From Broke to Shark Tank: Allison Ellsworth, Co-Founder of Poppi
Allison Ellsworth is the co-founder of Poppi, a better for you soda brand that is revolutionizing the next generation.
Allison always knew she wanted to be an entrepreneur, but her journey began in the oil and gas industry, where she spent years on the road building a successful career. During this time, she struggled with bloating and other gut health issues, inspiring her to take charge of her wellness. Determined to improve her health, she adopted a clean diet, started hitting the gym, and discovered the benefits of apple cider vinegar. However, she wasn’t a fan of its taste and sought a way to make it more enjoyable.
Allison created an apple cider vinegar-based soda called "Mother Beverage" in her kitchen and quit her day job-nearly going broke while selling the drink at her local farmers' market. After an appearance on Shark Tank while nine months pregnant and a complete product rebrand, the prebiotic soda became "Poppi," the viral, #1 selling soda on Amazon with over 2 billion TikTok views and the most-watched Super Bowl ad this year.
In this week’s episode, Allison shares her incredible journey, from leaving a stable job to risking it all to start her own business-without any prior experience. She reveals how she created her first drink in her kitchen, started selling it at farmers' markets, and managed to get it onto Whole Foods shelves with zero connections. With a “say yes before you’re ready” attitude, Allison took a leap of faith, trusting it was the right path for her. When she needed more capital, she pursued her dream of appearing on Shark Tank, landing a deal while nine months pregnant with her second baby. Allison breaks down why they decided to rebrand Poppi, how they executed a successful relaunch during the pandemic, the social media strategies that helped them grow awareness and build a loyal community, and so much more.

Loved seeing this and going so in depth you were so transparent Amanda is amazing
There are so many gems here. I’m going to be replaying it without a doubt.
The host knows how to ask really good questions, very informative, great interview👍
you're so kind, thank you for listening!!
Love it! Im a jewellery designers would love more interviews with jewellery business owners or fashion!
Love this message! Just ordered some hair care!
Thanks for the breakdown! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
anazing .. i love there work
Thank you, I really appreciate how sincere, transparent and insightful this interview is. I’m impressed with your commitment to natural organic products. I would never have thought or considered an engineering degree before this (interesting). I like how you look at planning and scheduling. I really love your advice on fear (get active/move). I find self doubt, fear of success, fear of things that feel outside of your control can be debilitating (freeze up/overload/stop all movement) and I believe that you are right, the best thing to do is just start moving/taking action. I would have been impressed by you, your journey and your company sans the 3 children and 5 dogs! Impressive!! Congratulations on your new acquisition partnership! It sounds very positive and exciting!
Such a great interview! I'm so glad I found your Pod. Just subscribed 😊
That means the world, thank you so much for listening!! :)
Olivia nuzzi sluttin brought me here😂
If you are smart without motivation you are lazy 29:18
It's like her mom abandoning her is like where she gained her strength. like when goku went into the hyperbolic chamber to train
Loved this interview. Ms Harper radiance is captivating
👏👏👏
Time stamps please.
Love her so much!
It’s so interesting to me that in the beginning the department stores wanted Rebecca to fall in line with what everyone else was doing… but by staying true to her unique style, she has actually led the market to this place,- her place- the revival of the feminine. I see loveshack style clothes everywhere now, where you can see clearly that other brands are trying to mimic that feminine floral style. I grew up in England, with the antiquity and the Laura Ashley styles that Rebecca mentions… I now live in the USA and love how she has used these classic and beautiful designs from Europe, but updated them and made them fun and fresh. The lace, the cotton, things I associate with Europe where artisans have been creating these things for years, are often diminishing now in todays fast fashion world, yet Rebecca has found a way to celebrate them again and incorporate them in a freshly updated, comfortable and beautiful way 💜
Ok this is so fantastic, thank so much to you BOTH for the wonderful and inspiring conversation!! What really stood out to me is: - Joanna's genuine and caring nature where she puts people first - from the mission, her team, and how she treated everyone along the process - her commitment in staying true to her values, despite investor pressures, and refusal to compromise the integrity of Knix's vision for money - Her generous act of buying a house for her nanny, demonstrating deep respect for everyone’s dignity and value-these people truly deserve recognition. - Her bold decision to pivot to a consumer-focused distribution strategy 3 years in and move away from existing distributors. - Her refusal to let a lack of a design background hold her back. - Overall, her clear vision and determination to stay true to her direction despite external pressures.
I loved your summary!! Thank you so much for listening, Joanna is such a force!

This was a great interview.
Thank you so much for listening!!
She’s a SCAM!!!! People don’t look up to her. She’s selfish!!!!!
Excellent interview and message for young women! Thank you
Great interview! ❤
I pray you have an encounter with Jesus..not Religion.
Love Annie. She’s so humble ❤
I’m an INTJ, too!
Me too!
Great interview! Very inspiring ❤
False Evidence Appearing Real=Fear
Love her laugh ❤
I love her story and the idea behind the products but after trying most of them, the price point and quality is not worth it. It is around $4.50 for 4 donut holes. The small jar of cookie dough is nearly $18 with tax. The packaging for the donut holes was very hard to use and would scrape off the icing. If the taste was better, I'd be happy to pay more for a healthier dessert. Right now, it is double for a less tasty dessert. Wishing her much luck in journey and hoping she improves the product.
Overcoming Challenges, breaking but not broken, Believing & starting with the WHY? Thanks Fawn, much success to you.👏
I'm binge watching this lady's interviews. She's amazing.
Me too since seeing the Forbes interview last night
Yes! So glad her video showed up in my algorithm. This is my 4th interview today.
Great interview!! Thank you!!♥️
Me too! Just inspiring and seemingly down to earth, feet planted at the same time.
Same!! ❤
Fawn is incredible. 💯💯💯💯
She is an inspiration ❤
Venture capital
Everytime I watch an interview of her’s I feel like I’m one step closer to achieving my goals. It’s like I see myself in her and I know I can get my business to where I know it can be. One key take away was the statement “on the other side of the process is the promise” a word I needed.
Great interview
Loved this! Thank you both for this very frank conversation!
Thank you Alona for listening in!! :)
I am in a job that I no longer feel fullfilled. I believe there's a greater purpose for my life. I would like to have my own business and get out of working for someone else.
