Just got back from work and watched the game. That was even more brutal than I thought it would be! Not one T'au plane destroyed! When I play the list I like to use my drones in a similar way to you, moving them first, into awkward to get to side angles that leave them pretty safe to survive until they can get tailing fire. A little different to your playstyle though, I like to use my two tigersharks with the medium range ion cannons to kind of make space while I leave my long range tiger sharks with the paired heavy rail cannons to stay basically in the back four hexes of my deployment zone the whole game. Either way though, I'm glad you got to see the Tiger Shark in action! Hopefully I changed your opinion on the plane. While I have messed with versions of this list with a barracuda or two, I just find it to be a super whelming plane, not doing enough damage or being fast enough to justify its honestly exorbitant cost, unless the mission absolutely requires it. Either way, thanks for playing my list!

Looking back I should have concentrated fire a little more to try and take down at least one Tiger Shark, that may have helped the imperials. Overall, the Tiger Shark hits pretty hard and can take some serious punishment back. Did you like my new dice display, its still not perfect?

@@jongrantminiatures The new dice display is great. Its super clear and nice and in the middle. Another very underrated plane my group discovered was the Ork Grot Bomber. In numbers, we found it unbeatable, even against other lists willing to do anything to win. I'm not sure how many Grot bombers you have (you would need like 5), but I'd love to see if you could make a list that could beat them in a dogfight.

My next video will I cause Grot Bommer although I only have 2. It will be a breakthrough mission.

I have some Orks v Necron games, I need to play a bigger game. The problem is the high cost of the Necrons and lack of ground defences makes the games very similar. Maybe a Necron bombing run against an Ork stronghold.what do you think?

@@jongrantminiatures Would love to see a Tau tiger shark-heavy list. I think I remember a while ago you saying at some point you weren't a huge fan of the tiger shark as a mainline fighter bomber, but they're easily my favorite Tau aircraft. At 150, my go-to list has been two Remora drones, two AX-1-0s with L-BBCDs & PHRCs, and two AX-1-0-4s with CIBDs and PICs, with one having a seeker missile bay to make up the last two points. I've been playing semi-competitive games with my friends at the 150-point limit for a while, and we like how the bigger games give you more varied decisions in list building. Also, on an unrelated note, have you thought about playing Aeronautica games on Tabletop Simulator? I know I'd love to see you play against other players and see how you fare, even if your Aeronautica scene isn't big where you are.

@@granteklund9943 I would worry that a bunch of Xiphons would wreck that list.

@@jongrantminiatures I guess you can try it against my other go-to list, which consists of two Vultures with punisher cannons, and four Thunderbolt Furies, one with a pair of skystrikes to use the two extra points. As you said in your article the furies are great damage dealers for their points, and at three wounds and six maneuvers, they can go toe to toe with two-wound fighters and win reliably. I've tried Imperial Navy lists with just six of them, but find they're very clunky when the enemy closes, like Eldar or Necrons. To make up for that I brought in my two Vultures since they can jink just like those two close-range factions, and still perform well even up close, basically just emulating an Eldar Nightwing with scatters.

@Jon Grant Miniatures Started with 2x Night Lords Squadrons. 1 each Xiphons & Lightnings. Never tried painting the NL's scheme before so wanted to give it a go. Right now have them going up against Imperial Navy. Next will be Loyalist Marines. Haven't decided between Salamanders, Ultramarines or Dark Angels as of yet.

I have Night Lords, Blood Angels, Imperial FIsts, Emperor's Children and Sons of Horus. There are painting guides for all of them on my website

Thank you that is really nice to hear. Let me know if there is anything you think I should add to the videos. I do think there is something missing but I cannot put my finger on it. Also, I am hoping for some new miniatures this year, possibly a new faction.

As for the latter I definitely agree, the lack of a chaos Air Wing it's an obvious choice of what they need to bring out next. But I would like to see them complete the ranges that they have already brought out such as for the towel bringing out the Orca and the Manta, which were in the previous incarnation of the game. But at the very least I think they need to bring out the aircraft for chaos. But in regards to what you could do to make it better I'm rather at a loss. Unfortunately I think that aeronautical imperialis is very much a niche game and because of that the viewership is going to be low sadly. However with that being said, I enjoy your videos more than anyone else's because it's obvious you have a very good grasp of the rules. Maybe you could have yourself or someone narrate a small backstory for each of the scenarios that you're going to play to make the viewer more invested in the scenarios? But other than that I'm at a loss, but even that I don't think is a necessity. I wish I could be more help. I think one of the things that let us down is that the rules are not especially good at relaying a realistic since of air-to-air combat. And that of course is no fault of your own. I do think that you're doing a bang-up job though. Hang in there as long as you feel like you're enjoying what you're doing, that is the most important thing.

If only the Tau had hit a little more in the first two turns.

Yes it was a bit unbalanced but interesting. I was thinking it might be good to try it with Orks as the bombers. Also, maybe equal sized forces.

Yes it was quite fun to do. I was thinking about replaying the game with 4 aircraft a side plus clouds. Then the burning aircraft could hide. What Di you think?

