The Random Alpha Drive
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 22 ส.ค. 2020
This is something we do everyday in our life. We travel to work, we run errands, we visit friends and family. Yet, finding a vehicle to help your lifestyle and work isn't as easy as it seems. The automotive industry is saturated with options, so many options it's hard to choose. I'm Alpha DeWolf. A professional idiot that obsesses over the small details that no one even cares about. Small details that define everything we use to get things done. On The Random Alpha Drive, I'm going to review and compare the car world's many offerings to make buying a car easier than ever. It's the small details that add up. This... is The Random Alpha Drive.
A Message to Out of Spec... Why No Aptera Coverage?
This video is a message to the team over at @OutofSpecReviews . I'm not looking to cause any drama (Don't even think about it internet trolls!), I'm just looking for answers and calling out what I believe is an unfair bias against a particular automaker.

Why does Kyle matter so much?
Investors like myself in Aptera know that our money may just go away. That's the whole nature of investing. I'm invested because I believe in the vision of having an ultra efficient vehicle on the road to show the direction we should be moving in for our personal vehicles. Let's stop making bigger vehicles and showing more batteries into them and having them just look like the ICE vehicles that they're replacing. Anyone excited about the concept and are looking forward to it should a least want people t know about it, because it help get it exposure and in doing so, helps get it to market.
Good for you.
Building vehicles are hard. Go figure.
They should have multiple vehicles ready for test drives within the next couple of months. It may be somewhat longer before they let reviewers drive the vehicle. They would want to have more than one or two drivable spares, and have insurance on them. But eventually they are planning to let customers test drive the vehicles. We can just wait and see. If the criteria for "real" is that you can drive it, then that should happen this year.
There's a criteria called 'fit for purpose' that goes beyond real, and Aptera has to meet it.
@@aussieideasman8498 I'm not sure what you mean. If it works as intended the Aptera is certainly fit for purpose. If you are trying to say that Aptera has not yet proven that they can meet the range estimates and solar panel generation they have stated, then the performance of Hermes at CES seems to be in keeping with those estimates. If anything, the solar performed better in shade and indirect light than expected. As I said, if testing confirms the numbers seen at CES, then we will see. Those numbers can be extrapolated to summer and the rest of the year, and the confirmed by this summer. Wait and see.
@@richardryley3660 "I'm not sure what you mean." You will soon. "If it works as intended the Aptera is certainly fit for purpose." Correct, but presently it doesn't even exist and you are hoping it will at a future date - a date that has been promised often and has passed every time. Prototypes don't count. The purpose of a prototype is very different from that of a product, and they have built fakes that do less than they claim. There hasn't even been a worthy prototype so far. Happy to argue the toss as deeply as you need to go to realize the facts and come down from la-la land. "If you are trying to say that Aptera has not yet proven that they can meet the range estimates and solar panel generation they have stated, then the performance of Hermes at CES seems to be in keeping with those estimates." "Seems" doesn't cut it. It has to be verified, and that done properly. Aptera is not allowed to verify its own claims. They know that, but ignore it and keep pretending to the gullible that they can. First they sold the con that in-house CFD was acceptable and even pretended you can count on it being under 5% inaccurate. Then they bended to public pressure and promised real tests, but have yet to do it, and will do it wrongly when they eventually get around to it. I remind you that Herpes was supposed to have that done and ready to reveal at CES. At CES Aunty told the cretin they had a test track booked late January. Well, it's February - heard anything? The state of Herpes at CES was incapable of giving any useful performance figures. It had no wheel pants; no NVH materials; no aircon unit; no window motors; no glass on about 70% of the solar; no interior trim and no ABS. In that state, it doesn't have the correct weight or the aerodynamics to get a real result. Only a genuine production vehicle can be used - wheel pants and everything else on, and those pants at the right ride height. This is what I mean. And what they did claim looked like more lies - wait for independent results after they get the test machine right. "If anything, the solar performed better in shade and indirect light than expected." No it didn't. In an earlier video Farm-bro got 10 watts with the sun below the horizon, so they were expecting better at CES, but saying they did worse than expected isn't going to suck in the mum's and dads so they fed you the snake oil. Calculations by many of us skeptics has shown that a properly fitted out PI is very likely to get over 40% less performance than they claimed, and that's a long way off 5%. Honestly - do you believe Aunty saying on the first day they did 25 miles and had 29 miles produced by solar alone? It never happened and they will never replicate it with independent testers testing. "As I said, if testing confirms the numbers seen at CES, then we will see." As I said, we will probably not see testing done properly, and you will be sold the snake oil again. Heaven knows, you have all swallowed it a hundred times already. "Those numbers can be extrapolated to summer and the rest of the year, and the confirmed by this summer." Which reminds me of the concerns about winter performance of the 3-wheel configuration. About three winters ago they told those who questioned them it would be done next winter, and that has yet to be done. They know how quickly fanboys forget. I don't forget, and recall it took them months to replace one wheel pant on Gamma. The four BINC's they got are about two years' old, and there should have been a dozen more delivered shortly after. Talk of making a million by 2033 are exaggerations not supported by the snail's pace they have always shown, yet at the same time Aunty bragged about knocking three months of a schedule to make CES. It's some of the strongest snake oil I have heard. Those undercooked fakes will probably still not be finished by the start of Q2. "Wait and see." It's what they always want from you. At the end of the wait they ask you to wait some more - ad infinitum, lol. This is what I mean, and it's going on my latest video.
