No one cares. Lucius was not a big deal in original. So why care? His wife was a soldier. She wasn’t a victim. They could have set it up better. Lucius spirited away with Dijon Houso. To his African tribe. Trained as a warrior. Married. With child. Then army invade. They all get taken into slavery. His child killed. Wife raped. So he was then traumatised and separated. So least some trauma. But every gladiator was a slave, lost family’s wives,land, kids et etc. so what made him special. Nothing. Music was crap. Mescal was average. Not big enough or believable. Tbh. Can’t be arsed to write more as boring

Sequels are never better than the 1st. Take it for what it is. A good action flick.

Over-the-top spectacle is not what won Gladiator a Best Picture award. it was the superb acting by 3 superb actors, not to mention unforgettable scenes by legends, Richard Harris and Oliver Reed. You sprinkle acting from those two guys in a film and it’s not going to suck.
