Western Jaguar
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 11 มี.ค. 2014
Born in a bedroom in Mission, British Columbia, Western Jaguar is the ever-evolving musical endeavour of multi-instrumentalist, Jeffrey Trainor. Throughout Western Jaguar’s history, Trainor has and continues to collaborate with a wide array of friends and artists to bring his music to life, often performing alongside many of them. Taking influence from artists such as Foals, Sam Fender, Allvays and The 1975, Western Jaguar's sonic footprint creates an unmatched mix of indie rock, dream pop and shoegaze. On top of this, Western Jaguar were the winners of a 2019 Fraser Valley Music Award for "Live Performer of the Year" and have built a reputation as an authentic and spirited live performer throughout their over 80 performances throughout Western Canada. Heralded for their "signature reverb-heavy guitars, throbbing bass and high-voltage percussion," Western Jaguar is a welcome addition to any lineup, music festival or playlist.
The Vocal Microphone You’ve Been Looking For? (Shure SM7-B)
Many herald the SM7-B as the best microphone for home studios, so I put it to the test against my standard to see if that's truly the case... the results may surprise you!

SM7Bs have lost a lot of quality and sound since they are made in China. It's not worth paying that much money for junk.
That actually would make sense. Changing where it’s made and the parts used could make a huge difference. Maybe it’d be worth comparing against an older one! Interesting idea 💡
I encourage you to do such a test and leave a review as soon as possible. If Shure is looking for cheaper production, then perhaps they are also looking for cheaper, i.e. worse components for their production. Currently, the Rode Procaster wins over the SM7B even though it is more than twice as cheap. And your SM7B is China? or Mexico?
Thanks for the great review. I've always been curious about this microphone. I thought being a dynamic one would make a difference with the untreated room reflections, I can actually notice that someway using ole SM58. But for what you say, no game changer. Perhaps one needs to leap to much more expensive ones to notice real differences. Anyway it seems like a handy mic for recording other instruments too. Have you tried recording an amped guitar?.
I have not tried it with guitars yet but it is on my list to try for sure! Definitely a handy mic to have in the mic locker, that’s for sure!
I've always been an NT-1 hater (probably just because it doesn't flatter my particular voice) but I actually preferred it in the blind comparison. Also, major props for having the balls to share your unprocessed vocal takes with the with the world like that 😆
Haha thank you. I was honestly cringing so hard at the raw vocals but it was necessary to see the differences! I have a love/hate relationship with the NT-1 - I always think it isn’t that great but something about it just keeps me in on it. I really dig it on acoustic guitars and vocally it seems to fit my voice pretty good! Also like the MD-421 from time to time
Thank you WJ for being a real one and not praising that thing for it's brand and offering a real review. The truth is dynamics aren't a game changer for reflections or anything else. If the mic is quality enough to be a game changer... it's going to hear an echo just as well as it's condenser counterparts. Where the SM7B really shines is being able to be very dynamic without clipping. You can be much louder on a dynamic without clipping the signal chain which makes them amazing for expressive dynamics. I feel like everyone that reviews them kind of puts them on a pedestal they shouldn't be on. They are a different tool, not necessarily a better tool. Great review and great song man.
Believe me, I went in with every intention to crown this microphone as a game changer because really that’s all I had heard from others! But ya, the results kinda stunned me. I try to just be authentic to me and it was pretty clear that in my set up, which I think is similar to lots of people who record at home, it wasn’t that big of a difference in the quality. I think it’s another good reminder to use what you got! What you have is good enough!
I have an SM-7B as well, and I love having it in my arsenal. I used it for the vocals on “Another Day off the Calendar”. My go-to for lead vocals is my Lewitt 441 Flex; the question is usually: Do I want that more condensor-mic-ish detail with the Lewitt, or do I want a warmer, slightly more analog-ish sound and if so, I go 7B
Yeah I definitely don’t think the SM7-B is a “do everything well mic” but that being said, it definitely does have something to it. I plan on keeping it!
Is this one the analog or digital version? Pink, Blue, or Black bottom label?
This one is the digital one I believe. Black bottom and was manufactured in August 2002.
Excellent pedal..!!...Have found my Retrosonic Chorus sounds close to the original CE 1.....Which we all should have bought in the first place...!!!...They were expensive at around £130...in 1976 here in UK..built like a tank..to last forever...!!!...I was too busy with marriage and motorbikes to manage it then...!!!!!!!
Always wanted to try a Retrosonic!
I love this!
