    This is a proper wicked rig, I would absolutely love this but for what we do a troopy suits us better, when we drop the van and go prospecting way out into the scrub we need the bed set up in the back, I’m hoping superior can do the same suspension upgrades to a troopy.

    • @79seriesofevents
      @79seriesofevents หลายเดือนก่อน

      We were so close to getting a troopy! We were going to get a Hercules roof conversion for it but decided that long term, a Ute would give us more versatility (kids etc.) I don’t think they do a coil conversion for troopys, but a good leaf lift kit would be just as good? Especially if you’re not varying the load like us sliding the canopy on and off. Thanks for the kind words - hope to see you on the tracks some day!

    • @79seriesofevents
      @79seriesofevents 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We talk a bit more about that in our 2 year review! In all honesty though, there’s not a lot I don’t like about it. People talk about fuel economy, but I think it’s reasonable. Comfort of the seats is good for me and I have several bulging discs. The cabin noise is noticeable, but hasn’t bothered us enough to do anything about it and the power/torque - well, for a completely stock engine and clutch, it does fine. It won’t win prizes, but we’ve never been unhappy. The cruiser is a barebones 4wd. It’s not designed to be like a car (Ranger, navara etc.) is it worth the price tag? I guess it depends on what you think you’re paying for.

    • @Charles-g5w5g

    • @79seriesofevents
      @79seriesofevents หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Charles-g5w5gI’ve driven a few stock 79s and a few modded. The stock cruisers are nothing to write home about - like most others on the market. What I like most about the cruisers is overall, they’re ‘good’ in everything. Never particularly exceptional, but also never poor in any particular area. They’re also a fantastic blank canvas with a tonne of aftermarket parts and mods available to enhance the positives and negate the negatives. I’m personally not a massive fan of bells and whistles like heated seats, leather interiors, lane departure warnings etc. I like a no-frills 4x4 which cruisers obviously are. I’ve had other 4bys with extras that haven’t stood the test of time, electrics stop working, limited aftermarket parts etc. I’m not the type of person to go through vehicles when I ‘tire’ of them. I sell when they start costing me more to simply keep on the road instead of going towards upgrades. The bottom line of it, is don’t buy a cruiser expecting it to be as fancy as others on the market straight off the showroom floor. You pay the money on these things because they’re an exceptional foundation and a perfectly well-rounded canvas to paint how YOU want it. Nothing more, nothing less.

    • @79seriesofevents
      @79seriesofevents 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, we have taken it there a few times, but the ‘diagnosis’ is always that it’s had a coil conversion 🙄 An independent mechanic suggested it could be the pedals, as he’s had a cruiser come in with a similar issue and that was the problem.

    Serious question how are people affording all this not just that but how do you justify spending 200k for a camping set up? and how often do you guys go camping after spending that coin assuming you're not an influencer and need to work an actual job to make your repayments

    • @79seriesofevents
      @79seriesofevents 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We talk a bit about that in our 2 year review video but a few things to consider: - It’s still a car and is used as one. It’s not JUST a camping set up. - We try to get away camping every second weekend. But we also stay at friends’ and family’s properties in the rooftop. - My wife and I both work primarily in healthcare and work 2 casual jobs each. I work 50~ hrs Mon-Thurs. On weeks we’re home, I’ll work more. - We bought a well priced house pre-covid. We were lucky to have been in a position to buy when we did. We made some good financial choices (like previous investments, renting out rooms, airbnb etc) so we actually own our cars outright. The ONLY loan we have is our mortgage. No credit cards, no afterpays or zip money loans. (Thank you, Barefoot Investor and She’s On The Money). - I’ve been working for 20 years now and often ask myself and those who criticise my choices: “at what point am I allowed to reap the rewards of my hard work? Am I just supposed to work and save until I’m too old to enjoy the fruits of my labour?” We didn’t piss our money up the wall. We’ve worked damn hard to get where we are. That’s literally what it takes. Sacrifice, hard work and good choices.

