It's biological. Women can not produce as many kids as men because of the gestation period. A man can impregnate a different woman every day, a woman can only give birth to a child every 9 months to a year. They need to find quality males to ensure quality offspring. Men can impregnate many women and ensure some quality offspring by virtue of the numbers. Women find men who have achieved a higher status attractive, and that comes with age. Men find fertile women attractive and that is lost with age. It's not any more "toxic" than gravity pulling you towards the earth and not the sky. Women had their high level of attractiveness earlier, and lose it later. Men have their high level of attractiveness later having not been attractive earlier. It balances out but seems unfair to women because they feel like they lost something they have a right to, whereas men gain high position from having had a low position and don't feel like they lost anything. It's a matter of perception that makes this feel like a negative to women even though it's actually quite an equal system. Women feel like they lost out by peaking earlier even though the transition point for both is about 35 years old, when women start to lose their attentiveness but men gain theirs.
