Watch for @thejetfighter www.youtube.com/@thejetfighter to be making a video about this. He also has other flight sims that he discusses on several of his media accounts. Very well done tutorials several older flight sims on modern PC's. I have the files and basic install notes uploaded to my MediaFire account if you need them sooner. You will need to install virtual DVD software like Daemon tools to run the ISO files and install on your PC. I've tried using the retail CD version of LockOn Gold with StarForce protection, however could only play by installing game on Windows 7, using an update to the StarForce software. But since then found the version that bypasses the StarForce. It consists of the original LockOn v1.0, then install Flaming Cliffs 1.1, then Update patch 1.12a, and then update patch 1.12b. and finally the No-DVD patch. It works great. And yes, there is not much information available on this game, especially since LockOnfiles website went away. I think it is a very underrated game and deserves some attention. I may end up doing some videos about tips and how to's about the game from what I've learned about it so far. I've had the game since new, 2003? but never fully got involved in it until now. I enjoy it more than FC3 , probably because of the nostalgia and it works. 👍

Actually DCS came from further back, this is not the first ED simulator.

If you like Flaming Cliffs 1, you could buy on eBay . Look for Lock On Gold. It includes LockOn, Flaming Cliffs 1 and updated to final version of 1.12 However, the latest Windows version that you can play it on is Windows 7. That's only because Flaming Cliffs 1 uses StarForce anti-piracy software and it cannot be updated to play on any newer Windows versions beyond Win7. Ubisoft allowed one update to Starforce to Windows Vista. You can update it ( from Starforce website) to Windows Vista and play it on Windows 7 PC. Original Lock On stand alone can be played on modern Windows PC . But I could not get network multiplayer to work on that version.

​@@DemCampurz Hello , Lock On Gold only uses StarForce protection. However , if you use that version (Lock On Gold - retail boxed version) the latest Windows version you can play it on is Windows 7. And that is with using an update to StarForce which makes it playable on Windows Vista, but will also work on Windows 7. StarForce wont break your computer, it will just prevent you from loading this game. It is a terrible software protection because it requires the game publisher to request an update to StarForce in order to make it playable on newer operating systems. And that's not going to happen on a game this old. This video was played on Windows 7 using the updated StarForce protection. It works well but will not work on Windows 10/11 . But there is good news. I have recently found out that there is another downloadable version that can avoid the StarForce activation. I am using it on Windows 10 and should work on Windows 11 as well. I am also playing it full screen at 2560 x 1440 on my 32" monitor by using a graphics wrapper called dgVoodoo2 . I set the screen resolution to my desktop display in dgVoodoo2. There is a noticeable difference in the ground terrain and clouds when installed on Windows 10. I have the same settings for both of my PC's to get the best graphics quality but in Windows 10 I can see trees and more ground details than I could with Win7 version. I do not use compatibility mode for Windows 7 , only Run as Admin is required when using dgVoodoo2 graphics wrapper. It works flawlessly on my PC and multiplayer will work using Radmin. I will be doing more to promote this sim because I feel it is worth a second look compared to the newer DCS versions. It's scaled down and has lower requirements. I have the downloadable version in my MediaFire account for Win10 gameplay. I have just created a Facebook group 4 days ago called Lock On Flaming Cliffs 1 and prefer people join there and provide links and answer questions. I feel it is a better format than discussing here. Yeah it sure does. These older games have just the right amount of techy to still be fun. I've had LockOn since new but have not played it much in the last 20 years. Now I'm totally into the whole game , 20 years later LOL. This is the last version, LockOn Gold which has FC1.12 and can only be played on Windows 7 at the latest due to StarForce anti-pirate software. Sadly It just kills the longevity of the game. But yeah, it kicks a$$ !. Thanks for the comment

Yes, it is gameplay. I thought the same thing as you when I first replayed the saved video. Because when the helicopter first took off I purposely fired the cannon at the ground. And that's what the video shows. I looked into the games camera and view settings to get the target view and other action views. I wish the game had more camera settings. So that is one mission , start to finish just as I played it.