Thanks Jeff! 🎉
just picked one up very well explained thank you from uk
Awesome! Enjoy it. Thanks for dropping a comment 🙌
This is so fantastic! Very "fresh" and original video too.
Thanks so much Kanilros! Was a fun idea I wanted to explore before TikToks gone (if it indeed does disappear)
Great demo. Seen one here locally used for sale and after watching your video, think I'll leap on it.
@@chipevans1939 Glad to hear it! I think it’s a great chorus pedal, especially to just see if you like the sound! Best thing is, Boss stuff is built so well, it’ll last forever or if you don’t like it, I’m sure you can get your money back for it if you resell in the future! Hope you dig it as much as I dig mine 🤘
The Boss BF-3 flange as well as the DD-3 too. I got the CE-5 Chorus Ensemble flavor in the 90s.
Never tried the BF-3! definitely need to check that out. A lot of my friends love the CE-5 and enjoy it MORE than the CH-1!
I've actually been in the market to finally get a chorus pedal for my rig, thanks for the rundown. I think a truly classic pedal is the ProCo Rat, great for adding tons of gain in front of other effects or just providing some simple crunch
ProCo Rat is 100% a classic effect. So many things are modified versions of that circuit. I highly suggest if you can find a CH-1 used you pick it up… new price, may not be totally worth it, but for used market chorus pedals, there ain’t a better deal in my opinion
I gotta know why you've never updated your stomp to accommodate 8 blocks instead of 6!
I never kept up with the updates and didn’t know you could do that! Someone else mentioned that too in the comments and I have since updated it… game changer for sure! Haha
I got this for free by some luck/ hardware I bought and oh my goodness I’ve not needed anything else
Right! I got this for free when I bought my UAD Volt 2 and have not looked back. Was just using the stock logic one before which is alright but this one is phenomenal
It's a great plug, I used tonuse it on every record I was tracking
Super easy to dial in a good tone! It’s made my bass tracking so much easier. What do you use now for bass?
I love this stuff, this is great. One day I might do the same.
I would love to see that! I do so many things wrong I would love to watch people do it to maybe pick up some tips and tricks!
Analog Obsession plugins are great!
Seriously amazing! Changed my life when I found them
Nice setup. The SSBS mini i had not seen before, sounds huge.
Super flexible drive pedal! Can get pretty clean too. Definitely a little obscure that one… hard to find them at a decent price!
Great video and tones! If you update your stomp, you’ll have 8 blocks available to you instead of 6 :)
Thanks for checking out the video man! Yea, I am way behind on the updates for my Stomp. Definitely will be doing that before filming my board update video! 👍 - having a couple extra blocks could be a game changer
Really loved this, definitely inspired to go tweak mine (and maybe I'll share - I was inspired in more ways than one!). And, no, I'm not at all jealous of many of your pedals!
Haha I have gone through so many pedals it’s laughable! But I do get them all used so buying and selling them ain’t too hard on the wallet! 🤣
Sweet setup! A lot cleaner than my board. Mine is a wild mess lol
My board is one of the few things in my studio that is actually organized! 🤣
This is all as perplexing and impenetrable to me as nuclear physics.
Hahahah 😂
You have the same monitors as me 😂 another great vid, love this stuff
They’re honestly pretty dang good! Got them used for $100 haha 🤣 Thanks man! Trying to do more video stuff! Another video coming in a couple weeks! ✌️
Nice tour of the board! Lots of versatility on tap.
Definitely insanely versatile! The funny thing is I tend to just set and forget so many of the things I have... need to remember to have fun and experiment with the sounds I can get a little more Thanks for watching @thevoodooplanet!
That Julia sounds gorgeous!
I gotta say... I am kicking myself because I sold it just shortly after recording this because I felt the need to change up my board... the GAS burned me bad on that one! I did pick up a new Chorus pedal though! (More on that soon-ish)
I’m on your channel nowwwww
@@Ohbrotheradog 😮💨 so sick 💥
This has what I call a classic feel, like it’s been around forever and should remain around forever. Great job!
Thanks so much @tripendicularbaby! More videos and music coming very soon 🎉
@ Good news!
great job🎉I sing and play a little guitar too but I couldnt perform like that tbh..Im still a little too afraid
Thank you homie! I’ve been doing this on and off for 15 years now and I still am so nervous before playing! It’s hard to be so vulnerable up there. Always feels so amazing afterwards though when you do it!
Suck the mic
Part 2 now available on my channel! We dive into audio interfaces! 👍
