Nice video. I'm heading over in November for a six-month stint and will be in that general area. I noticed in the video that the lower locking ring for the reel was not snug against the first. If your reel would have come loose, you will have really had your hands full.

I've walked a fair bit of the Tongariro looking for swims like your opening pieces, but for a beginner like me I've still not found anywhere that looks fishable (for me still learning to cast etc)

Ues a net bro, everytime a trout jumps on the rocks it breaks ribs. Dont believe me kill one and have a look. I eat nearly all i catch. I use a net and handle them gently and still find them with internal injuries when filleting them. Catch and release is good but many fish die. They all swim away, and look ok but they are not. Trout are not ocean fish. They are as soft as.
