'WhaleSong Sounding': A song for Sir Peter (with lyrics)
'I wrote this song for the late Sir Peter Scott. He knew well the songs I had written to mark the return to Dundee of his father's ship, 'RRS Discovery.' We met during a visit he and Lady Scott made to Dundee. As we parted, he said to me, 'We must do something about the plight of the whale.' I promised him I would write a song.

Feara Bhata
มุมมอง 3009 ปีที่แล้ว
"Feara Bhata" meaning, The Boatman, is a love song originally composed in the Scottish Gaelic by Jean Finlayson. Jean was from the island of Tong. When she wrote the song she was being courted by a young fisherman from Uig and the song evokes her emotions during that time. Apparently they were married soon after.
The Pride O' the Panmure Yaird

"The Pride O' The Panmure Yaird" is our tribute to Captain Scott's RRS Discovery and to the men who built her. It was good to sing it on board with our old friend Alan Barty, sadly no longer with us. (Also on TH-cam by Lowland Folk, "RRS Discovery").
RRS Discovery

April 3rd 1983 was a special day for the people of Dundee. RRS Discovery, the most famous ship ever built there, was coming home after 85 years. Thousands thronged the shoreline to watch as slowly she was borne up the Tay by the floating dock Happy Mariner. Many were caught unawares that day by the emotion of the occasion. For the first time they could see for themselves the ship so closely ass...
LOWLAND FOLK : Will Ye Go Tae Flanders - Happed In Mist
มุมมอง 10K11 ปีที่แล้ว
Two Flanders-related songs have been put together here by Lowland Folk as a tribute to anyone who has ever gone to war for their country. The spoken words are from "Happed In Mist," a powerful First-World-War song by Dundee's late lamented singer / songwriter, Michael Marra. He was inspired to write it after reading of the tragic end of Ewan Tavendale in the novel, "Sunset Song," by Lewis Grass...
Roisin Dubh - Lowland Folk

Apart from being one of Ireland's best-loved and most lyrical airs, Roisin Dubh is also one of it's most political. Adapted from a seventeenth - century love song, the black rose (Roisin Dubh) came to represent Ireland herself. This English translation from the Gaelic was written by the Irish traditional music historian, Donal O'Sullivan. Realising that earlier translations did not fit the exac...

A collection of Dundee Children's Street Songs recorded by The Lowland Folk Four, a well-known Dundee folk song group from the sixties, with appearances on Hootnanny, White Heather Club and My Kinda Folk with the legendary Alex Campbell. Many thanks to Bob Dewar for his illustrations that bring the songs to life. Let me not forget Allan Barty for his contribution to our music over the years.
