Building Deep Sleep - The Deepest Accommodation on Earth
มุมมอง 10Kปีที่แล้ว
Deep Sleep took a great many people a long time and a lot of work to build. And yet, surprisingly little in the way of video footage exists, as very little was actually taken. Why? Because we were just too busy! When there is a lot of stuff to carry, one person holding a camera is never going to be popular. Still, some footage survives and I've compiled it into this short and punchy video. Not ...
Underground Worlds - Cwmorthin Slate Quarry (UKTV Yesterday Channel)
มุมมอง 1.6Kปีที่แล้ว
The Yesterday Channel (part of UKTV) made a short documentary about the mine I work in (Cwmorthin) and the company I work for (Go Below Underground Adventures). The video talks about Cwmorthin's history, then shows some of the adventure trips offered, followed by a section about Deep Sleep (still under construction at the time of filming). It features two very dear friends of mine, Mike and Pre...

This is a British made Nife NH10 portable flashlight. It used to have a rechargeable wet battery but now I've put in a modern Lithium Ion cell.
Cool Lamps #05: The massive SA6060 Flashlight Torch 1957
มุมมอง 133ปีที่แล้ว
This is a cast-aluminium safety torch, made in London from 1957. It takes three D cells and apart from its very sturdy construction, it is otherwise quite unremarkable.
Cool Lamps #04: CEAG Electric Mining Lamps

I've managed to acquire the cabin flashlight from a Boeing 747 that was being dismantled. This video is a brief look at it and how it works.
Cool Lamps #02: Mystery Mining Lamp
มุมมอง 140ปีที่แล้ว
Another one of my many mining lamps, this one of unknown make, but very skilfully built and still working fine to this day (except with a new battery!). Easily a century old, I'm sure it could tell some stories!
Cool Lamps #01: Some Soviet Union flashlights

Two small unopened mail packets have been lying around my house for a while. Finally I open them! Two old (1970's?) flashlights from the former Soviet Union.
Guide to Foraging Wild Hazelnuts, Beechnuts and Sweet Chestnuts (and how to eat them!)
มุมมอง 2.1Kปีที่แล้ว
In this video I show how to forage for wild Hazelnuts, Beechnuts and Sweet Chestnuts, and how you can roast them to make them into super yummy snacks. All three of these nuts (especially the Hazelnuts) can be found all over the UK, most of Europe, and much of North America. In Wales (where I live), Hazel trees (or bushes) are literally everywhere in hedgerows, growing in fields, woodlands, wast...
Gunpowder Blast
มุมมอง 232ปีที่แล้ว
Quite an old video of me blasting a boulder using Gun powder. The video looks like I barely got away in time, that's not actually true, there was plenty of time between me leaving the frame and it blowing up, I just removed those frames to make the video shorter.

great video, thanks allot for teaching me something 😁
Thus makes you wonder....if a group of fairly ordinary people can do this, imagine what a government can build underground that we haven't seen..
Just grabbed a 3.5kW generator from the dump. Needed a piston since it was probably fed gasoline or shot with ether. It runs great and will easily surpass its rating and put out 4kW without straining:)
There are milk caps and some amanitas,
Juat ripe is the best . Juicy and sweet.
I think the screw is for if you sharpen edges over time so they still close. Same with bolt croppers. Beautiful tool
you could have dip your hand to the bubble solution to hold the big bubble on your hand!
You are a great teacher. We're about to build an off grid power system and enjoyed the video and simplicity of connecting components. We didn't realize the battery could start the gas engine using the DC motor instead of having a dedicated starter motor...didn't think of that bonus. Also, didn't understand that a DC generator is simply a DC motor. This tip will help us to find the basic components more easily. John
Don't know where you live, but in the states a ebike must have operable pedals to be classed as a bike.
What happened to this generator? Stull working?
What a great set up, would you consider making and selling one of these control boxes?
Hi, very impressed with the charging capabilities of this setup. I know it has been a few years, but is is still performing ok? If you can remember have you still got the details from specification plate on that motor (model, V,amps….) as I am looking for one. Thanks
Anyone else think he sounds like Adrian Newey?
Have you ever made cooking oil from beech nuts?
nope, never tried. Have you?
@@user-MMUK No, I haven't found anyone who has yet either :) .
Impossible to start one of these when it is warm. A waste of time.
Hi there, could I use 5 seconds of this video in a documentary about the earth for my youtube channel? (commercial purposes)

