FASD Awareness
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 พ.ย. 2018
Registered in 2018, FASD Awareness South East is a charity with a clear vision - where women do not drink alcohol during pregnancy and individuals living with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) are identified, recognised and valued.
At FASD Awareness South East we follow the Chief Medical Officer UK's recommendation that, "If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, the safest approach is not to drink alcohol at all to keep risks to your baby to a minimum. Drinking in pregnancy can lead to long term harm to the baby".
Our aim is to promote awareness of FASD in a positive way by educating women on the harmful effects of drinking whilst pregnant, as well as providing support, education and resources on the condition to parents, carers, health professionals, teachers, justice professionals and service providers.
The latest British statistics show that there is an increase in FASD. Our work has just begun. www.fasdawareness.org.uk/

Siblings - "The hidden voice" - FASD Webinar #30
FASD Awareness in conversation with Siblings-
Have you considered or appreciated the role of siblings when someone new enters a family?
Siblings can frequently be overlooked as part of any Family Unit. Their relationship and role requires consideration, their needs and voice should be heard.
Families caring for individuals living with FASD can sometimes get consumed, trying to navigate the requirements of the FASD individual under their care, through no fault of other family members but simply by the nature of the time and attention devoted to ensure the FASD individual's needs are correctly identified and supported in a holistic manner. FASD family units consist of Birth parent families, Fostering, Adoption or SGO families.
At FASD Awareness we have been working alongside families for many years and often discuss the siblings and their involvement, feelings and roles. We felt it was important to host a webinar where parents, carers and social care professionals can hear the views and feelings of siblings. These siblings sometimes become young carers and amazing advocates for the individuals living with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders in their homes.
The conversation in this webinar covers relationships, discussing the challenges, advantages, disadvantages, lessons learned and personal development with being a sibling of foster children, and brothers or sister with a neuro-disability, and any views that come along with it.

Hi there from Albuquerque NM USA I am so excited for you with your accomplishment
Thank you Tanya. I have passed on your remarks and best wishes. xx
Thank you to Shushma and your family ❤
From what I read fas wasn't know about until 1973 .
Thank you Prof. Moira Plant and Andrew Keeping. I am one of the team at NOFASD Australia and I am a bio mum. We have just shared your podcast on our social media. Please do reach out to me if you would like to connect
Thank you for the share Sophie. Great to connect.
Great interview and refreshing perspective on FASD by a well-respected voice in the field. I agree that assessment needs to focus on assessing individuals in the context of teams that are skilled in neurodiversity and can consider FASD as part of differential diagnosis rather than a service dedicated to FASD.
All your guests have described things really well, so thank you guys 😊
Our pleasure!
My daughter has just had an assessment for FASD and we are waiting for the outcome, but the characteristics and symptoms are evident. Thanks, Andrew, for this discussion with your guests. They have really helped me as a father, and the fight, flight or freeze and confabulation topic was really insightful.
Thanks so much for your comments. These are here to help and shed light on strategies, greater understanding and awareness. Best wishes from all the team at FASD Awareness.
I think it would be great if Maggie May had her own youtube channel. She describes her experiences with FASD really well, and this would help those with FASD and those who don't understand this condition, better.
Alcohol can cause a miscarriage and stillbirth
If the damage to the foetus is so severe in the very first 2 weeks this is the most common time for a natural miscarriage. However, the foetus could still survive full term.
@@FASDAwarenessBeAware if women drink too much alcohol during any stage they will miscarry
I’m so scared!!! I didn’t know i was pregnant until 6th week!! Is my baby okay?
I can't answer that I am afraid. But the most important advice we can recommend is to abstain from alcohol for the duration of your pregnancy. The most important thing is you know. Wishing you very best wishes
Hi I just want to know If your baby is okay? Im also really scared because I didn’t know that Im pregnant. It was a celebration for my graduation then we drink a lot then after a month I found out that Im pregnant for 7 weeks pregnant. That means the baby is already 3-4 weeks when we drunk. Please respond 😢. Thank you!