@aussieideasman8498 The production intent is not a prototype. We will indeed see very soon, within the next couple of months, what the statistics of the final product will be Of course there will still be people claiming that the numbers are falsified and the vehicles are not "real". You will probably still be claiming that when there are Aptera's driving around in the hands of customers.
@@richardryley3660 "The production intent is not a prototype." The PI IS a prototype. They originally mapped out 4 stages of prototypes and this is Delta - the last stage. They just keep swapping names so you fanboys lose track of everything. Production comes after Delta, and has no 'Intent' attached. Look up the dictionary for the meaning of intent. "We will indeed see very soon, within the next couple of months, what the statistics of the final product will be" I have covered the "wait and see" nonsense. I don't run on a mouse wheel. "Of course there will still be people claiming that the numbers are falsified and the vehicles are not "real"." They are the one's who are correct. Take notice of them. "You will probably still be claiming that when there are Aptera's driving around in the hands of customers." I will wait another six months or so and if owners are mostly satisfied I will apologize. In fact, if they are as good as they make out, I will buy one.
Aptera is a great idea. Too many compromises being made in the attempt to get a production ready vehicle. I can understand why OOSR don't want to do a review at present, especially now the EV market is in dire straits.
Money for nothing.
@@aussieideasman8498 He's banging on the bongos like a chimpanzee
The other channels that cover Aptera make it clear that Aptera isn't in production yet. They could do a video of it and really trash it. Maybe they fear the wrath of Aptera supporters, I don't know. I, personally, don't care if OoS covers it or not. I've watched several of their videos and I think they're kinda boring. They remind me of reviews of cars from the 70s in magazines.
The way I see it, their channel their content. Theres other channels that cover the exposure/information you're looking for. It does not have to be just one particular channel.
Yes, but if you want to be taken seriously, then be consistent in what you review and how you review it.
Aptera has been around, in one form or another, since 2006. If they worked as hard at getting the autocycle produced and on the road, as they do, raising funds. The motorcycle/autocycle would have been on the market 10 years ago. I agree with not reviewing an autocycle that can not be purchased by the public.
Scout has two companies involved with many billions of dollars. Porsche is part of VW Group with tens of billions of dollars. Fisker had a billion dollars. Vinfast has burned billions of dollars already. Aptera has double digit millions of dollars. Now Tesla started with that kind of money, but sixteen years after their production started everyone else who tried to launch with less than a billion, and most who had less than five billion, never made a car. When Faraday Future announced that they would be the next great car company, I publicly posted that they didn’t have enough capital, and their founder was a multi billionaire at the time. Show Kyle the money and I bet he is not as convinced it is vaporware. But with the amounts they have, maybe they make twenty cars and then go under, best case.
I've never seen OOS review a motorcycle...which is what the Aptera technically is.
They’ve reviewed a few Zero Electric Motorcycles. And whatever the Arcimoto thing is.
In 48 states it's classified as an autocycle.
@@tims8603 Without the same safety standards cars are required to have. I'm all for efficiency, but it's kind of useless to me if I'm dead after what would be a fender bender in a car.
@@TheRandomAlphaDrive Thanks. I've missed those.
