl with it's wings outstretched and a procession of faces of ancestors all arising by mixing color on the canvas, sometimes letting it drip, and sometimes just studying it with a completely relaxed and open mind as to what was wanting to come through. Sometimes the best work comes thru by looking at it each day and suddenly after a week something more will say add this or change that and following intuition. Playing!

    Fantastic! I enjoyed so much. Loved your sources. Never even heard of google reverse images so thank you. I like to immerse my self in a subject recently mine was Egyptian Goddesses. Read, Watch, Explore lectures and videos, What tangents does it stir up and follow that immersion too. Just saturate and slowly but surely ideas will start to pop when not trying to force myself to create. It is a tender process and works best in an atmosphere of trust and belief! I'm subscribing now! Thank you for inspiring me!

    With much love ,I leave this message.❤I was wondering on the knot debate. I think whatever you feel like but i was wondering which method would be best to make your embroidery last longer with or without. I do a few differant ways. But its nice to read opinions.

    • @thefabledthread
      @thefabledthread 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So personally, I believe the type of knot you use mostly depends on what the use is for the piece. For anything which you are going to mount at the end and frame (ie it is going to experience very little use or contact), then it really doesn’t matter which knot method you use. I find a knot quicker and easier so I use that. One a piece is mounted, everything is locked in place and that knot is not going to budge. If you are doing embroidery which is something like clothing or a functional item like a cushion, then you will want to make sure your knot is more secure as there is more chance that threads will be snagged. I think the safest in this scenario is to use an even number of strands and do a loop method to start your stitching. Throughout my work I tend to stitch on fabrics with a tight weave in which case knots are very secure - if you have a looser weave fabric then there is more chance a knot will pull through so I would use a loop method. But honestly - I don’t believe there should be fixed rules and I don’t think whichever method you choose makes a difference. I think it’s all about how you enjoy the process best and for me personally, I have never enjoyed the waste knot method so don’t use it - I find it a bit of a faff! So I just wouldn’t overthink these things - your embroidery lasting years is far more likely to be determined by how you store it, if you use an anti-uv glass when framing, the wear it experiences, and the quality of the threads you used in the first place!

    Knots in embroidery are a big NO NO.

    • @thefabledthread
      @thefabledthread 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jc-nj6kf I beg to differ! I have knots on the back of all my pieces and you would never know! I believe these strict rules like “no knots”, the “traditional” ways of doing things put a lot of people off embroidery. It is a free form craft and should be enjoyed however the maker chooses. If you prefer to use loop methods then that’s great and glad you have a method you enjoy. It’s not my preference though! My granny is 101 and has been stitching for 96 years of those. She learnt the traditional way but about 70 years ago decided to start using knots and has done ever since. Whatever makes you happy!

      It seems like we are having the chief police of embroidery in the room! Unfortunately, you’re one thread away from being fired! Knots are not the devil. They are part of the repertoire you can use them or not if you please. I prefer waste knots for garments and this here method for decorative purposes but who cares. Let’s have fun, let’s be creative

They go hand in hand. No worries tho! We All have off days, it happens to the best of us. Just going Willy nilly with no rhyme or reason isn’t ideal click bait but a few points on an overall topic is well enough. As long as you’re excited about what you’re sharing it will translate to your audience fine & dandy.

    Mixing paint is just as simple as mixing your cut outs. Just start with small amounts in a plate 🍽️ & swirl. Also if you go with good quality acrylic paints for the motifs you’ll find there are endless color options to choose from in comparison and will last as long as the piece does especially with a top coat of sealer.

    Hi Eppie, I like to use Procreate in such instances when in doubt with a painting for example. I take a photo and import it into Procreate. Then on top of it I can experiment as much as I want - with scale, placement, colour etc. This might save some time in instances like this when in doubt 😊
