This is the first of a series of videos showing the progress of my MINI Cooper S R53 rebuild. I am aiming for a daily driver, track-able car.
great job. looking forward to seeing the next video!!
this is like car porn to me god dam i need to empty my garage and clean up and then do this with my mini >_> at least sub frame refresh with breaks and coilovers i done all the engine services all the bits SC service water pump new power steering new rad new pully and belts new rad new.. plugs ect ect coil pack exhaust just suspension and bushings and seals and breaks left..
Scariest video of a car on axle stands I've ever seen! With every touch, it moves like hell, and you just don't seem to care. Wow... Big cojones! 🤣
Power Flex yellow engine mounts are awesome....a little NVH in the first 300 miles or so but does go away. For the bottom mount I injected windshield silicone into the voids only. That particular mount if too rigid can transmit vibrations to the engines oil pan increasing likelihood of early oil pan gasket leakage.
Thank you for sharing that Awesome rebuild. Mahalo & Aloha from the Bigisland of Hawaii
that cracked alternator though...
where did the engine removal go? you pull the trans too?
hi Track Driven, i want ths intercooler bay pls i ned link for thats
Those axle stands are really scary! Buy some less wobbly ones!
Is it just me getting anxiety about those stands?
TIL: the r53 mini cooper S is a single cam engine, I completely forgot and would have sworn it was DOHC. Love that motor
Such a neat project. Gives me a slight glimmer of hope that I could do that. Very slight.
Do you know how to remove stuck hydraulic tappets in the r53 rocker arm.
I appreciate the simplicity of the details you share in the video. Very helpful! 🙂
Awesome build. Expensive brakes! I have the Willwoods front and rear, but couldn't justify pulling the trigger for Brembos. During Covid I did the same project to my 2005 R50 (owned it since new); I pulled the subframes, ground off all the rust and repainted them with POR-15, upgraded all the bushings, control arms, sway bar, R56 aluminum trailing arms, Vorschlag camber plates, etc., etc. It was great to have everything out on the garage floor to clean and assess, and reassemble better than new. The car is rattle free and handles like a dream. I put Bilstein PSS-10s (the adjustable ones) on my wife's F30 and would like to put them on my R50 (it currently has FSD dampers with 30mm lowering springs, which work great, but just lack adjustment).
Thanks for the video! After a slow rebuild I forgot where each bracket goes and this was super super helpful!
so helpfull for my project thanks a lot!!
That's hilarious you made your own tool for the belt tensioner 😂😂 i used a long screw driver and a pry bar, and my dad to put an Alan key in the hole 🤪
was wondering. quick side bar lol
Currently rebuilding my engine and you saved my ass because I forgot where some of the electrical goes 😅
Great video, thanks! I was worried I would need to drop the fuel tank to get the subframe out.
Around how much did a rebuild cost ya
Too much 😅 I think that about 2-3k would be enough to do a really good job though.
15:13 when your torque wrench plays the intro to sandstorm.
more updates on this car
Things have slowed with this build due to other commitments, but I'm aiming to bring some new content soon.
This is to the creator... Keep up the content, you have done great work so far, and you are gaining some traction, keep at it and you will be able to find success
Beautiful! Where's the parts list?
This is a great idea, I will put one together.
Nice video, it would’ve been nice if you to put attachments for the parts you put on, but well done🙏🏻👍👿👎💯💥
Noted, I will work on creating a list.
2 questions?? What process did you use to get the inlet manifold looking so good, and what make of torque wrench did you use??
I ended up trying some aluminium cleaning chemicals to remove the caked on grime however this proved not very successful, so in the end it was cleaned with a wire brush and then painted silver! The torque wrench is a Draper Expert.
That is incredible.
Hi, great job. Where did you buy batery protection?
This was something that I had made up, although the company GTT offer something similar.
Have you got fill troy headers into a straight thru pipe to muffler
I'm sure you did but if you didn't notice the alternator body was badly fractured and will eventually die.
This was noted while putting it together and in the end it was a bad decision to not replace it while it was out, it ended up failing and had to be replaced trackside.
So easy, when it isn’t in the mini.
Looks like the car is a little wobbly on those jack stands. I'd go with stands with a bigger base
Love how beautifully detailed and clean the engine is. Inspired to do something similar to my own
Donde se puede conseguir el material de repuesto que le vas a montar en el eje trasero? Un saludo desde España y gracias 🙏 por el vídeo.
Y que paso con la parte 6
This was so satisfying to watch, thanks
What's happened, is the car OK? Why didn't you upload any more videos bud?
The car is doing great! I'm hoping to upload finally a follow up video soon.
great video and great work with the build. Very satisfying.
Any updates?
ASMR engine builds... love it. Also, love that you're updating all the hardware to hex heads.
Sandstorm 15:13
Gotta love finding a hidden gem of a video series like this on TH-cam. Well done guys!!
Bro I wish I had you in Los Angeles California swear keep up the great work I have a 04 r53
Wow, good job! 😍
Why i love this engine?so simple and nicely made
So fucking relaxing to watch. Love your Videos and Mini. Greetings from Bavaria.
Great rebuild. What car are the front calipers from? Or are they part of a big brake kit? Would love to fit them on my race car!!
They are Renault Mégane 275 brakes! They use an adapter available from a guy in the R53 Owners Club on Facebook, they use 330mm disks and do stop really really well, I think all in all cost about £600 with disks, pads and braided lines from HEL
@@trackdriven Thank-you for that, I'll check them out!
Love the videos. What process did you use for cleaning, prepping and painting the block please?
Thanks! The block was initially wire brushed to remove any really loose rust, then some paint over rust converter was applied multiple times and finally a top layer of brush on black engine enamel!
@@trackdriven did you use Por-15 products? Any recommendations please? Cheers
@@russtaylor4242 I believe I used E-Tech for the enamel paint, most reputable brands will do a good job though!
I noticed the wiring harness was completely separate from the car, where does the harness plug into the car at?
There are a few large connections on the passenger side that seem to be where most thing plug in!
@@trackdrivenon my jcw there is 1 wire remaining that wouldn’t allow what you did - did you cut and splice it 🤔