@@pa60pilot I think you're exaggerating a bit. Aptera has a carbon fiber passenger compartment with side impact protection and a steel roll cage built into the roof. It has crush absorption built into the front and the chassis is designed to go under the passenger compartment in a frontal crash. Tens of thousands of people are fatally injured in car crashes in the US every year. Most of those are in cars that have passed those safety standards you mentioned. No vehicle is totally safe. Aptera is somewhere between a motorcycle and an automobile. Much safer than a motorcycle but maybe not as safe as an automobile of truck. I'm 70 years old, been driving for over 50 years and I've never been in a collision while driving on the road. Most 'accidents' aren't really accidents. They're caused by bad drivers and carelessness.
It's because Aptera is a ponzi scheme. They do an awesome job of convincing people such as yourself that it's real and for people to invest million, only for them to come out and say they need more money. The Aptera would have been cool in 2020, maybe 2021. They have missed their shot and it's likely because most of their claims are BS and they can't back them up. There is zero need for a massive production plant to build something that won't sell well. They should have started low production models in 2020/2021 and gotten cars on the road, but they didn't and just keep asking for more money and push delivery dates back again.
People have been able to drive it.
I am sure he would do a video, if Aptera would actually have production ready prototype, which they DONT HAVE
Y s they do have a pi built
Kyle seems to have taken the stance that the car is not yet delivered and hence for the moment it's vaporware. He has a reputation for his channel being facts based so that is a completely reasonable stance. However, Aptera seems to have taken all steps to make sure they are using their resources efficiently and moving so that they don't run of funding. They secured manufacturers, they are gearing for smaller expenses and a small production to get profitable earlier. They didn't jump the gun like Fisker and Canoo did, they didn't waste funds in flashy marketing and overpaid leadership, they have a solid chance. I am also hopeful for Aptera. Will reserve one as soon as they're in the clear. I'm in Atlantic Canada here so they wouldn't serve me for a few years (I can't even get a Rivian here yet). Scout is a joint venture with large companies involved and it's very likely to come to market. Fisker did come to market. Prototype porches are likely to come to market. I think Kyle has been burned by Fisker's failure and wants to keep his data solid
I only want them to cover the Aptera as long as they do their research. If they do they will find that the Aptera is all good and production is around the corner. They need to go right now to Carlsbad and drive the production ready Pi's, take a tour of the assembly line, talk to Chris and get the real facts. Things like: - 40 miles per day from solar - 1000 mile range - F1 safety - Carbon Fiber - Efficiency - Solar - Italian Supercar performance - Production starts this year - Cut and Paste assembly plants - Cheapest EV you can buy in the US - Safe as a car - Aerodynamic - Massive amount of cargo space - Never rusts - Generational vehicle (your great great grandkids will be driving yours) - Right to repair - Just scan a QR code and everything you need is right there - Super simple to work on - Sandy Monroe - 12 minutes to build - Most successful crowdfunding ever So, I gave those guys over on that channel a heads up by posting here and now they will be at Aptera soon, thus give a glowing report of the product and company. I thank you for being a mover and shaker in the world of YT. Plus, when will you be at Aptera and give your report? Aptera needs you now.
They won’t let me drive it. Once they let me drive it I’ll review it. Keep up the videos! I’m super excited to buy one once it’s real
Glad to see that you responded to this video, as a fan of Aptera and Out of Spec Reviews I have always been disappointed that you all haven't covered @apteramotors but have covered other vehicles even before being able to drive them. You should reach out now that CES is over and schedule a drive, even if it needs to be in the near future.
@ they know I want to drive it! I spoke to them at length to find any way to film / drive it ahead of CES - they told me it wasn’t ready (braking system issues). Idk why this had to be a video but whatever 🤣🙌
If people are making videos about your video... well, congrats Kyle, your channel and team has done well. As far as Aptera goes, I look forward to when they are ready to let you drive it, and you get to review it.
Yes I really look forward to having Out of Spec test the Aptera.
No need to drive it. Just go there and look at the tech, efficiency and the demand. That's all you need to know. This is not like the other EV startups, Aptera is different. Just so you know the Pi's at CES were production ready. That's a fact as they put it in their press release. Companies never do that if it's premature. Unless you start covering the company regularly, then you will be left out on the biggest revolution in transportation since the Moller Skycar.
In Kyle's defense, he did do a very short clip from a far, as he walk by the Aptera booth telling us he is not doing a review until it is out at CES 2025.
Not much of defense, since most of Kyle's comments were negative. When the most positive guy in the world says negative things (rather than just saying nothing), that's more like a slap in the face.
Good call YELLOW JOURNALISM is way too popular!!!
