มุมมอง 27K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Short video lesson on how to make a pattern for a wet felted hat. Tools & materials. How to measure your head. Calculations for shrinkage. Drawing & cutting out your pattern. Making a resist.
what about a brim?!!
Big hugs Master, wherever you now are! Your work will remain as a reflection of your love for Nature, thank you for inspiring so many of us, still being hearth walkers.

Thank you, Brigitte, for the shrinking tip, it is certainly a very important detail... just guessing would not be the best way
💜
I so needed this, thank you! Perfect timing 🤗 Have a blessed holiday and a Merry Christmas!
Thank you that was awesome!💜
Para hacer estos sombreros es necesario tener los moldes de madera???
Muchas gracias.Quiero preguntarle por favor si esas medidas sirven solo para ese tipo de sombreros. Agradeceria su respuesta. Hermosos trabajos
Did you add an additional few inches to the vertical line? Your end pattern is a few inches longer
well Done ! thank you very much
Do these allowance measurement also work for any other felted clothing products? Great tutorial and information...thankyou
Surely, you should measure the hat block not your head. After all, the size is determined by the hat block...
Can you help me understand the additional length you added to your pattern and resist? If you mentioned it in the video, I missed it. How much extra is needed? Yours appeared to be a few inches. Is it always the same? Thank you! I'm excited to try making my first wool felt hat!
I am also very curious about the answer to this question. Did you find the answer?
how did you come up with the shrinkage calculation
Great question. And thank you for your positive response. Your encouragement, as well as from others is inspiration to make another video showing the process of wet felting a hat. I'm checking my calendar for an opportunity. Yes, the pattern is flat. To make the felt hood, we will cover both sides of the pattern (now known as a "resist") with wool roving. This is the felted together using warm soapy water and your fingers. It can take several hours !!! When all the wool fibres are matted together, we remove the resist pattern. The resulting felt hood/hat is basically bowl shaped. Kind of like a pita bread, sliced in half and opened for filling. From here we stretch the hood onto the hat block for shaping and drying. Hope this gives you a bit of an idea. I'll get on top of that next video.
but then what? its flat so how are you gonna use it to shape the hat? please, you are so great,, make another video <3
Thanks for watching and for your comments. You are correct Guylaine, the resist pattern will be larger than your head size. When the roving is felted, it does shrink. Remember that the resist will be felted on both sides. The two, together will make for the larger dimensions needed. These are the calculations to use to increase the dimensions for the circumference and ear to ear measurements: Divide both numbers by 2 and multiple by 1.4. For example: A circumference of 20 inches - divided by 2 = 10. 10 multiplied by 1.4 = 14. 14 inches will be the new measurement for the circumference. (horizontal line) An ear to ear measurement of 12 inches - divided by 2 = 6. 6 multiplied by 1.4 = 8.4 8.4 inched (or round up to 9) will be the new measurement for the ear to ear measurement. (vertical line). I hope this helps. I will be adding a new video soon, going over the steps and process of actually making the hat. Brigitte
