At Traditional Craft Kits we believe that people have enormous creative potential. With our kits we challenge people to expand their comfort zone and turn raw materials into pieces of art. We know that this process is good, healthy and necessary for people and society. Our mission is to keep traditional crafting relevant in our modern world. We offer a product line that teaches hands-on skills, sparks creativity and inspires appreciation for handmade arts.
We have developed a line of craft kits that brings together the symbolism and designs found in many cultures by applying them to the art of basket making, pottery and other craft techniques. We have chosen crafts that are fun, educational and challenging. Learning these traditional skills opens up a whole new and fulfilling world of creativity.
Our projects vary from simple to complex. Our beginner basket kits take as little as an hour to complete, where our more advanced coiled designs take as much as 20 hours or more.

Hi, how am I supposed to tie the raffia on the a needle when i am pulling the stitches through?
Hello! You don’t need to tie the raffia to the needle just pull it through enough, like 3-5 inches, so it doesn’t fall off the needle.

Thank you! Yes he’s recovering quite well with crate rest .. three months 😼 I think he fell from tree chasing a squirrel as I saw a dead branch fresh broken about 30 feet up and I saw a squirrel there that day. The doctor said it’s rare injury for cats. Glad to have avoided surgery!!

If I am trying to switch colors, do I keep the old raffia and add the new one? If so, would I then just keep the other color and stitch it to the rod?

What is the inner part and outer part made of?
Hello! The inner rod is paper fiber rush and the outer is raffia palm fiber.
I don’t understand the difference between open and closed twining? Is it just the space between rows?
Yes! That’s all it is.. open spaces between rows or rows closed up tightly!

Hello, I think you would find it easier to use a tapestry needle but you could use an awl to create an opening to push the stitching material through!

There are many ways to start a coiled basket! In this kit you just tie knots and bring the line of knots into a circle, which gives you something to stitch the pine needles onto.
