it was one of her latest performances in which she tried to pull a song when her voice was really gone by those days. It was right after she finished her 98 tour I guess it was in that little period after the Australia leg and before the Hawaii one... At least she tried but even Patti sang that song way much better. And the one who's sing that song closer to the original with a beautiful and clear powerful voice is Leona Lewis

The vocal run at 1:50 is a perfect example of why I love Mariah Carey; raw and passionate yet controlled and fluid. If she could sound like this in her upcoming performances, I would be more than happy.

it's called out of sync, every youtube video is out of sync, the whistle in the background from the back up singer, she try to outsing Mariah, not the only time she didn't lip sync

Well i do think everyones opinion should be repected and i'm not trying to come off as arrogant "furacarles1", i sing live not professionally, and i fully understand how things work and why it works that way. Thats all i'm trying to say. She cannot belt and whistle at the same time, and it wasn't the back up singers. Feedback sounds like a whistle.

Omg some of you don't know anything about singing live, that whistle sound when mariah was belting was feed back from the microphone.

this is actually one of her best Fly Like a Bird performance. She hit those high notes very well, nearly as good as the CD version.

OMG amazing! Just fell in love with Mariah all over again! I've never seen or even heard of this performance before! Was it at VH1 Divas Live? Does anyone know?

I love her voice in this performance. Everyone makes a big deal for her upper chest but her low to mid range is the best. That rasp is the reason I like Mariah; it's raw, soulful and powerful. I hope that on the next album we get to hear more like this because she uses it on Right To Dream and it is getting rave reviews across the board.

It's Mariah's voice, when she sings live you hear that higher pitched noise. It's right on with her singing, in case you people failed to notice....

Totally agree with you Why on earth would her backup singers do that? It's stupid that some people its her backup singers doing that high pitch squeal. I get that dual voice if i dont warm up or if i do cardio before singing. Like i start to talk, and you could hear this faint whistle. I usually cough to clear my throat and it goes away.