Hi Grant, Yes I do think the Vampires have a place in open skies battles. The raider can take the missiles for extra punch and the Hunter just go with their massive cannons. The main problem with both Vampires is the cost. Additionally, they do take a reasonable amount of punishment, but the 5 structure points still disappear quickly under sustained attack. I like the Vampires to absorb the first move in a turn, this way I can position my more fragile fighters once I know where the opponents are. Having said this, as they are so expensive, I tend to have few planes, which is a major disadvantage in AI.

The Ares Gunship is one of the few miniatures I do not have for AI. Maybe if I can grow this channel I can afford one 😉. I am glad you liked the batrep. I have a bunch more in the can ready to edit.

@@educationRnR1 so have I, they take a little getting used to. Once you do though, they are devastatingly powerful.

All very true, which is why I prefer to back the Lightning up with the odd Thunderbolt (which makes them very, very frightening). Then again, they have so many missiles, they can make a real mess of opponents before then run out of ordinance. Thank you for the comment. Have you any thoughts on what you would like to see?

@@jongrantminiatures sometimes, there is too much echo. It can be heard on dice rolls also. Maybe the room where you record needs some acoustic treatment (panels, foam, textile,..) to reduce the echo.

@@aldricsage5371 that is the problem. The room I have has too many flat surfaces. I am trying some soft furnishings to cut the echo. Thank you for the help though, I will keep working on it.

I wanted to try a different style of game this week, which was a look at tactics. These tactics videos might want a bit more thought but I have to try something to get better. Glad you enjoyed the production though, and thank you for watching. I intend to film a few more games later this week. Is there a mission and/or faction you would like to see.

@@joer5893 bombing missions are hard. The transport ones are OK. I will try and sort something out soonish.

We played one with a line of targets in the middle of the field - almost too easy for Orks to take at least one objective early

@@joer5893 it is hard to take out all of the ground targets before the fighters rip the orks apart. I have been planning g a game out today that I might try.

@@jongrantminiatures loved hearing your hot takes on which planes you like/didn't like. I'm still pretty new to the game so it's not like I have a ton of well-baked opinions so far, so those were nice to see. Ironically I actually disagreed with your opinions on Tiger sharks/Barracudas. I've found Ion Blaster Tiger Sharks to be great mid-board bullies, especially paired with remoras, which can take up activations and stop your opponents from so easily out-maneuvring the front arcs of the slower fighter-bombers. I have yet to try any missions outside of the basic dogfight, but I'm looking forward to trying them out, and hopefully being able to re-evaluate different planes with roles other than just blowing opponents out of the air.

@@granteklund9943 that is fair enough. I am not a fan of the Tiger Shark. I much prefer manoeuvrability over hit points, but that is the fun of the games. Different opinions and approaches keeps the games fresh.

I have found the hu ter Killers to be a must purchase. The cost I think is correct but they are powerful. Overall, I find the Necrons a little lacking. One of things I find most interesting is the aircraft from the 1st Edition always seem better designed than the 2nd. Having stated this, the necrons and the Xiphonsp are solely from the 2nd Ed.

@@jongrantminiatures Maybe an introduction with the name of the models would be more important. In case of a sound I just increased a volume, but as you are not showing face while making video maybe the microphone with headsets would be enough? I have just started with Bladeborn, unboxed the box yesterday. I was really pleased for the packaging quality. I do really like Beastmen and Tzeentch.

@@jongrantminiatures I have compared the Bladeborn supplement Warcry Fighter Rules with Tome of Champions 2021 and with Agents of Chaos. I have found that the supplement is compatible with those, however the cards for Bladeborn boardgame are much different with stats compared with Warcry equivalent. It looks like the balancing was done differently, and maybe the game is well balanced. Maybe that is worth to mention. I wanted to make a port for The Wurmspat but it is not possible to do that easily without intense play testing.

@@CGOLAN there is a website, which I cannot remember right now, that has done lots of the Underworlds warbands for Bladeborn.

Which planes do you need to paint up?

@@jongrantminiatures Bought 2 boxes of each marines planes, 2 boxes of lightnings and got imperial parts of wings of vengeance & skies of fire. I'm an horus heresy player, planning to paint one for Iron Warriors, don't know yet for other (White Scars or World eaters).

@@lord1napalm White Scars are really good with the Jink. World Eaters are nice with Fire Raptors and Thunderhawks. I need to get some more Lightnings. I am currently painting some Night Lords and then I don't know whether to do some Heresy Dark Angels or Iron Warriors.

It is lovely. It has got me painting some Xiphons up for the Blood Angels Legion.

It does feel like a rework to cash in on Horus Heresy. Equally, if more people play it will get more support. The rules set is solid and it is a very affordable game. The Legion rules are nice, some are clearly better than others. I agree a new mission would be nice, you could use some of my missions from my blog www.jongrantminiatures.com there is a nice Space Marine one 'Infiltrator Extraction'.

You can mix Custodes with Astartes or Diviso Aeronautica as this is stated on page 108. The Divisio Aeronuatica are a separate list from the Astartes so they cannot be used together in a Competitve game. This is stated with an or statement on page 74.
