between Motive (1990) and Plenty (2010), Red Box frontman Simon Toulson-Clarke worked on one song under the name Plenty for the 2001 film Saving Grace. nothing really came of the band Plenty, but the name was recycled for the great Red Box revival of the late 2000s. massive shoutout to a particular Discord user for acquiring this mp3 for me

      i would also recommend listening to their 4th album, Sugarland, which is very accessible-- gone are the portentous vocals and massed orchestras, replaced by psychedelic grooves to carry you to your bliss. th-cam.com/video/F74swKKQbPA/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=funnysynthnoises

      tbh I think a Chappell Roan bagpipe/violin solo would save her. and I do admit I should listen to Sugarland again, haven't properly gone through it in over a year. I think I didn't care for it because it wasn't as out-there as the first two (and to some extent CTAL) albums.

    I was a kid in the 80s and remember Red Box, particularly “Lean on Me” and “For America” Funnily enough, I also remember the film “Saving Grace” from years later, which I enjoyed, but I didn’t know they’d contributed to the soundtrack.

      I ended up getting the song they contributed (also on my channel), and after hearing it, I don't recall it being in the film in the first place. It's a neat little piece of Red Box trivia though, and perhaps the only song Simon will make that alludes to weed :P

    First of all, mad respect for making this video in the first place! I wanted every song clip to be longer but that would've made this at least half an hour, and I really can't make myself watch anything on TH-cam that's longer than 20 minutes, so...good call on your part for keeping things quick! Interesting to me that so many of these bands yielded no results. Lost to time.... :( Possibly victims of this mag's penchant for misspelling band names? Also I had no idea "psychobilly" was an actual genre, let alone one (seemingly) dominated by the Brits....I have been enlightened this evening.

    • @funnysynthnoises
      @funnysynthnoises หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was genuinely surprised some of the bands were untraceable, especially those with more unique names, just as surprised as I was that some of them had as many results as they did! yeah psychobilly is super interesting (I think one of my mutuals on the 'Gram likes the genre), p sure it's more American, but because the magazine is from the UK, they decided to stay local with their picks

    Obscure long forgotten music for the win!! Commenting along some of my thoughts while watching: Have heard of Belouis Some before, he's in my playlist. Propaganda!! Yesss! Dekka Danse has been in my rare-80s playlist for a while as they never made it to Spotify. - Ray Gunn and The Lasers is such a funny name what 😭 - Have listened to Alien Sex Fiend but they never made it to my playlist sorry boos you're not good enough ✋😔 Wow that took me long to find out the Specials and Fun Boy Three were related. Actually furious somebody named their band Wotsupski!. Good for them there were no results.

      As well as the link between The Specials and Fun Boy Three, there is a link between Fun Boy Three and The Go Gos, as the late great Terry Hall was going out with Jane Wiedlin at one point in the 80s and they co-wrote “Our Lips Are Sealed” which was a hit for The Go Gos in the States and for Fun Boy Three here in the UK.

    😃 on the What Noise album subject. It has this pompous and exaggerated production but very fashionable at that time 😃 with that kind of "gospel" vowels 😛 you have to understand that part of the spirit of KTP is this mocking, silly and exaggerated spectacularity, they liked to twist things, that was part of the spirit of the time and they knew how to capture it very well! 😃 This album is perfect for having fun playing it to boring adults, pretending to be serious while doing it and then start seeing their reactions when they say damn! what's that?? !! hahah