    You gave my husband and I a good laugh. We play this game called, Hema 4x4 Shortcuts, and last week's shortcut was downhill the ENTIRE Duck Creek Rd. After such an adventure, we wanted to contact whoever care/ed for it. So, the track's been officially closed since April 2017 but I doubt you guys and us haven't been the only ones to try out. A bit above where you guys got stuck there's a gumtree on one edge, and then half the track has been completely washed away. Manoeuvring a 200 Series through there last week was very hairy! Hands down one of the toughest tracks we've done in it's current disused and washed out state. Terrifying fun. 😅 Hopefully it gets some love to make it safe and is re-opened.

    Hi guys, great video, im struggling with superior engineering or 4:07 Jmacx, what do you think of the comfortability of the ride from superior engineering kit? Have you guys considered the chassis extension? Really appreciate your feedback.

    • @79seriesofevents
      @79seriesofevents 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      G’day mate! Thanks for the feedback. I think with the chassis extension, we couldn’t justify the $7k+ for the extension, cost of longer tray and larger canopy. While the extension would definitely improve handling, we decided to go with a 3/4 canopy instead, to avoid adding weight past the rear axle. It’s really a matter of what you intend on doing. If you’re going to be touring full time, towing a boat or caravan and want the option of a bigger canopy, the extension would be worth every penny. For us, even when we pack for a week away, we don’t go over our GVM and we don’t tow anything bigger than a box or JetSki trailer, so we couldn’t justify the extension. We also like that the turning circle means we can still do some tight tracks while mates of ours with the extension have had to 3-7 point turn to get around bends. In terms of the suspension, we couldn’t be happier with the superior kit. The first 6months after adding the canopy was questionable, but that’s because they’re quite soft from factory - even at the hardest setting. We had the guys reshim the shocks so the ride was stiffer. Now it’s perfect. In terms of Jmacx or Superior, I think it’s personal preference, cost and location. Do you want a 4 or 5 link setup etc. The best thing I can recommend is seeing if you can drive a cruiser of each setup to get a feel for the difference. Personally, I was stoked with the superior kit more so, but it really is up to the individual. Hope this helps!

    • @79seriesofevents
      @79seriesofevents 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gday mate, the suspension was done through Superior Engineering. The kit on our 79 is the 4-link Outback Tourer 4” coil conversion. They do a leaf spring variant, as well as different height and GVM upgrade options. We’re in no way affiliated with Superior, but found their customer service to be excellent and more than happy to lay out a few options that would suit our needs. Our choice to go with superior had a few other factors at play also, being that they do a 4-link setup whereas JMacx do 5-link: personal preference on that one.

  • @DrGigoli
    @DrGigoli 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    From the outside looking in, it seems as though the outback is used as the conduit to enjoy your 200k car as opposed to the car being the conduit to enjoying the outback. Considering the fact that both you guys work 2 jobs and rent out the bedrooms in your home to afford the car, wouldn’t the money be better spent on 10,000 dollar trips for the next 20 years? You could get to some truely remote places for that price and see parts of the world most never dream of seeing.

    • @79seriesofevents
      @79seriesofevents 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We own our car outright and rented the rooms out to fund our trips Since this video, we sold our old house and bought a new one with a cottage suitable for airbnb. In an effort to not sound pretentious and just give an honest reply; we do travel overseas as well. This year we got married then spent 3 weeks in New Zealand for our honeymoon - on top of selling and buying. Next year we’re going to Thailand for our anniversary and to New Zealand again for the winter. We try our best to be money savvy while still making the time to enjoy ourselves. We worked our butts off for a few years then sat down and worked out a financial plan to achieve the goals we had. I guess the trade off we’ve made is to rent out our space and forfeit some privacy in order to be able to do these things. We’ve learnt from our parents that the time to enjoy life is in the present. That might sound like a very gen z thing to say, but having parents who retire with debilitating illnesses and no way of enjoying their superannuation, we want to make the most of our health and work to live; not live to work. We’re coming up to 2 years of ownership with the 79 and we honestly, hand on heart can say that we couldn’t be happier. We haven’t travelled as far in the cruiser this year with everything else that’s happened, but when we have we’ve met some absolute legends around the ridges and made life long friends. Life always has its ups and downs, but we know we’re incredibly fortunate and do our best to be transparent. Our goal for this channel is to have some awesome videos to show our family, friends and eventually, our kids. If we can help some fellow travellers with a review along the way, even better. We totally see where your coming from and it makes total sense. We appreciate the feedback 😊

    I was deadset on getting one, but after a test drive I forfeit the idea. It was the slowest v8 turbo diesle I've driven. Kills it for me

    could not stop laughing when he said "budget and things " after spending $32000.00 on some shockers ...

