Yamaha Custom 82Z Tenor G1 vs V1 Neck Showdown
มุมมอง 7K6 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm playing a black lacquer Yamaha 82Z tenor with the stock G1 neck and a solid silver V1 neck. I think the silver neck has a more refined sound, but the stock neck has a more aggressive tone. I'm using a Roberto's Winds reed with a Otto Link 9* Florida STM No USA.
VLOG #5 My Jr Walker Tune Demo
มุมมอง 1007 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a kind of rough demo of a tune I wrote as an homage to Jr Walker. He was a great saxophonist in in my opinion one of the last great innovators. He had a incredibly strong rhythmic sense. I'm gong to be recording this next week with a live rhythm section. I'll post some pictures and video from the session. I was trying to capture his exuberance and I also threw in some multi-phonics like...

VLOG #3 New Jazz Groove with Reason 9.0 & Tenor Sax
มุมมอง 1027 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm working on some new music. This is a quick demo of a chord progression I'm working on. I was practicing improvising over the changes and the groove. I used Reason. 9.5 along with Garageband and an Audio Technica AT 2020. I'm not much of an expert when it comes to Reason but it's pretty easy to use. The drum loop is from Loop Loft.

Some player I know told me "that I scoop," he really hated my sound. What do I do? He also made fun of my horn because it "wasn't vintage." I started playing in my late 20's and worked all the time raising my family. I never had a lesson before.
Nice! Thanks for autumn gift!
You are to over the place to tell a difference. I nice jazz piece in both necks. So we can really tell. As your playing is fantastic.
I had a hard time telling the difference but overall the g1 had a more robust tone and seemed more pleasant, less buzzy
Very, Very nice!!
Sweet
bravo ..
Beautiful Jeff👍
Nice groove great blues jazz feel. Reminds of the old cool days of the 60's and early 70's. Great job.
Eloquent sax/organ/vibes rethink. Jeff really lives these notes.
really hard to tell. maybe I like the G1 better
Ahhh yeah👍👍👍
Pure class..tone is amazing 👍👍👍
Super!!
Thanks!
Absolutely super!!! Love it!
Thanks for listening!
Great sound, hands down. Before talking about the necks: I love the way you bend from above (particularly noticeable in "The very thought of you makes my heart sing..."). It's almost like you picture the centre being mid-way whereas I have always pictured it being 75% up (make sense?). Anyway, it's given me something to think about embouchure-wise for my own sound. I have an 875 with a G1 neck and have heard the 875 (never tried a Z) is darker, but you get a great sound on the Z. Like many others, I think the V1 is bright (not as nice to my ear). It sounds a little more free-blowing (am I wrong?), but the tone is not as "jazz" as the G1.
Hi Thanks for checking it out. With tuning I pay close attention to how certain singers approach their intonation.I like the ones that are more fluid and will kind of deliberately push a note in and out of tune as they hold it out. I particularly like Etta Jones ( not to be confused with Etta James, although I like her too), all the great jazz singers do this. I like Joe Williams too.
@@jeffhackworth Cheers Jeff. I had a solid listen to Etta after your reply. My wife's a singer, and we both really enjoyed listening + the parallel of a tenor player and singer couple playing together for years wasn't lost on us either.
Great story. Im guitar player and just started transcribe some easy solos (after some years of playing). My first took me like 1hour (2 min very easy solo on sax). I think after 1-2 year of transcript week by week it will be much more easy. Also this help extend my solos ideas! Do you think writing down transcribted notes on sheet its good for someone whos amateour? Or just stick with only transcribt? Regards Luke
Absolutely fantastic 👍
Wow.. Sounds amazing. One of my favourite Doors songs.. Very well executed Jeff
So true..
Excellent lesson Jeff
Brilliant 👍
I was thinking Stan before I read the synopsis below.. Very Stan but Jeff too👍👍🎷 altissimo is screaming🎷🎷👍
jay douglas Yes I have always been a big Stanley fan.
Very tasty Jeff.. Only found your channel this morning.. Great stuff 👍👍
jay douglas thanks for checking it out. I’m going to put some new stuff up soon.
Man... you have a great tone no matter... Congrats! Definitively, two different horns when you play with this or that neck -- I like the original G1 better -- warmer, darker, velvetier, or maybe more "you". The V1 is more open, focused, and bright. Maybe it is the fact that it is solid silver made. I play a Yamaha YAS62 alto with a Selmer 80a neck and the result is excellent. Now I am trying to see what neck fits better for my YTS62/G1 neck. Thank you for the video!
Nice. Houston is another tone monster!!!
Excellent Jeff. Love your tone and phrasing!
760Piper thanks!
Nice Jeff. Good to see you uploading again.
760Piper thanks!
Yeah that V1 sounds great.
Thanks, Jeff. I agree; it's a great interview with Joe and Sco'. And no one wants to believe all the painstaking, repetitive, time consuming and, yes, painfully focused work it takes to learn how to arrange, compose, or improvise well. Unfortunately, it doesn't just happen by magic or wishful thinking.
Beautiful sound on both. I think the Z is a little brighter in tone overall than the 875 due to the Z being less weight (ribs, bell brace, walls, ... all play a factor) and so the Z resonates more. The G1 neck has a really great sound, more contemporary, rock, modern, ... The silver V1 neck does give a slightly more traditional 'vintage' sound quality. Both necks seem to speak very well from the bell notes to the altissimo range with clarity and equality in volume. Neither seems to 'choke' off the upper notes. You sound fantastic on both and I found it very enjoyable to listen to you play through both necks. This is a total personal preference on your part. Either way, that Yamaha sounds incredible.
Silver!!! Really even
G1 a little bit bright, but I 'not say that V1 gives very wide and rich tone.....Difference in sound not more....
Lovely tone!!!!
Agreed. Still sounds great though. Not a big fan of the Yamaha's as they tend to be too bright for me but you sound great.
