Fated Mates is a weekly romance novel podcast co-hosted by bestselling author Sarah MacLean and romance critic Jen Prokop. Clip: Elda Minger talks about the world before Roe, when abortion was neither safe nor legal.
Listen to the full episode: th-cam.com/video/FikKWMDJLNs/w-d-xo.html
Elda Minger was the first romance novelist to put condom use on the page. When we spoke to her about the choice she made, she told us about the realities of the world before Roe, when abortion was neither safe nor legal. This remains one of the most powerful conversations we’ve had on Fated Mates, and we are so lucky that Elda came to talk to us.
As we watch women die throughout the country in the wake of draconian abortion bans, we hope you’ll listen to Elda, and make a plan to vote for this Tuesday.

Curvy Heroines #3: Curvy Girls Get Railed in Carriages, Too
Ah, Harlequin Romances. My first taste in "erotica" ! LOL
The social importance of the romance genre, especially for women and young women is crucial! You could have an entire show about that topic.
We have an entire show about that! fatedmates.net 😃
Thank you so much for posting this.
I read them in 2013, I was a junior in high school.
You said "we are trying very hard to get Kamala Harris" and I thought you were going to finish with "on this podcast" 🤣
Someday!
My first ever lovely trashy 1980 romance was a kidnapping plot. Heroine was the typical waifish innocent who was corrupted by Laird after he'd kidnapped her. Just absolutely madness plot. I think there was a war? She was the daughter of his enemy? Maybe they went to France inexplicably? The sex scene blew my mind. It was rapey (ew now), but I think it was the first time I read anything about someone orgasming and riding the high like an eagle above it all. I may have written some trash story in the 90s that totally stole that scene. Thank god my computer crashed and I lost the files.
I love this series so much!! Recently read it 💚
I love everything about this ❤😊
Can I just say you are very boring, I wanted to hear something on mafia books not your boring life and house you lived in. Listen to this again and think if you are achieving your goals on the podcast.
I just found your channel... and I'm hooked. I have read this book so many times over the years and you two have nailed it! Thank you!!!
Glad you found us. Glad you love the book!
Chris was the BEST Clark Kent, shy, clumsy, nerdy, who would've thought this guy is Superman? I love Henry to death but as Clark he's still a steaming hot dude with glasses
I don't think you can underestimate the importance of Mary Jane Wells as the narrator of many of Lisa Kleypas books. She makes the narrator an essential character in this novel.Several
In _An Unsuitable Heir_, K.J. Charles uses he pronouns for the non binary protagonist, because of the time period it's set in; the two leads have a conversation, and the reason for the non binary character is, "I'm not a she nor an it, and he at least causes no trouble" (meaning, with other people) ...and of course it was mentioned just after I wrote that comment. Sorry!
Hmmm you comment that you didn’t think paranormal were on the downswing then. I didn’t think they were any less popular now. But then, maybe I’m stuck in my genre. I agree though JAK rules. That said, I just re-read Slave to Sensation for the 3rd (4th?) time and yes, it does feel special. Thanks Nalini
Just now listening to this and....yes, I'll marry Winterborne. And the whole, "everything he does is romantic"? oh god, YES. The best case of "by his actions you'll know him" (mangling everything) Lady Berwick: I will never understand how she would push the Ravenel girls so hard to marry for "security", when that's what she did, and she's now essentially waiting to be at the mercy of an asshole, who runs through money like it's water. Like. Why discourage Pandora from true security and independence? (different book, but you know) Helen: can you imagine growing up with a family of strong-willed, passionate and loud people, and not only being quiet and introverted, but also knowing you are the changeling in midst? and that after having your mother dismiss you all your life (I'm sure "rabbit-faced" wasn't just written in a letter somewhere) Talk about trauma on top of insecurity.
What's funny
Just in case you guys check comments, on the comment about Fitz and Isabelle possibly having or not done the deed, I'd like to say this is made clear in the novella A Dance in Moonlight which is a very funny, unexpected continuation following Isabelle. Oh, and: no, they never had sex!