    • @79seriesofevents
      @79seriesofevents ปีที่แล้ว

      1/4 of that was just in the engineering certification alone. If it was JUST shocks, it’d be cheap as chips. Full coil conversions ain’t cheap. But you get that on the big jobs. Sitting in it now with a massive smile on my face - money well spent.

    In the quiet countryside, nestled within the confines of a cozy farm, I once roamed free, a simple chicken with dreams of sunny meadows and endless fields of grain. Little did I know that my fate would soon take a sinister turn. One fateful day, I was lured into a trap. It smelled of enticing spices and herbs, a fragrant deception that promised a savory adventure. I found myself ensnared in a cage, surrounded by my fellow chickens, all of us captives in our own demise. As the hours passed, the scent grew stronger, and I realized the horror of our predicament. We were destined to become a feast, a meal for the very beings who had raised us from chicks. Desperation coursed through our ranks as we clucked and flapped our wings, futilely trying to escape our impending doom. The farmhouse door swung open, revealing a young girl with pigtails and innocent eyes. She skipped over to our cage, her laughter ringing out like sweet music. She peered inside, her face lighting up at the sight of us. I watched her closely, her every movement filled with a curious fascination. The girl's father, a tall figure with an apron stained by countless meals, soon joined her. He reached into the cage, selecting one of my companions. The chicken squawked in terror as it was plucked from our midst. I, too, trembled, knowing my turn would come. The girl watched her father's every move, her eyes wide with wonder as he prepared the chicken for the evening's dinner. I could feel her anticipation, a sinister glee bubbling beneath her youthful innocence. Finally, it was my turn. The father's hand closed around me, and I was lifted into the air. I clucked and squirmed, desperately trying to escape. But the girl's gaze held me captive, her fascination seemingly insatiable. Instead of being taken to the chopping block, I was placed on a wooden table. The girl reached for a bowl of spices and herbs, her fingers dancing through the fragrant mixture. She began to sprinkle it over me, each movement delicate and deliberate. In that moment, I realized the twisted fate that awaited me. I was not to meet a swift and merciful end, but rather to become a plaything in the girl's macabre game. She giggled as she adorned me with seasoning, her innocent joy a chilling contrast to my impending doom. I longed for the sweet release of the cleaver, but it never came. Instead, I endured hours of torment, the girl's cruel laughter echoing in my ears. She took delight in turning me into a marionette, a puppet in her culinary theater. As the sun dipped below the horizon, my torment finally ended. I was placed back into the cage, seasoned but still alive. The girl's father had other plans for our dinner that night, and I was spared, at least temporarily. I watched the farmhouse recede into the distance, yearning for the freedom I had once known. But the taste of fear and the memory of the girl's wicked game would haunt me, a chilling reminder that sometimes the cruelest horrors are disguised as innocence, and that in the end, we are all just pawns in the hands of fate.

    Im not convinced a young couple can own a 150-200K rig outright and own their own home outright. Just saying. Something dosent add up. Maybe a family gift or someone else paid for half, or tax concessions, but nup. Not buying it.

    • @79seriesofevents
      @79seriesofevents ปีที่แล้ว

      We didn’t say we owned our home outright. We bought just after covid hit and house prices were very cheap, so our mortgage repayments are still well below rental prices. We also work 2 jobs each and rent out rooms in our house. Our house is the only debt we have.

      As I said in a previous comment, I’m in my mid 30s and have been working 19 years now - usually 2 jobs at a time. At what point is it ok for me to spend my hard-earned?? I find the mentality of Aussies to be really disappointing. No ‘fair go’ or ‘true blue’ anymore. It’s straight to assuming someone’s life and cutting them down accordingly.