Kyle considers the company vaporware. He has been offered/invited multiple times to test drive the gamma and even the PI build at CES. I would rather him keep his distance as the consumer faith in EV startups is shaken due to several EV startups that have failed up until this point. I would rather wait for Aptera to get it right than have another cyber truck incident that becomes difficult to recover from.
Are you certain he has "been offered/invited multiple times to test drive the gamma and even the PI build at CES"? I think you lie. If there are offers, there is evidence, so please provide it in a response - otherwise, that's a lie, and Kyle has been refused drives (joyrides don't count as drives).
@@aussieideasman8498 yes I’ve asked many times. They won’t let me drive it yet - the latest is due to braking issues (no power brakes) according to Chris their CEO
@@KyleConner There's probably more to it than just the brake excuse, but they just give one that doesn't seem that bad. One would have to be gullible to believe those two CEO's.
They let Drew from Tailosive drive the Gamma and a few others. I don't believe Kyle when he says they won't let him drive it. Maybe he means the PI track Aptera.
@@tims8603 - Why drive the Gamma? It would be like Ford letting you drive a 2015 Mustang but not a 2025. The Gamma shares very little with the Pi. So, it's a waste of everyones time to keep driving the Gamma. Plus, why drive the Pi2. Again a waste of time to ride to drive it. It's like taking a new car and stripping out the interior and pretty much everything else except for the blower motor. Then letting people drive it. Nothing like they are going to sell. Instead, the Pi4 is what everyone wanted to ride and drive. It's production ready, so why Aptera just let it sit is beyond me.
Aptera does not deserve the attention of established channels if Aptera refuses to meet their requirements. Aptera has PAID some larger channels to do a paid product placement but Out of Spec does is not offering that. There are many channels Aptera can pay to have reviews and commentary favorable to them. So your whining is ridiculous. Plus you are just repeating unverified claims Aptera has made and they have actually partially walked back some of their numbers. Their CEO already admitted that though it has 700w of cells they cannot all be in use at once because of position. The vast majority will not even consider a two wheel vehicle let alone a three vehicle. Finally no one is going to trade their safety for what amounts to less than a dollar a day in gains over a traditional EV. You do realize their vehicle being used for test rides cannot be driven by anyone but an Aptera employee because it does not even have power brakes, yeah just like Gamma its basically manual brakes and more. It is that much of thrown together demonstration vehicle. Beyond that obvious safety issue it certainly is not safe enough to let anyone drive and anyone riding in it is risking their health because a wreck will not be pleasant in a vehicle with no airbags or the safety expected out of a full enclosed cabin.
You have barely scratched the surface of how undercooked the CES displays were, while Aunt Tony was saying they are production intent examples of what customers would get. He said the only difference was some parts are hand crafted and were identical to what will be made on a production line they have yet to get. So what will you get, going from the CES examples? In PI4 (Apollo) No motor; no brakes; no ABS; no glass on roof and hatch; no a/c unit; a fake screen; even rumoured no battery - try driving your around, lol. In PI2 (Hermes) - or as I call it, Herpes No power assist brakes; no ABS; no glass on roof and hatch; no a/c unit; a fake screen; no interior trim; no yoke; probably no window motor; no wheel pants; - try registering it? Pretty soon, this dweeb will have us blocked, lol. I'm preserving this.
Kyle is full of himself. That's just the way he is.
If Kyle gives a glowing report of Aptera, then he's a great guy and we will all kike and subscribe to him.
yes let kyle do a real review about the state of Aptera company they will be crushed
Sorry man. This wasn’t a terrorist attack. It’s a sad veteran statistic.
I dont think i've seen anyone suggest that particular cybertruk caught on fire due to the battery pack and not the huge haul of explosive materials in the back that were set off as part of a terror incident...so i'd say your reporting is a tad pointless.
I’ve had so many friends and family think otherwise. They told me they think the battery exploded and that was what set the explosives on fire.
0:10 I understand, for this is the only time today that I can view this video.
