Howdy folks. We are Bryan and Andrea, and we run Amuck. We are designers and makers. We are metal smiths, and travelers. We love doing things nobody would expect us to do, and we're gonna take you along for the ride. There will be videos from the metals studio, videos about whittling, travel, tools we use, maybe even some how-to videos, and videos about things we haven't even thought of yet.
Have a lovely Day!

😭😭 thank you for existing!! Its so hard to find this sort of explanation style anymore- when its just, like, just explaining like u were just hanging out with someone in person 😭 it makes it so much easier to feel like im part of a bigger community as opposed to the videos that sacrifice quality for the sake of 'the algorithm, or the ones that are just kind of ads for craft stores n such, if that makes sense 😅
@@1star_god thank you so much!!! Your comment makes me feel so much better about an online/live class I’ll be teaching this Fall.😀
That rotating soldering platform is clever. What was the stuff you were spraying on the stack of beads? Thanks for showing how to do this. I recently tried making oblong beads, and made a mess of it. You make round beads seem almost possible for me, the amateur. Edit - Never mind - I read answers to my questions in the comments. Thanks!
@@beowoofthemoviestar thank you, I love being able to rotate my pieces. It’s flux in a spray bottle.
Beautiful ring!!
@@gjk540 thank you!!
Great idea with the silver tape!
@@gjk540 saves some wear and tear on your hands for sure.😀
Do you know how to order from bear skull? Is there a website. He hasn’t been active on instagram in months and doesn’t respond to his messages. Thx✌️
@@user-jy4bw3zl2k I’m not sure anymore myself. I hope he’s ok, I’ve also noticed that he’s not been active on instagram or Facebook in months.
@@amuckdesign ya I was wondering the same thing. Hope he is ok also, and thanks for getting back to me appreciate it :)
Yes would love conical bolo tip tutorial please
@@TheTaliswoman check out the video called bolo tip with bead, it shows how to make the conical tips.😀 thanks for watching!!!
Very cool, thanks!
@@user-op1yy5br4o you’re welcome, thank you so much for watching.😊
Yes copper and silver look really good together. Thank you!
I was not sure what you were making, by the end it was quite satisfying.
@@mindseyeproductions8798 thank you.😃 I’m constantly trying to come up with new ways to display my work.
What wire gauge works best for this method?
This is so awesome it definitely deserves more attention
These are so original! I love it
@@imilkbongs thank you! I can’t unsee tail feathers 😂
Brilliant all around ! 🙌🏼
Thank you 🙌
Thanks for the video. I like the technique of using the pliars to open the jump ring into an oval. Would it not be easier to wrap around an oval former?
It would be easier if you happen to have an oval former.
Awesome, thanks for the vid. I will be making some tomorrow just as you've showed!
Have fun making your tips!!
Thank you!❤
Love the mixed metals - beautiful!🩷
Thank you! I thought they came out really pretty with the mixed metals too.
Yes please make more bolo tip designs! I love bolos and have a vintage collection and wear them often. Thanks for the video lesson❤
Oh cool!! I’ll bet that’s a fun collection.
Very nice...!!!
Thank you so much
You’re very welcome, thank you so much for watching.😀
Oh my gosh takes so long to make. I never knew this. You have a great talent.
Thank you so much! I really have to psyche myself up in order to make a batch for sure.😄
Love this
Thanks Angela!😀
Perfect!
That’s a lot of skulls!😮💀
A full morning of cutting.💀
That’s so cool! I especially love the noise that the silver ingot makes when it pops out of the roll mill. 😅
Isn’t that hilarious!!😂
You are so good at this! Mine came out with wonky seams. Practice makes perfect
They can definitely be tricky!
Thanks for the new video:) May I ask ask you a question? I’m trying to make large fat links for a necklace. I’m using 9g 1/2 round and no matter what I do including using the nylon tipped pliers and still I can’t stop from marring the links. I’m trying to get them to meet perfectly so they’ll solder nicely but in trying to manipulate the tight dimensions of the rings they get really mucked up. I have also tried annealing them after cutting them. Is there a trick to this?
Unfortunately I don’t have a recommendation beyond what you’re already doing. I always have a little cleanup of the metal rings myself.
@@amuckdesignokay, yeah, I’m doing the same thing. The thicker the wire the tougher it is the bend it to where it is seamless eh? Thank you so much for responding:)your videos are really so helpful. I appreciate them very much.
