What Life is Really Like Inside KENYA'S 'FRIENDLIEST' SLUM
Kibera, located in the heart of Niarobi, Kenya, is the largest informal settlement (or slum) in Africa. Its name is derived from the Nubian word ‘Kibra’ meaning ‘forest’ or ‘jungle,’ originated in the early 20th century. It was initially a settlement for Nubian soldiers who served in the King’s African Rifles. Over the decades, it has grown into a diverse and dynamic community, reflecting a wide array of Kenyan cultures and experiences. It’s a vibrant community marked by resilience and strong social bonds. Despite facing challenges, the people of Kibera create a rich tapestry of culture, entrepreneurship, and hope. Their daily lives reflect an inspiring spirit of perseverance and community.
Kibera is home to many immigrants from across Africa and other parts of Kenya who move to Nairobi seeking better opportunities. Drawn by its relative affordability, they start their journeys in Kibera with hopes of eventually moving to better circumstances. This diverse community is a testament to resilience and the pursuit of a brighter future.
Kibera, like many slums or “ghettos”, faces challenges, including crime. Safety can vary greatly depending on the area and time of day. Over the past decade, however, Kibera has seen some progress in infrastructure and services. Projects like improved roads, access to clean water, and electricity have been implemented. There’s also been a rise in community-driven initiatives and greater focus on education and health services. Nonetheless, many challenges remain, but there’s noticeable progress compared to ten years ago.
In this episode, I explore Kibera, while walking through its vast and winding, narrow alleyways. I visit a church, gym, hair salon, and hotel/restaurants and various street food stalls. And I delve into the lives of some of its residents.
I hope you enjoy the video!

Trunyan or Terunyan village is located on the eastern shore of Lake Batur in Bali, Indonesia. Home of the Bali Aga people, Trunyan is legendary for its treatment of dead bodies, in which they are placed openly on the ground, covered with cloth and bamboo canopies, and left to decompose. Chinese high-speed trains, Chinese technology, Chinese rails, Indonesia is in debt to China.😅🤭.
350km is not the maximum speed of trains, the maximum speed is more than 420 km, but the speed of 350 is only operated for safety reasons.
Hello sir welcome to Indonesian ❤
May I know how much is the ticket per pax?
Rp 250.000… but that was on a week day… On the weekend it’s more expensive. However, that was in December. Now, the price is between Rp 200.000 - Rp 300.000 depending on what time of day you book it.
@@EvanJTravels oh I see. I thought 2nd class cabin would only be 150,000rp. Kinda expensive too....
