Thanks for the memories
Born and raised in Arlington moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 68 . I realized the Jax was the Deep South and left me with values and helped me be a moral person💯
Wow, during the Great Depression and the city is clean. No people camping on the streets. No people blowing an o ring in the streets and leaving it for you to step in. No spray paint. No trash What happened?
Born here in 1968 and been here since. I've left and returned so much has changed since then. Thx for the post.
Edgewood and Roosevelt at the 1:40 mark is Post St. and McDuff Ave. looking northbound on the Atlantic Coast line Railroad
You don't wanna be anywhere near downtown Jacksonville after dark now. Shame how times have changed for the worse.
@@forsakenlife4873 I agree I am ashamed of how our home town has been destroyed
I lived at Regency Apts in 1981-1983. Worked in the strip mall up the road, at a Chinese Restaurant.❤

Their designs have definitely gotten worse over the years...
I've long been gone from Jax, have fond memories of going to the Southside drive with mom while dad was pulling overtime at NAS Jax,. (during Vietnam War, 61.).
Thank you from my heart for posting these pictures. It's sad looking at all of our fallen classmates.
Being from the Westside, I've been to the Fox many times.
The one photo of Blanding at Cassat from 1955 is actually Park St at Lakeshore Blvd 1958.
I’m glad to have discovered your channel. I’m loving the old Westside a d Riverside Jax images. Thank you, Ben. God bless.

Born and raised on the Northside, left over forty years ago. Visions of my childhood reimagined...
I found out that Marshall Teague, driver of _"The Fabulous Hudson Hornet"_ that was made famous in the Disney film, got his Hornets straight off the dealer’s lot at *Milford Motors in Jacksonville, Florida!* He drove the cars to wins at both the 1951 & 1952 Daytona 500 on the beach, setting off the long string of Hudson Hornet Grand National (NASCAR) wins & domination. Hudson Hornets won 13 Grand National races in 1951, 27 in 1952, 22 in 1953 and 17 in 1954. Late in 1954 Hudson merged with Nash and closed their Detroit factory, and from 1955 on all Hudsons became just re-badged Nashes.
Wow, that was very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Can't believe that *Beach Road Chicken Dinner* doesn't exist anymore. Sad.
Yes, I know I had lunch there one day about a year ago before they closed up and the chicken wasn’t any good anymore it taste like it was fried in old grease
In the lower right-hand corner of the postcard featuring the Church of the Imaculate Conception is a pale green building located at 325 Ocean Street. It started life as the Hotel Seneca. By the time thisphotowas taken, it was a part of the building housing Phelps Fabrics.

A step back in my life!
Hey Ben...Enjoyed the video! I grew up in Waycross, Georgia and I've always said you can't grow up in south GA without knowing a little about north FL! I spent many a dollar in Jacksonville from the time I was old enough to drive. In about 1956-57 my parents took us to a place in or around Jax called Storyland. Do you recall or have any info on that. I managed to find one poster on the internet several years back.
I do just have to find it will post as soon as I do it was on the east side of the Mattew Bridge
Thank you for posting this. Really appreciate it, nice video.
Shout out to my home state Florida
😢Sad time.. I was a Junior at Andrew Jackson but lived near Avondale; and, we were one of the lucky ones whose homes did not flood.
Ben what a great video! So many wonderful memories. Thank You

Such a fascinating topic. Can anyone recommend a good text on Florida in the ACW? I lived in Lake county for 20 years before i moved back up north for work. I know that there wasnt much in central florida at that time!