Great post!
This so fantastic. Derek forever! BTW - 3 comments? Common people. Also, FM, hype your channel. Love you guys. I've come back to romance after a 20-year hiatus and love your podcast and Patreon. You are hysterical and the BEST!
Mr. Craven says: I trust you wiv my life and you Rickroll me? Wovvy ain’t strong enow to hold me back now, luv.
Love it!!! Happy Derek Craven Day. 🎉
Love this clip. Christopher Reeve was perfection as Superman. And it plays so sincere, too, that a man afraid of nothing else is emotionally vulnerable and feels unworthy of the woman he loves. And that makes us love him all the more.
This is fascinating. I have been reading both romance and fantasy since I was 10 and now I write my own high fantasy romance novels, but I only came across JR Ward with one of her wolven black dagger brotherhood offshoots back in March 2022. It was alright, didn't love it but didn't hate it. Then in Nov 2023 I decided to start at the very beginning with Dark Lover and I just finished #13 in the series because I am HOOKED. Yes, the character names are laughable and the jealousy/alpha male tropes are predictable but I am so impressed by how she weaves in all the subplots as well as all the emotional trauma processing for the characters. That's what really gets me
I’ve loved your books from the first. I have recommended your books to everyone who what are you reading now.
Christine Feehan's Carpathians was the vampire series that got me hooked. I read IAD and BDB around the same time. I'm still reading it and some of the related books, but those first few books were so, so, good!
I loved Lisa Valdez two books but for some reason she did not finish her trilogy. Does anyone know why she did not finish the third book?
I think Olivia Dade's "Ship Wrecked" belongs here 😉
Hello Ladies! There is a first chapter audio book at the end of this episode. Plz share the author and name of that book! I'm hooked❤
It's Pippa Grant's The Gossip and the Grump! Glad you like it!
I LOVE PIPPA! Thanks for your reply:) Love your show!!@@FatedMates
Im so angry at myself for not finding this video earlier. Im writing this comment while listening. I think im about to enjoy this podcast. Bye2 real world
What a pleasure to hear Vincent Virga speak. I bought the original paperback of Gaywyck from a grocery store in 1980. When I traveled to NYC in the 90s, I found Donough Gaylord's house on Gramercy Park one wet Sunday morning, when the streets were empty and silent. There was no mistaking it. I felt as though I'd stepped into a novel. I would very much like to see a tastefully dramatised miniseries.
This book has been my all time favorite book. In 2005 I wrote a glowing review online or sent her an email telling her how much I enjoyed it, and the author sent me a signed copy of the book which I cherished. I'm still so brokenhearted that the quartet series has not been completed.
Is it "Graupel"? That's german for a kind of small hail, rain-snow-ice so to speak.
Yes! That's it!
Great episode. Another great book with a teacher is In a Jam by Kate Canterbary. The heroine is a Kindergarten teacher who moves to a small town and starts relief teaching in different grades in a local school and is tutoring the hero's niece.
Thanks for sharing!! We haven't read that one, but Sarah really loved The Worst Guy!!
@@FatedMates I loved The Worst Guy, but I fell head over heels for In a Jam. The audiobook is fantastic as well.
Macallister x Sophie for life. I goes through 3 books just to reach him and time definitely well spend
This whole series SLAPS, right? ugh so good.
How did I miss that my favorite podcasters had a TH-cam channel? How? So excited.
Your desire for a Mr & Mrs Smith but gay novel made me think of AE Wasp's Pros & Cons series. Not spies, quite, but a whole Leverage-but-gay series.
Thanks for the rec?
Um SUBSCRIBED! Loved this chat with Sarah J Maas! All of you guys were great and I enjoyed every minute of it!

I just read Genuine Lies, and I NEED it to be a movie
Feb. 4?

I came here because I saw Georgie all along as a book of the month pick ❤
Welcome! It's the best!!!
This is the wackiest, most delightful, most bonkers FM episode EVER.
The best compliment!

This was amazing! I really enjoyed this and, as a writer, especially loved listening to Sarah talk about her writing and perspective as a writer.
Glad you enjoyed it!
