Day trading and welding from around the globe.
These days my primary means of income is from day trading, however, I have a 25 year history as a professional welder.

Welding off an inverter
Trying to weld with my batteries instead of house power. It almost works. As long as you are only doing small TIG tacks it works. No long welds or any high amperage stuff. Be safe!

Helper, fitter, welder all in one because the company doesn’t understand your job
A welder in Minnesota was killed recently trying to fix a leaky old steel pontoon . The owner had tried sealing it up it by filling it with spray foam expanding insulation , which didn't work , but did provide the perfect fuel , in an enclosed , contained environment to create a massive pipe bomb ! Be careful , guys . Don't torch- cut steel oil drums right ? Everybody knows that . But a pontoon ? I never would have suspected THAT !!! I was told by the Fire Marshall that the initial arc strike initiated a high-speed burn from the rear all the way through towards the bow . Centered . Only about 5 or 6" diameter . The resulting overpressure shock wave though , came rocketing back , blowing the ass end apart instantly and decapitated the poor guy .
Yes we need to be extremely careful when cutting into an unknown pressure vessel! If you’re unsure of anything just purge it or cold cut by some method.
Nice work pal, 👍
@@DazFab_Metalworks thanks
Looks tidy👍

The guy sounds like an ass!
Yep. He was very sure to tell about his nuclear certs and how he welded in the world welding competition and all that.
Contaminated that whole acid bottle ;)
@@G5Hohn it was ruined acid to start with.
I couldn’t find my little dropper thing. I’ll try to do it the right way if I ever get the stuff replenished. It’s something I never use or need. So it’s not a big deal
Interesting and shows how looks can deceive! If you do an acid etching on the side profile it will show exactly where the weld is versus the base material (usually). I always find those neat.
@@_droid I have acid in the door pocket of my truck, was actually going to do this for an additional video. I’ll try to get that sometime soon
Well, stay tuned a little longer, my acid solution was mixed way too diluted ( by myself) It shows a very very slight change in the metal but not fantastic for video. I’ll do better 🙄
@@swankwelding I don't know if you've seen Greg's video but that's where I learned about doing it. th-cam.com/video/8Pd01iqCpQk/w-d-xo.html
what were the sun glasses for ?
@@johnbower well, i walked inside from outdoors and had them on … they are also safety glasses to protect my eyes… i have a medical condition that also contributes to my light sensitivity and i will inadvertently be having sunglasses on while indoors without realizing it. So basically i was just wearing some sunglasses … 😎
What a dumb ass question. Surprised OP wasted his time with answering. Now I'm Surprised I'm wasting my time speaking of him wasting his time on your initial dumb ass comment. Actually, maybe it was your goal to waste our time responding to a dumbass comment. Congrats sir, tip of the hat to ya.

It lasted 80 years...obviously it was good enough the application.
@@jamespelkey9609 they got lucky for 80 years. One good undermining or substantial ground shift and loss of support they would have been dealing with a problem. But yep, it lasted 80 years… good enough I guess
Lmao, i was really hoping for some groundbreaking technique or smt 😭
@@Sustainerz unfortunately there’s really nothing new! Same ole technique. Good root , no inclusions, full cap with no undercut… that’s the only way! lol 😂
Should've had a real helper
@@sundromajor9642 well… yeah for some reason this company believes it’s not important to have a helper…. They have no clue how things really work and don’t understand that it takes 4 times as long doing everything by yourself. But that means I have plenty of work to do and will get paid a lot longer $$$ haha
haha I did something similar when I was doing plumbing. every time the inspector came out I would paperclip $40 to one of the pages of the permit and plans. even if there was an issue he would pass it knowing I would go back and fix any problems he found.

Need a Hydrovac
@@monkybit6935 you’d never keep up with an entire neighborhood of streets flooding the excavation. 4 “ of rain in an hour. Good thing it only lasted 1 hour…
I was asking myself why someone would be electric arc welding in the middle of a river. I worked as a carnival ride operator for years so I've seen some sketchy s***. I've personally done some sketchy stuff. Like standing on the tips of forklift forks in the rain at night, elevated at the forklifts max, to remove the aluminum cap from large umbrella/bench canopies, while my boss was chewing away at his methed up lips behind the controls of the forklift. If OSHA would have asked me where my my breakaway was at that time of my life i would have asked what that is. I had to drink an entire Heineken personal keg the following morning to forget that night. Now in all seriousness, what happened pipe sping a leak?
@@AnonMedic well working at this place is essentially a circus so I completely get it… this was a simple job of replacing a little section of gas main, about 20’ of 4” with a little 2” branch, there was a small leak and the 2” valve was antiquated. So we cut out the old stuff. As soon as we started dropping in the new piece it started raining, I got one end welded half way when the deluge happened. We just jumped out and waited. After the monsoon we cut it loose and started over. Dried things out, cleaned it up, and 8 hours later we were finished ✅.
Calmest "everything we own is underwater" I ever heard 😂
Haha yeah, it was beyond saving and we knew it… it’s all company equipment and nothing to stress over. Luckily we only lost one handheld grinder. Everything eventually dried out and is salvageable.
When u need some extra on ur check for world cup tickets
Better grab the sump😅
Yeah, we had two pumps going. that didn’t even come close to keeping up with the volume of water running down the gutter into the excavation. Pretty funny to sit and watch.
And that is why you always clean up your tools and mess at the end of each work day
@@lucid9954 this was a impromptu rain 🌧️ storm. Dumped 4” of rain in 1 hour. The entire neighborhood was graded towards us. Took roughly 15 minutes to flood our job. Then took us 8 hours to start over and finish.
And the crew was warned about possible rain coming, shouldn’t have started in the first place.
Did that suitcase survive?
Sorta … the box was fine and wire was dry. However, the trigger on the gun was destroyed, removed trigger and attempted to dry several times with break clean, WD40, compressed air, nothing worked. So I made a chopstick trigger with the wires and finished like that 😂
Would have switched to the tried and true stick welding but I already fit and gapped everything for the wire … and wasn’t going to fight it. I almost considered putting the root in with TIG and capping with some 7010.
Next time on something electric try electronic cleaner stuff is expensive but it's the best thing for anything electronic.
@@stephenotto2294 yeah I have some contact cleaner back in the shop. And a new trigger also, I’ll replace and try to spray electrical specific stuff in there but honestly it’s a throw away part now. Maybe try to fix just because.
@@swankwelding that or denatured alcohol anything else will leave a residue behind and isn't truly safe on electronic espcthe small micro switches that I'm guessing are in the trigger
No, Everything was salvaged except one grinder. And I’m sure after drying it out for a day or so it will work again also.
Does it break the tools?

Are you a welder ? How do you manage welding and day trading? What hours do you work in welding
Yes, I’m a welder, I typically use my phone with a trading platform during the day. When I’m on vacation or at a computer I use the desktop platform to trade. Sometimes I trade once a day… only requires a few minutes. Other times I trade multiple times a day… it all depends on the situation. Some days I don’t trade st all because I’m busy welding.
