Importance of woodturning sharpening
I believe 90% of turning problems are related to almost sharp tools and poor technique. Here is my take on sharpening. I actually sharpen every finish cut and often in between.

Anthony Hand-Held Curved Neck Hollowing Tool
มุมมอง 76ปีที่แล้ว
This hand-held hollower is inspired by the Mike Hunter Tools/Long Reach Barron Hollower. The main difference is that this tool is much bigger and will hollow end grain hollowing up to thirteen (13") inches deep.
Hand-held hollowing tool with carbide insert
มุมมอง 128ปีที่แล้ว
The length of the handle is important. The general rule is 6 to 1. With this tool, I was able to hollow nine inches deep easily. I am going to beef up the tool to see if it will go even deeper. This tool uses a carbide insert and is designed to work in end-grain hollowing.
Prototype Hollowing Tool
มุมมอง 323ปีที่แล้ว
This is my prototype hollowing tool that I have tried to find for years. I finally made my own and am considering manufacturing and marketing it. It is designed for a captured boring bar. The piece I am hollowing is green/fresh-cut Silver Maple and I am pushing it to test its max cutting capacity. Contact me at: www.midwestwoodart.com/

    The only magic to this is sharp tools and think of removing the wood from a board with a scrub plane. You are going across the wood grain instead of with the grain which cuts much more aggressively and efficiently.

    I own a 1960 Craftsman lathe i resurrected, I powered it with a DC treadmill motor and controller, Incorporating the original step pulleys to this allows me to turn as slow as a snail or as fast as i dare, I can gear down the belts and speed the motor up and that gives a nice momentum and feeling.

      Sounds like a nice setup. I will have to watch for old treadmills to rob for parts now.

    Good video. How many coats and how long do you let it dry before recoating? Thanks

    • @lyndalanthony635
      @lyndalanthony635 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do as many coats as needed letting it dry at least one day between coats, more if possible. I sand with 500 grit between coats just removing the tops of the orange peal.
