The camo pattern doesn’t matter. It’s the irregular shapes of the camo that breaks up the outline of a stationary figure.

Its all about movement not colors or patterns killed many quality bucks in blue jeans and hoodie. if the deer is looking up in the tree at you, you are already busted and better move.

Blue is the worst color you can wear. Just because a deer was killed in blue jeans doesn’t mean it’s a good choice - we go with the science - high IQ decisions mean more results 👍🏻

@ not just a deer many deer and good bucks not does. Most killed in the NJ pine barrens. If you can kill a good buck there you can kill them anywhere. Don’t mean to blow up your pod cast but the result are proven. You talk about deer looking up at you, you are busted. No movement equals success doesn’t matter what you are wearing. I know they can see blue the best. Now what is their best? No one knows.

Eyesight is not a deer's primary means of identifying threats. It's 3rd in order of precedence. Smell, hearing, and then sight. Granted, deer can be educated to recognize certain sights as a threat and certainly, the human silhouette is among them, but generally 99% of camouflage for deer hunting is remaining still. A deer's vision is oriented towards detecting movement, not patterns. You could be out there in a clown suit but if you don't move the deer won't react to you (assuming they can't smell you, of course) All that said, most hunting camo is too busy and too dark for the environment it's used in. When in doubt, go with a more open pattern and lighter in shade. And hold still ;)

I did an experiment with my trail cameras infrared this past season. Some of the stuff that I owned glowed in the dark with no visible pattern , just a huge shiny object. The takeaway for me was to replace it with camouflage that didn’t glow like that. Also hide in cover so as to keep any fidgeting out of site.

Most camo clothing has a uniformity to it. Predator camo uses larger blotches to break up human outline. I also feel camo clothing should focus on breaking up appendage connection area like shoulders and hips!

I've noticed just by seeing other hunters in the field that darker camo is not good. I've actually had my brother take pictures of me in the stand with different patterns and the light to medium darkness works the best for sure! And another thing of course is being as still as humanly possible! Train yourself to make slow and deliberate movements is the key especially in early season.

Contrasting with your environment is huge. You need to make sure you blend in and don’t wear camo that stands out, wearing green camo in the late fall for instance is bad. It also highlights why you shouldn’t skylight yourself. Always have a backstop.

Never have had problems with anything I hunted in prairie type terrain. In that terrain, I kind of like natty gear. Lots of years ago all I had was army fatigues in the old desert camo. That worked for me just fine too

I found an old thread on a hunting forum where two brothers started experimenting with NON-UV clothing as their camo… ie- wool , vintage military fatigues . Long story short they found that they became virtually invisable to deer and mature bucks once they made the switch to this non -UV fabric /brightener clothing. I adopted their methods and let me Tell you it worked like magic. As long as you keep your movement to the absolute minimum , the deer do NOT see you. Btw this ends up being extremely cost effective as well. I highly suggest everyone here look into this and try it. You will notice an immediate difference.

I've always bounced back and forth on the validity of this deer. This interview is hard to challenge. I would love to hear from the people that scored it. I always had a theory: Mitch shot a buck several years after the 98 buck that had the same type frame (you can find pics of this buck online). My theory was that the 98 buck was a fake using the shed antlers from the buck he shot years later. When Mitch shot the real deer years later it had regressed significantly. Obviously my theory doesn't work well if people actually saw the dead deer and skull plate but it would make sense absent hands on confirmation.

Great podcast! Bill's Dream Farm is on the other side of the mighty Mississippi river from my Packerland Deer Camp property. He is a great deer hunter, influencer and land manager. Mindset is key to every challenge we face. Each of my hunting seasons starts with a mindset of greatness. It's tied to the why I hunt not just a big buck on the ground. If more people had a strong "why they hunt", then every hunt they do would be successful if they lived up to the standards of serving the greatness of that why. As I hunt, I learn, adjust, and grow into the reason I hunt, and as a result, I become much more fulfilled. When I begin a hunt I tend to have a strong reason (mindset) for each hunting season months before it starts. I allow my self-awareness of beginning with the end in mind to help me reach my strong reason for the bow hunting season to guide me to my success. #BigBuckInTheTruck2025

You actually do want to engage the brain into things that you don't have knowledge of. This is the beginning of developing subconscious auto pilot. Thoughs focused on doing the things that improve outcomes required positive reinforcement od positive feelings during the learning. Feelings of doubt or frustration while learning a new behavior creates a disconnect. Thoughts plus feelings become real to the body through chemicals that get released in the body. Cortisol induced thoughts and feelings become bad habits. Dopamine induced create good habits that become awesome outcomes. We literally embody our own thoughts and feelings. Awareness is the key to change. Using critical thinking toward awareness for the need to change to be better is how we begin to start a new habit. Remember, to associate positive thoughts and feelings as you develop a new habit. The higher quality and quantity of thinking and feeling towards the new habit the better. Too often people decide to not do something without replacing it with something better. Better and better over time leads to betterment. Think>feel>believe (embody)>speak (create the language of justice rather than justification)>do it (take action) get the result> developing awareness (take account) >repeat. Live, learn, adjust, grow and repeat. Associate more pain associated with remaining the same than the pain associated with the necessary change.
