Hello Rene, I find your work awesome, and you are a lucky guy not needing the paperwork in Belgium... I desperately need a Cali 1100 with a sidecar, preferably a leaner sidecar, to import in my country, because, over here (Romania) , it is almost impossible to add a sidecar to a solo motorbike, on the papers. I already own a MG V65 in restauration process and a MG LM3, but for the sidecar, I would like a more relaxed bike, like the cali 1100. Do you happen to have any suggestion on how could I get one of these combinations already built and with the paperwork OK in the easiest manner? Once the sidecar is added to the papers of the motorbike in a western country, Romanian autorities will accept this and make the paperwork accordingly. Thanks in advance. Victor
Hi Victor, glad you asked! Mine was initially built in Holland, but most manufactories of leaners are located in Germany, Switzerland and France: Kalich, Zigzag etc.. They need to do the paperwork and when you import it’s easier.
Hi Rene, nice project! How much is the lean angle towards the sidecar? Is that enough? I have a homebuild leaner sidecar as well and I regularly wish for more lean angle towards the sidecar.
Thanks for the feedback! Lean angle: due to the low exhaust I can lean around 35/40 degrees. Would be nice to lean to 45 degrees, but that is only necessary when riding aggressively.
Hi Rene, I notice your front pivot mount is higher than the rear. That is excellent as it steers the sidecar rather than scrub the tyre. Are those Rose Joints Rod End Bearings? Meaning do they have a bearing or a bush? I am so glad you took photos of it leaning. When it is leaning toward the sidecar, what is the bike resting on, I can't tell from the photo? When you park, do you rest the bike on the side kick stand? I notice you have left the right rear indicator attached. I think this will bring confusion to other road users. I removed my indicator on my sidecar and had it passed for approval without it attached. To be more specific, when you are turning right there will be two indicators flashing, that usually indicates a hazard. I also notice you have removed the right rear pannier (saddle bag), that was a good choice for clearance. Who made the boat (tub), what make is it? Thank you for sharing your build with us. I have shared your video on Haul N Ride. www.haulnride.com/motorcycle-leaner-sidecar-homemade-projects I look forward to the answer to my questions. It looks awesome.
Sorry, I meant to say "I removed my rear motorcycle right indicator on my sidecar build". Dave
The lean should be limited by a proper metal stud, but I didn’t mount that yet.
The tub has been made by Kalich or Tripteq
Thanks for your positive remarks, it’s constructive ;)
Very nice! Great job.
Thanks, I'm happy I found one second-hand to finish off ;)