😐❓️
Well in my case i did not knkw i was pregnant until i found out because of a uti test ! Since i was having hard time conceive becausw my pocs ovaries i my period were irregular so i wouldnt know and it was likw i was drinking constantly i just didnt know and obbiously i stop when i found out i was pregnant ! So far my baby is ok ! But you cant put everyone in the same sak because my situation was different
Iwas drinking until before yesterday night and yesterday morning found I'm pregnant I'm praying my baby is everything well
Your not alone I drank for almost the whole first month because I honestly didn't know until my menstrual didn't show.
@@latashabreal9077hey and was your baby born alreadt??

thank you for this webinar. for adults with FASD and dont know it. i would like to know what difficulties other adult have everyday. i am learning how thr brain can affect our behaviour - can do creativity like rearranging furniture but not able to take medications regularly.
Fuck alcohol
having difficulty concentration and memory. is this normal in FASD.
Absolutely. One of the key challenges for individuals with FASD.
I really love my alcohol, but I can't imagine drinking during a pregnancy knowing the impact it's going to have.
JUST ASK ME... NO ONE BUT NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE TO HAVE LIVED IN MY SKIN WITH F.A.S AND F.A.E (FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROM) AND (FETAL ALCOHOL EFFECT) ITS A MIRACLE I HAVE MADE IT TO 66 YEARS! I ACREDIT MY ADOPTIVE PARENTS FOR THAT AS I WAS REMOVED FROM THE GUTTER AT 14 MONTHS AND ADOPTED BY THEM AT 2. THAT YOU
I WOULD LOVE To ALL HOOK UP For A WEBINAR For FASD & The CJS Here In NYS As I Am Going Pro Se On My Felony Conviction After Successfully Completing My 5 Year Sentence Very Successfully & Learning Along The Way And Also Helps Having A Dear Friend Whom Was A Public Defender I Watch Him & Learned From Him & Was His Assistant Growing Up In High School. FASD Unfortunately Is ALL OVER The Records It's JUST NO ONE EVER TOOK THE TIME TO LEARN ABOUT FASD. So Now Some 28 Years Later Being SO In TUNE To HOW CORUPT The System Is. One Would NOT Know UNLESS you Actually Went Through The SYSTEM. SO NOW That NYS FINALY Has Recognized FASD AS A Legitimate Disability & Is Also Pre Existing Condition. So It's NOW Taking The Criminal Convict Whom Is Of Irrefutable FACT NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN & BLACK. 2 Minorites Right Off The BAT That Is Relevant To My Case & I Guarantee The POSITIVE Attributes That I Have Acquired Since Growing Up In A Methodist Minister Up Bringing , Being The First Ever Minority EVER To Be ALLOWED MEMBERSHIP Into The Order Of DEMOLAY In Montana And To Work My Way Up To The Top & Became The 1st Ever Master Councilor Elect For The Order Of DeMolay. NOT MANY CAN SAY THAT. My Story Is ALL BUT A Miracle. From Being Born At ONLY 24lbs To Whom I Am TODAY Is BLACK & WHITE & AM Fighting The CJS. 1 Person Can NOT POSSIBLE Be THAT DANGEROUS FOR A DR With A PHD Whom Claims In The Dr's Recommendation From A CJS Intra Agency Whom Submitted A 3 Page Report Against Me Where It Is Mentioned By This Dr Of 30+ Years That He Considers Me To POSE A HIGH DEGREE OF DANGER TO THE COMMUNITY." AND Yet I Was Also A Former Volunteer Fire Fighter Of 3 Yrs Prior To This Dr Even Seeing Me. Well Sad To Say But The DA Is Leveraging This NOW DEAD Dr Recommendation In Keeping My Conviction Because Of WHAT THIS DR With A PhD Said That HE CONSIDERS ME. Well Unfortunately That Is NOT BASED In FACT But More Of A VERY BIASED Personal VEDETTA AGINST ME The ONLY MINORITY IN A ALL WHITE TREATMENT CENTER. So You Tell Me HOW YOU THINK THIS IS GOING TO PLAY OUT IN FRONT OF A JURY & JUDGE. THIS CASE IS GOING TO WIN. AS Pro Se NOW I Am Enacting The 440.10 Motion To VACATE Sentence. 