So if there are 3 cowboys in the. Front of apickup truck.whos the real cowboy?(the one in the middle,1st dont have to drive, and doesnt have to open the gates....)
They call them drugstore cowboys.
Some species cycle, mass birth for so many years then hardly any. Few years back again .
Incredible story. Surprised this podcast doesn’t have more popularity.
Damn, i remember hearing about this story. I'm in Texas and always have a firearm on me. I wish in California that was the same. Maybe the kid that was attacked would have made it out alive. I have seen a mountain lion but just letting off a round in the dirt scares them away pretty easy.
I wish they asked about his wife and kids.
Man! What a great conversation! Legend
So interesting and glad there’s hope for quail
You could just use a VPN so your point of online presence is in Arizona. Adds another layer to the discussion I think. Get with the times, Arizona!
I witnessed a friend drown in a rafting accident. Survivors guilt haunted me for years, it made no sense and I knew it but it persisted. Love to this family. Time will heal even this.
Woohoo meateater kids!!!
His mistake is believing in scentlok. He refuses to believe that his no wind approach works simply bc he hunts 35-40 feet high. Hence approaching bucks within 75 yards cannot smell him as his scent blows over them. There use to be a graph made that shows this. It’s all mathematics!
That shit is awesome
One of my favorite episodes! Matt has a great sense of humor, had me laughing so much! His quit wit was spot on!!
If youre a game warden and you're off work and hear a gunshot...its not your problem. And if you let it get to you that bad you need to reevaluate your life.
So just say you’re a poacher and move on dude. law enforcement officers are on duty 24/7 that’s part of their job description ALSO ever heard of the saying “if you hear/see something say something” keeps honest people safe and dishonest people in jail. Sounds like you fit into the latter
When can we download this song? And whats the name and artist?
They have made a decent comeback in Kentucky in my lifetime the quail that is
A lot of the problem with Quail populations is the red imported fire ant. Quail are ground nesting birds that can't defend themselves against the fire ant when the chicks are born. I have seen baby rabbits that were covered in fire ants and the quail is no different. Since fire ant populations have increased the small game populations have decreased.
Great episode, Matt is an amazing guy. Love this podcast, could listen to Steve and all the amazing guests all day every day.
I agree they talked more about the hats than bobwhites
When I was a kid in northern in youcould pointinany direction and you could here Bob whites not any more what the he'll happend
pesticides if they kill birds you know they want hurt you when you eat the food that been spray on them
I would enjoy watching him on a hunt with Steve. Please take him on a hunt.
Until hearing protection fits like its not there, sounds like its not there, and doesn't kill my ability to tell what direction a sound comes from, and is affordable then suppressors are good.
Nothing better than a good sense of humor to go about live! Great dude! God bless him!
Matt is one of the best guests I have heard on this podcast. He has a personality that overshadowed the hosts, pretty rare.
I’m from Southern California and we got mountain lions down here for sure but I’ve also spent time living up in Bozeman Montana and Homer, Alaska and moose grizzly bear, Elk, wolves are all wildlife that can end a life.
One thing you will never beat is a deer’s nose. His eyes and his ears you can. But if a deer is downwind it doesn’t matter what you do they will smell you
Silencers are not silent. They do reduce that harsh snap that does damage hearing. They also ADD length to a barrel. As I have gotten older I prefer a shorter barrel, unless I am in structure blind. Nothing ruins a hunt like swinging a barrel only to be stopped by an errant branch. Not all of us are in hunting clubs, or have mega bucks to go on a major hunt. So, I guess I am in the group that want 14 inch barrels with 4 inch suppressers.
I love how warden put it look at it this way you are your own referee in the outdoors spot on
Duck man
Anyone who has shot with a suppressor understands that a suppressor does make a firearm silent. It does however save the hunters ears from the report of the firearm. So with that said maybe new laws should considered concerning the suppressor laws. In reality it is just a money grab from the federal government, Amen 🙏
I pray in silence for the family to heal and may peace return in your lives. It is a struggle - We lost our son when he was 25 - it takes years for the healing process to begin. And you can never forget that the natural order has been broken. Remain strong…. It is difficult but the love between you all will always be your mortar keeping your spirits filled with hope. God’s Blessings
There’s a few MeatEater podcasts that I watch or listen to that afterwards I smile ear to ear and tear up a bit. This is one of them. God I love this life.
Get it together, all the interruptions made this story wack. Steven’s annoying as
Let the man talk and quit bitshin about the bear spray Steven Rinella… smh y’all are annoying Let the man talk
IOWA BOYS! CORN FED!
God bless this family.
The guy poaching in Idaho will get away with a hand slap if he's involved in politics. Most DNR guys are not passionate outdoorsman, they just use it as a vessel to further their career. Prosecuting a lobbyist would not further his career.
Fire ants!!!
This idiot can suck on all my 140+ Arkansas deer, 120 record? I'll take him seriously when he scratches his own ass.
When i was an apprentice i worked with this old dude that had two rules. Rule #1 “I’m always right. “ Rule #2 even when im wrong im right. That cleared up a lot of potential issues that might have found occasion to arise.
this guy needs a hand
Steve please forward this guy to Rogan.
GOD BLESS
Check out videos of Ray Livingston in Elk, Washington. He has a lot of Cougar knowledge & suggests a Cougar calling kit he uses. And he likes their meat. He does predator control.
Wow. Thank you, Meateater for introducing me to this guy. I'm a hunter and a drag racer. Didn't see that coming. What a great story. Matt has good/profitable future in speaking to groups/companies. His apotive family is a real gem. Great episode. Thanks.
mexico on a moto bike? dont ride at night, dont look for drugs and hookers. You'll be just fine.
I originally commented by telling a mtn lion story. Then he started telling his story. Years ago I lost my brother in the woods one day. He was 16 and I was 19. There are no words to explain the emotions going thru something like that but I know exactly how he feels just by the sound in his voice. It's a memory that plays like a movie on repeat. Hang in there man. Surround yourself with the right people and you'll be okay. He'll be with you always.
Arkansas taking random shots. 😢