Yes, and it's a shame they made this game practically unplayable now. I bought it when it was still listed in their support site and registered it. Because now you cannot even activate it as you will need to register it online to the YuPlay site which is broken. This could have developed into so much more. 😞

Yeah Gaijin did a great job on the model and sounds for this aircraft. They really should have gone a little further with the development to keep the game playable. With a few improvements to the flight characteristics and additional views like fly by, and more camera positions. I don't know how the real aircraft handles turns but this model is very tricky to preform a 180. I had to cut power and drop the nose to get it to turn a little as long as I had altitude. I will end up doing another video showing the cannon and the FLIR. Really looks and sounds realistic.

@@richardstinchcomb5604 they have for the most part just copy pasted all the helis in this to wt but the HUD and stuff could do with alot of work in wt, hopefully one day they'll give each individual heli and tank there own unique sights instead of the same stuff over and over again. only time will tell

Yes thankfully people have made plenty of mods for this and API wrappers for making the game look so good. I think it is a very underrated sim game.

Hello, I used the Saitek X-55 HOTAS , has the built in twist handle on joystick for rudder. Works real good. It's pretty much the same as the newer version X-56 HOTAS from Logitech

It looks like it does. In the manual it shows ( numpad ) CTRL + and CTRL - to increase or decrease time acceleration in single player mode only.

I'll give it a try. Are you having a problem with opening a port or still have a connection issue.? First be sure that you both have the same game version, with the update patch. Next, you both have to open your ports in your router TCP: 2934-2935 and UDP: 2934-2935 If you have never gone into your router before it can be a little intimidating. You will need to have your login and password information to get into your router's software. If your router is supplied by your internet provider, they can let you know what that is and how to get in. Also here is a link that is very helpful to identify your router and where to go to find your Port Forwarding section. portforward.com/router.htm Once ports are opened on yours and your friends router, you should be able to make a connection.

Also when you are opening the ports in your router, be sure to have those ports opened to the computer you are playing the game on. You need to know the internal or local IP address of the computer you are using. There is a space between the command ipconfig and the switch of /all. Your ip address will be the IPv4 address. Your friend will also have to do the same. It will start out with 192.168.x.xxx ( the x is there in place of numbers for my example )

This link has a program that you can download to help you with port forwarding, checking open ports for the free trial version. Down towards the bottom of the page. I've used it many times to be sure my ports are opened and confirm my IP. Maybe this would help ? portforward.com/store/pfconfig.cgi

It can be a little tricky to play online unless you are familiar with port forwarding through your router. First you need the game which can be found at several sources to download. It is available at Abandonware www.myabandonware.com/game/falcon-4-0-allied-force-e53 or Old-Games.com for a small charge www.old-games.com/download/9567/falcon-4-0-allied-force . But you will need to know how mount an ISO file and software to install it. Plus you will need to update with patch 1.0.3 And Port forwarding : TCP: 2934-2935 and UDP: 2934-2935 All players need to have their ports forwarded.

Why were the TF -30 Pratt and Whitney used ? Those engines had Compressor Stalls ..GE is a way way better Reliable engine

@@tomperock1615 Sure. I'll answer this one for you. The Pratt & Whitney TF-30 power plants (engines) were used on both the FA-18 Hornet and the FA-18 Super Hornet after the DOD were denied further funding for the acquisition of GE F414 engines. This was because a shipment of engines (2,514 in total) were lost somewhere in transit whilst being shipped from the engine manufacturing plant to the FA-18 aircraft assembly plant back in 1995, which was about when the production of the FA-18's began. As a result of the Pratt & Whitney TF-30 being so utterly reliable in any case (except when they developed compressor stall issues quite regularly) and also as a result of the Air Force and Navy having a generous supply of the TF-30 engines from scrapped Tomcat F-14A's and from dismantled F-111's this was considered to be the best engine option for the FA-18 Hornet. You may find interesting the fact that they'd experimented with fitting (older) P&W TF-33 engines to the Hornet, but during testing they were often found to cause serious fuselage buckling and would sometimes explode due to excessive heating around where the engines were mounted. Sometimes when dogfight testing, one or both of the two experimental Pratt & Whitney TF-33's would dislodge from inside of the aircraft fuselage. You were right to suggest that none of the FA-18's were ever fitted with General Electric engines, and I hope that I've been able to explain to you just why that was and why it still is to this day.
