What happened to the local band “Oakley” that was hanging out here and doing some recording in the late 90’s?

Duane would have been knocked out by this, and so amazed that anybody would think that their clothes and “old shit” would be interesting to anyone! He just didn’t know yet how much they were loved.

I spent many great times at the Hollywood. It is near and dear to my heart. It was a special place and will always be.

THANK YOU!!! I couldn’t get tickets, was so disappointed. I am a music fanatic and so proud of my homes musical heritage. ( My piano teacher was Sam Phillips’ sister in law, I got meet and play for him around age 9, such a special memory now) I love Miss Bobbie Gentry and enjoy when she is discussed and her songs played. I hope she’s doing well.

I was just there a few days ago. The renovations are complete. The gear is back in place and the console is now Chet Atkins' old API. The down stairs is also finished. However, the bathroom upstairs is exactly as it was originally when it was a coffin factory.

Wow! They didn't show the most famous back porch in music history! I't's small with a little shelter and HUGE history. That tiny little toilet was the scene of an even more important event than when Keith wrote Wild Horses in it. A few months later that tiny, 3 foot by 3 foot bathroom was the scene of another seminal moment in Muscle Shoals lore. Boz Scaggs was about to record the legendary classic, Somebody Loan Me A Dime. The studio was so small and the boys loved to record live causing a sound like no other. The Swampers had a youngster named Duane sitting in with them. Because of the lack of room, Duane, also known as Skydog Allman, was jammed into the tiny toilet with his amp. He proceeded to blast away for about 40 minutes as he, Boz and the Swampers just couldn't stop! Ony about 13 minutes made it onto the album. A few years ago, Boz said "Somewhere in Sheffield, Alabama there's a can with the rest of that tape." Wouldn't you love to hear THAT! Here's the song that set a lot of things in motion including the formation of the Alman Brothers Band and Eric Clapton's invitation to Duane to play on a new song called Layla. The information which I have recieved is this (It would be nice to have a more specifict account of the occurrance, which the ARCHIVIST may supply one day): After meeting in Jacksonville, Florida the Allman Brothers Band began to take form and their popularity began to grow rapidly. The Allman Brothers Band headed to Macon, Georgia, where Duane had already made some music recordings with Wilson Picket at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios. Upon arriving in Macon, the entire band began meeting their, in Macon, to practice and work on music. Berry Oakley had the insight to believe that the Allman Brothers Band would make Macon a perminant address, as a mainstay for the band, so Berry Oakley went ahead and bought this "BIG HOUSE," and utilized it as a "center point" and homing position for the Allman Brothers Band. The Allman Brothers Band had a very popular drawl at the "BIG HOUSE" and they moved their personal families to more private residences, while maintaining the "BIG HOUSE," as a Band "homing-position." The "BIG HOUSE" eventually became sold to an entrpenuer interested in the historic items owned by the Allman Brothers Band, and he began to remodel the "BIG HOUSE."