I've found one of these bsa engines at a car boot sale a few years ago it's totally original and started first time so I've put it one a merry tiller rotavator as the old Briggs engine has seen better days
Ive seen my father using lots of these Brooks motors for building compressors. He used to buy as many of the 3hp single phase motors ( identified by a a large cylinder on the rear of the motor and contained the capacitor centrifugal switch ) as he could find in scrapyards as they had a lot of starting torque that was ideal for compressors
That's a nice story Nick, thanks for sharing! Yes I'm sure it would be good on a compressor, maybe it even came off one back in the day. No telling now of course. I've still not done anything with this one since this video, but it's sat somewhere warm and dry and enjoying the good life.
Watched several of these and this is the only one actually operated and tested. good job, Id like to try this to charge my off grid system in winter or when using tools that drain the power.
😂😂
So jealous... 😂😂😂 That's a noice piece of history right there...
How much does it weigh and what’s the model/power of the vfd?
hmmm well the VFD is 2kw I think. It's just an unbranded Chinese one, nothing fancy. The motor weighs maybe 25kg? I'm only guessing.
Weld it to a pedal bike 😁
That would be cool, but I think the operating voltage would be a bit of a problem. 3hp would be quite powerful for an electric bike.
Interesting content. The dramatic music is not needed.
This looks like a hoot, awesome build!
Thank you! Interestingly enough, this drive-around was its first and last journey, it's been at the back of the shed ever since. Maybe I enjoy making things more than I like using the things I make. Perhaps I'll try and resurrect it at some point and gear it in such a way it's not so strained on the hills. Or put a 5kw motor on it and register it as a Motor-Trike.
Next level especially the grotto
Beautiful piece of British Engineering
Interesting to here someone in the UK say ground instead of earth. Also an imperial shaft size call out. Never give in! I love old quality built machinery.
hi could l get it to make 48volts .cheers adrian

I still have one of these from my mining days in Australia. Definitely an Oldham. The lamp Room had hundreds of them.
Years late -- but no smoking, no burning, nothing. Just give it what it wants and it works, don't and it won't break! As expected of anything 100 years old, built to last.
Where abouts do you spray the cleaner please mate?
огонь
I could imagine playing this at a rave
Nice, great job, looks brand new
10kg each ?
hi it looks like a allam generator .is it for sale for s few quid more than the farmer sold it to you cheers
Got a similar one I just found in my garage, says type 2 1973 on the little brass plate , if I charge it at 4volt would there be a chance it still work lol ?
What kind of led buld would work? I love the old look of stuff but the bulds are ass lol
nice 😃
the import issues could have been resolved if the seller paid before hand
What used to be in the cavern before you put all the work into turning it into what it is now? What's the cavern called?
I'm surprised being an inverter genset that it doesn't have computer controlled throttle. I picked up a bigger inverter one that controls engine speed, at least it did before obsolete inverter board packed it in. now I want to convert it to a 48v DC battery charger. I like that one you got though, compact and ready to go.
That woman is annoying.
Fabulous - and very entertaining - video ! Fair do's for walking /sliding that plank !! I've been there twice...and am hoping to return shortly on a mission to find those cellars ! (somehow escaped our attention previously...)
Hi , what is the best route to get there? via the golf club?
@@Lpoolphotographs Hi. The way we've gone in is : hopping over the wall at the mini bus-stop on B5109 (Allt Goch Rd/Wrexham Rd) near the two schools . There's a vague clearing through the woods which will lead you there. Not found or tried any other way . Hope that helps : amazing site !
