"R.P.M." - THE FOUR SPEEDS
มุมมอง 88K17 ปีที่แล้ว
"The Four Speeds, a studio-only project, made one little-known hot rod single in late 1962 ("My Sting Ray" B/W "RPM") of interest to Beach Boys completists due to the presence of Dennis Wilson on drums. Gary Usher sang lead on both sides, as well as co-producing and writing the tunes with Mike Borchetta. The songs are fair hot rod songs in the mold of the Beach Boys' "Shut Down" and some of the...
Amazing voice and lyrics, love it, I do remember it from my growing up years. Why oh why do we not hear of any new songs like this? So romantic.
Jay , so many great singers in the 1950s and 1960s this guy is one of them , I could not choose a top ten never mind top 5 singers of those decades just so much talent ....but Ive never heard any one man who sang to perfection every single Song vocal range in one song like he did , a legend amongst many legends .
I played both lead and rhythm guitar on this track along with several others from Joe King Carrasco's MCA Records debut under producer Richard Gotteherer, who wanted a "Chuck Berry" type lead for the tune... LOL. At the time, I used the stage name "Len Leonard" and snagged a rear cover credit "Additional Guitar" under my pseudonym which, of course, was fine. The whole team, especially Joe, were great to work with, and I've always liked this album - one of my personal faves. We recorded and mixed it at the Record Plant, NYC around 1982. Brings back some great memories of those times.
Beyond words, great cords, loved this song ❤❤❤ RIP 🙏
I wasn't aware that Jay had died in 2021. He had a phenomenal voice. So very sad. ❤
The lyrics alone without the music could be used in a poem for an English undergraduate course! Elizabeth Barrett Browning eat your heart out!
RIP David Bhlatt
When my parents were dating, my father would sing this song to my mother. When my father passed on, mom had this song played at his burial. They are now together again❤
A masterful job of editing video from one song to audio of another.

And this was the B side of the record until DJ's picked it up and started to play it.
This song will always be one of my favorite Donnie Brooks songs from the old days. But they were the good old days like that.
Wow...what a tender, beautiful song. The Blossoms...what voices! Thank you for posting this. I was fortunate to find an adult standards station in Peoria, IL, (WOAM) that plays many of these forgotten gems.
Walter Becker and Donald Fagen ( founders of Steely Dan) were in this backup band