28 Yrs OLD CASE & SHOULD! THE DA CHOOSE TO CHALLEANGE ME By ALL MEANS! CALL MY BLUFF. REMEMBER I TOOK A Plea BUT It NEVER WENT To COURT BUT NOW YOU USE THE 440.10 Which Can Be Used ANY TIME AFTER A GUILTY PLEA. So Even Though Everyone Else Who Was On The Opposing Side Such As The Victim, Police Detective, Former Legal Rep I Can NOW CALL EVERYONE BACK To COURT ALL These Years Later & Challenge The Conviction For The Honesty, Truthfulness, And Validity & Accuracy Of This Felony Case. A GOOD Competant Experience Lawyer Should Have Picked Up ALL Of These Obvious ERRORS & Mistakes Starring You Right In The EYES ALL THESE Years & NOW The CONVIICTED CRIMINAL Is NOW Coming Forward & Telling & Sharing The REAL TRUTH BY Having ALL KNOWN People Whom Were Against Me NOW Come Forth & Be 100% Answerable To Me For The Statement & Claim The HIGH DEGREE OF DANGER TO THE COMMUNITY. As A FULLY SWORN FIRE FIGHTER. Lets SEE WHAT THE JUDGE IS GOING TO SAY ABOUT THIS 28 YR OLD CASE NOW Having ADDED FASD Into The Evideamce I Believe Will Be CHECK MATE. What Do You THINK? It's ALL ABOUT EVIDEANCE. The Dr Whom Made That Stupid Recommendation DIED In 2012 But The DA IS STILL Using His Records As Leveraging. How Sick Is That. And YET The FIRE DEPT Also KNEW ABOUT MY FELONY CONVICTION & STILL ALLOW Me To Become A Member & Serve My Fellow Community 24-7. Night Or Day. WILLING To RISK My OWN LIFE FOR The Life Of Others Is The Ultimate Sacrifice. A DANGER TO THE COMMUNITY? I Laugh At The Dr's Intelligence. I Hear A WIN In MY FAVOR!
Wow for me i was born with fetal alcoholic and drug syndrome
Same
I'm from the UK and I have met about 4 people who are women who drank during pregnancy 😅. They don't care and if you criticise them you are evil and their children will have awful problems and already do. But remember it's wrong to criticise them and you are a bad person and it's all just bad luck 😂
Theyre selfish, immature idiots
Dude wtf...
It was so informative to listen to a parent who is so in tune with her child. A very inspirational person and a great advocate for FASD.
Maggie May, thank you. You are a wonderful human being who has just so much to give. I am so pleased that you had great support growing up. You have given me an insight into what it is like to be neuro diverse and it really helped my understanding when you explained some of your behaviour. Jean

Tbh it's so hard to even go to a doctor or therapist in the uk about my fasd becasue they didn't even know what it was I have to teach them
I know. This has been a battle we have faced for so many years. Hopefully with the new pathway plan, and the new Nice Guidance all medical professionals will be trained in FASD and understand. You can always send your GP's our films that are designed to give a better understanding.
I have FASD was never in the Foster's care system I got raised with my mother and father So I don't know what it's like to be in the Foster care system which I'm happy about about but I want to know what the percentage is with people in-and-out of Is Foster c care with FAS
Is what is the percentage of people that have FASD yet thrown into the system all through the world Because my understanding a lot of people with FASD get put in the Foster care system
There certainly is a lot of individuals with FASD in the Foster care system. There is also an awful lot that do not have a diagnosis of FASD too.
Great guys. Their support of FASD Awareness makes such a difference and impacts people all over the world! Fair play to them.
Thanks again for the invitation
