I learned Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan in the Philippines in the 1980s earning my first dan in 1988. My instructor taught the Kihon katas 1-4 as the first katas in Shorin-Ryu. I come back to the USA and the Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan instructor says no, they teach Fukyugata kata 1 thru 3. Who is right? This has always bugged me all these years. I still don't practice the Fukyugata kata, LOL.

MOST SAI VIDEOS CONCENTRATE ON SAI BASICS i.e. THE FLIPS. THE FLIPS IS IMPORTANT WHEN U WANT TO TURN A DEFENSE INTO AN ATTACK OR VICE VERSA. BUT SOME EASTERN MARTIAL , WHEN THEY ARE IN COMBAT MODE THEY DON'T FLIP. THEY USE THE FULL STRUCTURE OF SAI OR TEKPI, EITHER TO LOCK WEAPONS, BREAKING OPPONENTS STRENGTH BY MAIMED. HANDS & LEGS, OR INFLICS HARM TO THE EYES.

Way late, but must say thank you for sharing your Sai technique. I've always admired the sai but my Tao Sifu never taught us the sai , understandably, given he taught us his lineage of Northern Shaolin. He's retired now and I've tried to branch out in other kobudo from rattan staff and Tai Chi sword. Do you recommend the sai? Thank you. p.s.: what lineage of Karate are you offering on your channel ?

I have seen there are also practice "training Sais" (same size, same shape). Do you think I could begin with practice Sais? Or do you think their difference in weight will just be too different?

Ummm, can you actually walk us through the technique instead of demonstrating. Just saying "flip, out, in, vertical..." Great! But how? What's the ideal finger placement for holding sai in the first place, what fingers move and how do they move, can you have fingers on the outside/front of the hilt opposite of the handle? Like this guy. th-cam.com/video/XAuKDnQ9Q00/w-d-xo.html
