Before I walked, I gave the key one more final turn, and suddenly it started up. We drove the rest of the way with no incident. I beat the hell out of it in San Francisco, and eventually the head gasket started leaking and getting really stinky (tried fixing it myself, but, to no avail). Tried to junk it, but, since it didn't have a California title, I couldn't. So, I parked it in front of a fire hydrant, south of Market Street, partially blocking a business driveway, and I called the "abandoned auto hotline" and let them know that I was abandoning it, and where to find it. It sat for well over a month before they got around to towing it. RIP Volvo from hell. 1984-1994.
