Thank you so much for responding to my question God bless and have a great day much blessings
Hi Iam in the Bahamas I bought a,350 crusaders gasoline engine 32 feet one night out fishing trying to get back in pushing the throttle a bit the engine back fires but no speed what can I do to correct the problem it's my first inboard boat many thanks for responding to this message thank you sir and blessings to you my friend
Hope all is well, I hope I can help if you have not already solved your issue. Backfiring is usually electrical in nature(misfire), check timing, plugs and wires, pop open distributer and check for corrosion. An old way to check plug wires is to run it when its dark and check wires, if it looks kinda like a sparkling xmas tree then wires are bad.
Also ensure you have no vacuum leaks, should be only 1 tube on the back of the carb. Ensure that is on secure.
You take the micro mesh out and throw it away put the heavy mesh back in. We do this on all CO safe gas westerbekes on the first service.
You take the OEM fine out screen out? Is that a Westerbeke recommendation or an industry practice?
Wish you would’ve shown the process of taking the pump belt off.
You may have skimmed over it but the direction is at 3:15 which say to loosen "2" 9/16ths bolts located on the lower section and slide the pump towards the crank, you don't have to remove just loosen.
Appreciate you!
My buddy is building me the same motor for my 64 impala
How did you finally get the macerator out of the base. I am having the same issue. It's hung up on the inside. Thanks
There's only one problem with this video. You don't show the orientation of the emulsion tube when assembling. This is the most important part that is missing because the manual does not show this well with the diagram.
This is definitely a great example of how many performance issues are blamed on the carburetor when its actually an ignition issue. Fellers, check your timing!
One thing to watch out for when switching to HEI is voltage. Those 2 wires that come from the solenoid and ignition switch may not carry the full 12 volts that the HEI wants. The one coming from the solenoid will have 12V, but the one coming from the switch might only have 6 to 8V. Especially if you're converting from mechanial points. The external coil from those systems can't handle full 12V,so they're ballasted, or run throu a resistance wire to supply lower voltage. Make sure to test each wire to insure that you're getting full voltage in the run position as well as the start position
Good videos my man! Looks like you had a lot of same issues I had with my twin crusader 350’s in my 30’ tollycraft, and I did all the exact same stuff you did! Even got the crem da la crem DUI distributors and yes 100% difference, more complete fuel burn, better get up and go, etc...trying to keep it short, but yes, your gonna have to run her hard after the sea foam and also try E3 diamond fire spark plugs if you haven’t yet..NOTE: they’re not adjustable...valve train issues? Maybe, but probly more like worn guides seals or clogged Oiler holes, but a top end rebuild would fix that...
nice video thanks
I called Bill Roberts in Washington State and he called me right back with a lot of suggestions as to the problem that I was having in starting one of my engines. If it turns out that it is the controller box, I will gladly ship it to him for repairs. He really knows what he is talking about.
He was as close to being with us as you could ask for. We were very impressed with their service and if they cannot help you then I'm as wits end. I hope all goes well with your repairs!
I'm the first one to appreciate your good presentation.
Thank you! Much appreciated! My son pushed me to start a channel and share some of my experiences. I just put these out to help people as boat repair places are charging through the roof and it does not matter the repair. Save your money for when its a big repair!
I can hear valve train problems and iam sure it has low oil pressure problems replace engines with 460 ford big blocks
Nah! Finally took the boat out and it ran really good! No problems now! Oil pressure is excellent, exceeded 4K RPM'S, and ran the 52 foot boat @ 12-14 mph @ 3100 RPM'S. Lesson...do not run engines at low RPM for years on end.
Excellent video! I am having the same issues and have tried the same things to no avail. I’ll try the distributors. Do you have a link to the specific distributors you chose? I have the same breakerless ignition system you had before the upgrade. Thank you
Unfortunately I don't have a link but I ordered the distributors via Summit racing. They were very knowledgeable and I talked to DUI prior to finalizing my order to ensure I had the correct distributor. You will need the pigtail and new 8mm plug wires(I had to order 2 kits of SP wires to get enough long SP wires to reach the plugs). Any questions reach out to me. Easy install! Make sure you use a vacuum gauge on set up!!
New lights look great. Can’t wait for a night party to see them in person.
So far so good! I like that I can now dim them!!
