This tax is outrageous. Where did they come up such an exhorbinant fee??? I travel extensively, land tours and cruises, and I will NOT be paying that fee if implemented. There are many other beautiful places around the world to visit. The proposed fee will put them in the same range as Australia and New Zealand.

Most on time airline in Mexico? The major problem is Benito Juarez is too small and too busy, and flights are stuck on the runaway for 30 to 45 minutes waiting to take off. Then the pilots play catchup by flying at faster then planned speeds.

We already have limited access to foreign goods, many of which are not produced here in Mexico. I tried to buy some electrical panels in Home Depot the other day and the selection is very poor and typical 3rd world country. If we are ever going to advance, we need low cost access to goods the US and other major countries have.

There would not be drug cartels if Americans would stop using and paying for them. Maybe trump could share to solve the problem of supply and demand.

I prefer the term immigrant to expat because it is my experience that, though not in its dictionary definition, most expats still refer to their country of origin as “home”. It has a feeling of lack of permanence to me, where the term immigrant carries with it a sense of permanence; a commitment to the new country. I don’t fly “home” to visit family or keep a residence there. I AM HOME in Mexico. If I were to go to the US it would be for a short visit or for tourism just like I would to visit any other country. Mexico is my permanent home .

Easy as it could be: Expat = foreigner living outside his HOME country Immigrant = foreigner who decided to leave his home country in exchange for a NEW HOME country Migrant = after leaving his home country ON HIS WAY to look for a new home country So I’m definitely not identifying as an expat nor a migrant but immigrant because I left to finally live in Mexico the rest of my life. This is my HOME country 🤷‍♀️

They tend to know all the ex-pat restaurants in town and all the ex-pats. This makes them feel integrated despite, as you say, finding it hard to string a coherent sentence together in Spanish.

Here in Bucerías, Nayarit I haven't heard anyone say anything is cheap for quite a while now. What I do hear from visitors and ex-pats is: "It's the same price as it would be at home".

It is lighthearted in the way it's presented, but the cover photo in the email is bad. Having an expat looking frustrated that all her favorite conveniences of America aren't currently present in Mexico is NOT why most of us moved to Mexico. We are not just here to colonize Mexico, but here to experience it's beauty and culture (and sometimes frustrations), but to get away from what our home countries have become. If Mexico becomes South Texas or South Vancouver, what's the point? Things are slower here, and it's great, IMO.

It is far cheaper to sell single use plastics for corporations, they nix the transportation and cleaning costs of the retornables. So you buy the product at the same price, no retornable discount, and they rid themselves of the obligation of sustainability. In the last 20 years, the pollution in Mexico has skyrocketed. My family is from Cuernavaca, and we used to go to the Salto de San Anton frequently as kids. We stopped going as frequently in the last decade because it is literally enough to bring you to tears, the amount of garbage at the bottom of the falls.
