Great if some or all of the illustrious crowd you point to would comment, or anyone else, because agroecology is not the preserve of particular people - it is for all those who subscribe to it - and the 13 principles are out there and explicit, so it is great for us all to debate them. The problem here is that you take remarks out of context. None of the 13 HLPE principles is explicit about GMOs (that is a fact), probably because that would be too specific for a universal principle - more akin to prescribing specific practices as in organic agriculture - let's face it, agriculture is all about domestication of plants and animals, which modifies them genetically - so it is not genetic modification per se that is the problem but how it is done and how it is used and it was clearly stated that while genetic modification itself might not violate any of the 13 principles, the way GMOs have been used has done so - in terms of disempowering farmers by controlling plant genetic resources and in other cases undermining biodiversity or agrobiodiversity - but this is how the technology is used not the technology itself. So - great debate - but let's try and keep it at a level where we are discussing the substance rather than stereotyping positions and generating unnecessary polarisation. Keep it coming!