I'm always intrigued when I get video recommendations from up and coming TH-camrs. Good video by the way. My only critique would be the way that you pronounce Hyundai. I know that whenever we Anglicize a word, we often leave out subtle inflections, and the name Hyundai is no exception. A slowed down way of pronouncing Hyundai would look roughly like Hee-yun-dae. In reality, the Hee-yun part is squished together into a single syllable with a very short 'e' sound. 👍
Yep... that "Kia" adapter is going to end up in some random rental car someday. How do I know? Because the Kia EV6 I rented from Hertz had a AC charger for a Polestar in the back of it :)
Wow Cool
❤
I drive manual transmission and whenever possible I either use engine breaking or shifting into neutral to decelerate. I think its very funny haha learn to deal with my vehicle slowing down without a light telling you 👿
Great car. I used to live in Marquette, side note lol. Anyways, I found your video just randomly searching, since I just bought a 2019 Lacrosse Essence, and love it. Your video showed me stuff I didn't know about, to include that its a hybrid. The used car dealer didn't know about it, and neither did I lol. I've started to pay attention to that system to see how it works and how it can benefit with greater gas mileage. Also unlocking the truck by pushing the emblem. I do like how the rear of the car looks, it seems clean and uncluttered. Also the wireless phone charger, which I can't really use, since my I-Phone with the case can't fit in there. Its simply the best Sport/Luxury car I've had in a long time. When I lived in the UP, I had an 84 Cougar which I loved, but the extreme weather up there killed it. I hope your car is good in the snow. My car lives in FL, where its just too damn hot most of the time lol. My car is White, a color I didnt really want, but most cars are white here which helps with temperature control and dirtiness.
Hello, what type of transmission?
Watch until the end. You’ll get your answer.
I agree 100% for queuing, towing, convenience, etc.... for god's sake, just copy the gas station style and put EV chargers on it. Why do they have to reinvent the wheel. That's why for charging, I might just prioritize the Pilot/Flying J/GM Energy sites once they get fully built out. ...because that's exactly what they did. They're the only company I know that is doing that, and I don't understand why others aren't.
It seems you don’t know anything about this vehicle …poor report
Relax! They're using Alpitronics
Just came across your video. I have almost the exact duplicate, color, options and all . Except I believe mine has a handling package option as it's great on curvy roads , very little roll, tight steering. And it has the 11 speaker Bose sound system. I love mine too. Loved your tutorial. Thx. 😎
Beautiful car.
19:37 GM’s cost-cutting with lacking auto-up rear windows is stupid given that all of the windows in my 2014 Mercedes-Benz C300 automatically go up and down via pushing buttons.
Just bought a 99' manual ranger xlt, love the thing. My first manual and its perfect for hauling firewood, tools and gear.
It takes more energy to produce hydrogen then what you get out of burning hydrogen.
Worst car I ever owned
Good luck get use to seeing service stabitak
Out of all the many GM Cars that both my immediate and extended family have owned, only one vehicle has had that light come on, just once. Plus in the winter time I don’t it becomes I’d get stuck if I did.
Usually low battery in my enclave, or battery is going bad. Disable auto stop especially when battery is low. When stabilitrac light comes on.
Go into settings and change sport to touring, you'll get rid of that speedometer, I keep my enclave in touring. I'm noticing this looks like a car version of my SUV. But mine is the avenir, not sure if that's why I have touring.
I know about the different gauge screen designs. I don’t like the touring one however. Besides there’s also a speedometer readout for the sport gauges so it’s not too big of an issue.
Parking on the left side of the street pointing against traffic is illegal in Canada. Pretty sure it's the same in the States. Charge ports should be on the drivers side to emulate a Tesla so it's easier to charge at a Tesla Supercharger.
It may depend on where you are, because I do know there are some places where you can park on the left side of a 2 way street. Most of the time it’s in quiet residential neighborhoods, but last I checked it’s not completely illegal. Then you have one way streets like I demonstrated where street parking tends to be more common.
@@TheRandomAlphaDrive You're correct, there can be exceptions to the rule by municipalities. But in general, it is illegal. Here is the clause in BC, Canada: Except when a municipality, a treaty first nation, the Nisg̱a'a Nation, a Nisg̱a'a Village or the minister responsible for the administration of the Transportation Act permits, a driver must not stop, stand or park a vehicle on a roadway other than on the right side of the roadway and with the right hand wheels parallel to that side, and where there is a curb, within 30 cm of the curb. Cheers.
Kia will be selling a vehicle with NACS in October.
Lovely shape suv but what a pain trying to charge it , imagine doing this in gusty freezing conditions or heavy gusty rain or both 😢😢😢
YESSSIR
'cause they want us to use fossil fuels
Very interesting video but one topic you didn't cover was the environmental issue. Which is the reason that we are even talking about electric cars.
Salute Sir
