    He is going to make that horse hate the halter it would have been better had its experience been only positive. I think the guy needs to work as a groom in a barn to learn more. Or take a course in stable management.

    After spending years of my life sharing Amish discarded breeders and puppy mill dogs and their discarded driving and work horses I don't have nothing for them! And while it may not be all of them, when you see horses with years old marks from bridles and else... that tells enough! And to add to it: the many drafts spend days without food and water in tiny shipping containers because Japanese like 'fresh meat.. Or the days long trips with 35 horses stuffed into livestock trailers to be slaughtered in horrible ways in Mexico! Or donkeys live-shipped on container ships to Asia for their skins.. When the Amish stop filling kill shelters and kill pens with their discarded animals, I may learn to respect them!

    Not sure he really spooked at a little before the 18 minute mark. He could have as the dog entered his field of view but, to me, he just looked a little fresh and had a burst of energy. He arched his neck and kinda jumped instead of tucking his tail and fleeing. Just my opinion but either way you handled it well by getting him calmed down then proceeding. He's a very nice young horse and I'm impressed the way you are starting him easy, keeping it fun, and letting him grow. Hell remember these lessons when you begin working him again.

    just a tip here, the liverpool without a curb chain is no different than the snaffle you were using before. The liverpool is a curb bit and the leverage comes from the curb chain. Hildy looks like she got more standardbred than draft. Could be why she is so quick to go. I've had two runaways. Never get out of the cart. Never bail out.

    • @ruggedridgeforest7775
      @ruggedridgeforest7775 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have heard that about the chain and I believe you are right. Although the liverpool w/out the chain does offer additional leverage. Its also a straight bit which alone is more severe than a snaffle. That said, the curb chain would add. As far as staying with the run away... there comes a moment when a collision is inevitable and youve done all you can. Many have died in such circumstances. Risking being crushed by a spreader or slammed in between the horses and the cart were not worth being apart of when I had offered all the input I could and the outcome was inevitable

    Bro this is some rugged shit right here. I've been trying to document our sugaring up here in the Adirondacks because it's such an amazing process. I love seeing the horses involved, we used to haul our sap with horses pre-1970s but have used a dozer since. It would be cool to try to revive that method since we still have horses, but we'll see. Thanks for the inspiring video.