@@Shukarr yeah definitely gets more difficult with heavier gauges. Thank you so much, I appreciate your comment.😃
I like the bolo tie but it's rarely worn in the northeastern US. Thanks for the share and i'll give it a try.
I like them too, I just wore one the other day rather than grabbing my usual necklaces.😀
Use a nice hard wood instead of the nasty soft stuff !!!
The “nasty soft stuff” is much easier to cut with a knife. As this was my first attempt, I thought I’d keep it simple. Besides, it’s not like anyone will be attaching an anchor to it or anything.
oval links instead of rectangles !!!
Yes well, rectangle links are just a bit easier with a knife than oval links are. As this was my first attempt I figured I’d keep it simple.
Little clean up though;)
Great idea! Thank you so much for your videos
Thank you for watching! I’m happy to share.😀
I’ve found some comparatively inexpensive presses on Etsy. The potter USA ones are too much as are the Bonny doon. Did your press come with the steel parts /accessories you show in this video ?
It came with the gold colored steel frame around the press yes.
I meant the parts that you use to balance the pancake dies on. I’m trying to figure out if I went for the Etsy press what I would need in order to use it. I’m finding hammering is causing my wrists to really ache these days so I think a press could be super helpful.
@@Shukarr I bought the steel blocks separately from RioGrande and one was a scrap that I found.
Ahh I see okay thank you :)
❤❤❤
Love how it turned out! I’m on a bolo tie journey, and I’d love to see a video on how you did the back side of the bolo, how the cord is being held tight enough.
Absolutely, I could certainly do a short video on a couple of bolo back mechanisms. I’ll make one this week.
so around the 15.00 min mark when you joined them together now having 7 links, I noticed you used flux but no additional solder.. is that because there was enough on there from the beginning? I do not know if I'm missing a step that you did.. thanks..
You are correct, there was already enough solder on them from when we soldered the ring shut in order to stretch it.
I’m confused, did just heating the metal make it fuse to itself? It seemed like you just shaped the beads, stacked them, and heated. What causes them to stick together? What are those tiny pieces of metal or something you put in to some of the bead halves?
Those were solder chips that I placed in to the bead halves.
Awesome set of videos thank you for the time and hard work!!! question I just bought a SB necklace for my wife and it has a very thin chain holding it all together. I want to replace that chain with something stronger. What do you use for the wire to restring? also how do you get the connection smooth where it joins? crimp or solder?
Thank you so much! I use beading chain which can look pretty thin, yours might be ok as is. If I feel I can solder I will but otherwise just a crimp is perfect.
Nice where did you purchase them?
I purchased these at engraver.com
Handy tip from the world of Bushcraft: If you're doing this with copper or brass, you can heat the cut pieces of tubing with a torch first (look for a quick color change) and let them cool completely. This anneals the metal and makes it more malleable and less prone to cracking. Copper work-hardens and with repeated hammering, can break.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great video I had never seen a pair of hoops made like these awesome easy project
It really is, I don’t know why I don’t make more hoops!😄
Will this cut 0.048" thick stainless steel?
No, this wouldn’t work for stainless steel. Durston says it will cut 2mm mild steel though.
Wow what a great video, I have been watching your wonderful videos on cold connections I haven't done a lot of them and your way of doing them is great . Can I ask where you got the blue tool make the marks on the metal for drilling?
Thank you nancy! I picked those up at my local hardware store, they would be in the aisle with drill bits.
Ok,. I think I fixed it!
I am a TV Producer and truly this is sooo good. I am also blown away by your work and creativity! Not sure why my user name is so weird, will try to sign in and comment again! @UCOvSY02NukASGNI0UqzEX4g@UCOvSY02NukASGNI0UqzEX4g
this is amazing!
Thank you!! It was a fun video to make.
Great tip
Thank you Lisha😃
Really a neat way to make a clasp . The fold over portion was great.
I love making a tab from inside another design element.😀
Just fantastic as always, love the tips they are amazing. You are so creative. Love the silver and copper together looks great.
Thank you, I really liked the look of the two together as well. Was just looking at them yesterday thinking time to finish that bolo tie!
Oh it is going to be amazing I can't wait lol. You are doing a great job creating it. Now you have inspired me to make a one squash blossom pendant I haven't a single blossom in gosh a couple of years so I need to try it again. Thank you for this series maybe in a few years I will challenge myself to a whole squash blossom pendant lol
I’m trying to pump myself up to make another this summer.😄🤞
